  1. Wonder if Seinfeld ever drove it - anywhere
  2. Is that a real 917 in the background?
  3. My attitude as a business man and human being is this - If you've been convicted of fraud I won't believe a SINGLE WORD you say! I'm just surprised that more don't have the same attitude. However, I'm certain that a sucker is indeed born every minute.
  4. "Guild" can't even stand in Paul Taylor's shadow!
  5. Anything connected to the "Guild" MUST be taken with a large grain of salt!
  6. Glad to see Paul Taylor finally getting some recognition, it was his 240. New owner should get in touch w/me for a lot more info than indicated
  7. OK HS30-H you were indeed right. Also found some Witworth tools from my days servicing Rollers for the local club. Nice picture of Len's green car on my web site @ zzxdatsun.com. GAV240Z - when I made my comment about Gold Medallion Z cars I was referring to the scarcity of the NOS parts that one would need to be in the running for that trophy/award.
  8. Good morning HS30-H. While I understand and respect the Japanese Industrial Standards as a member of the SAE I'm expected, no required, to reflect the prejudices of that organization. Do you know Len W? He lives near Tunbridge Wells. Currently he drives a red left hand drive 240. Cheers
  9. I'd find it hard to believe that this poor chap had less than 80K invested in this 240. Perhaps he had to sell for any number of reasons. My romantic side would like to think it had to do with a woman/man. However, all of those chimers who were oooohhhhing and aaaahhhhing over this restoration and planning to use it as a model for their effort are and will be off by a country mile. I didn't spend too much time looking it over but a lot of his mistakes just jumped off the page at me. 1 - Lifting eyes should be clear not yellow 2 - The rule of thumb is that bolts with hex and Phillips heads are clear not yellow, ditto for machine screws. 3 - Too much use of yellow assembly marks. Not every suspension fastener got one. 4 - His yellow plating is flat and dull. I've had to reject my share of plating loads for this problem and then wait and wait for the plater to make things whole. That's the price one sometimes has to pay. 5 - Original, now brown, electrical connector housings. Damn, he had to remove the 5 wire connector for the wiper motor to fit my firewall grommet but what did he do - reinstalled the original! 6 - No detailing of the engine compartment wiring harness. 7 - Old original nasty looking rear window defrost connectors. Now for the good news 1 - He used my all but perfect engine paint and as per my instructions painted the right motor mount bracket satin black. Can't remember if the pan was satin black with yellow fasteners as it should be. An interesting detail that has intrigued me for a long time. Early cars, at lease until about 5-6 /71 perhaps a bit later, secured the heater and blower assys to the firewall using 6mm bolts - hex and Phillips head so they should be clear - with captive lock washers. After about that date or so they added non captive flats. My opinion about the future of Gold Medallion 240s. There will be almost none, if any, from here out. That's enough.
  10. He was a service customer about 100 years ago! Even got a new dash.
  11. The market is soft, very soft. Let's see where the bidding falls on the blue with white 240 currently on BAT. Sorry but nothing to do with your astute observation Zed Head
  12. The last 3 Lightweight Fords recently offered on BAT failed to meet reserve. Also, the bidding was less than vigorous for these rare, and in my view very cool, cars. Indeed the market has softened.
  13. View Advert Datsun/Nissan factory publications for sale After more than 53 years of service to the Z car world I closed my shop in Jan. I have more than 41 factory service manuals and year end service bulletin compilation manuals that I would like to sell. Thank you, Mike Advertiser zspert Date 06/30/2024 Price $300 Category Parts for Sale
  14. Interesting to note - The deck lid vent system used in the early Zs is the same system used in the 510 wagon, a rather complex, multi part, system.
  15. Here we go again, "series 1 series 2" . What is the production date? I promise this will be my last comment on this subject.
  16. What isn't mentioned in these recent observations is that the complete induction system - from the cylinder head out - was changed for the 73 model year. The carbs are one component of the complete system.
  17. Isn't there a thread on the Flat Top induction system? I seem to remember writing a bit about my experiences as a Datsun dealer mechanic during that time.

ZED2, you don't need to worry about the accuracy of Jay's hoses as they have appeared on all of the Gold Medallion winners I've been involved with. PS I have NOS Datsun windshield and NOS Datsun back light gaskets for 520/521 trucks for sale.
  19. DC871F - your 1/71 tells this tired old Datsun Mechanic - no, not a "tech" - all he needs to know for ID purposes.
  20. I'm going to downshift to 2nd here - heel and toe of course. I was taught, by employees of Datsun US and several parts mgrs, to refer to all MODELS of their products by the production date. Vins only came into play in a VERY FEW ISOLATED cases. When I get a call from a Z owner who starts the conversation by calling his baby a Series 1.75 I cut him or her off and ask for the PD, just as I was taught by the persons already mentioned.
  21. Having graduated from several Datsun service schools in the 70s when I was a dealer mechanic I can say with confidence that we students were instructed to refer to all Datsuns of that era by the production dates. This "series 1" etc. is the product of the internet age and not the Nissan Motor Co. Ltd.

They all come from JDM. Jay is the only one to go to the expense and bother to reproduce cloth braded coolant, booster and valve cover breather hoses.
  23. Excellent observations Paul. I'm in complete agreement.
  24. You park it way out but when you return there's almost always another car, usually a beater, parked next to you!!!
  25. Personal experience comment on ZAPS. In 1977 I was working as a mechanic at the DC Datsun franchise. Originally a Ford dealership built in the 50s or so. The east side of the shop had an almost wall of windows with tons of natural light. The west side was built into a hill so in the summer there was a modest amount of natural cooling. We were always busy. We got 1 ZAPS car which just sat on the showroom floor. Finally the GM got the bright idea to give it to the service manager to use as his demo which allowed it to be seen around town. Finally after about 4 weeks it sold. When we later got our single Black Pearl car it was on the showroom floor for no more than 2 weeks before it was snatched up. My new Service Manager
