Maybe a bastard 70 or PO repair
I would talk to Carl Beck about your car before I did anything. Find out which is correct, the body or the hatch. Have you taken off the interior to look at the inside of the body?

Fender to Sugar Scoop Packing
Yes, the part is NLA and strip caulk is the way to go. Installed, nothing shows. The packing just keeps the fender and scoop from rattling.

I see you are following the photos, Rob. I am told that the paint color should be darker if not black. I'm also told that the engine block color is supposed to be silver. Notice the hose clamps? I was thinking of doing my valve cover and air box in this color.

Considering buying #237 - Need Advice
The engine bay ID tag is screwed on. Don't worry about the high engine serial number. 26th's engine number (2338) is higher that 27th's. Regardless of the emission hardware fitted to the early cars, the intake manifold balance tube in the photograph is an emission balance tube and not something mistakenly identified as a "european balance tube". There is no such thing as a european balance tube. The cars are Japanese. It may or may not have a fuel recovery system. 26th and 27th do not. In this game, when you find something you want, don't dabble around thinking about it. Someone will beat you to the purchase. And whoever said 27th was pretty rough; thank you for the compliment. She is much worse.

From looking at the photos, that is NOT a european balance tube. Whatever a "european" balance tube is.

Toyota 50th celebration website....
I disagree. Carlos rescued Nissan from near death and there is no reason to criticize a profit orientation. Nissan is about to introduce a limited production world class sports car. The new Z has increased horse power. Nissan owns current JGTC champoinships in a Z. Their styling studios are producing cutting edge stuff. I think they are spending plenty of money. We are looking at a healthy company and hurray for that.

Toyota 50th celebration website....
Gnosez, I was there for the "retrun-on-investment" speach. That guy is no longer with Nissan BTW. What surprised me most was that the ZCCA took it lying down and didn't tar-n-feather the guy and throw him out on the street. As you pointed out, the parking lot was packed with ROI. I thought the guy had a lot of gall. He also made a comment about how "race on Sunday - sell on Monday" didn't work. Excuse me? What I thought was too bad was that no one from the ZCCA challenged the guy.

Datsun Dealership Signs!
The little Datsun emblems are embossed in acrylic. I'm certain the acrylic was white when new. It is quite yellowed. The original sign was double sided - probably in a metal frame. Both sides were on eBay abour four years ago in two seperate auctions. The first auction went to the moon and I got the second almost unnoticed. I built a teak frame for it and put a lamp in it. The baby hangs in my shop.

TERRIBLE NEWS! ... Nis-san Dream Car Ga-rage Crushed?
I know a few of the Zs were sold to private collections. I documented another couple of Vintage Zs when the deal came down. New owners will mean that the cars are cared for. With luck, they will appear at various shows around the country. I know guys with multiple car collections and one can imagine how difficult it would be to transport the "collection" around. A lot of these cars are in the South and with luck, we will get to see a bunch of them at the national convention in Daytona.

TERRIBLE NEWS! ... Nis-san Dream Car Ga-rage Crushed?
I have a copy of the Pess Release package for the Dream Garage ad campaign. Some of it is Mr. K autographed. The kit includes a VHS of all the TV spots for the campaign. Here is a little history about it. “Nissan’s Rich Heritage and Innovation Renders New Brand Marketing Campaign†announced a $200 million national advertising campaign designed to rekindle consumer brand identity and loyalty in August 1996. The TBWA Chiat/Day North America ad agency conceived strategy was known as the Dream Garage Campaign. The television commercial milestone “Dream Garage†appeared during the closing ceremonies of the Atlanta Olympic Games August 4, 1996. By November, Nissan U.S.A. was initiating the Z-Store program including the Vintage Z. Three 30 second television spots introduced the campaign and featured no voice-overs, no tagline, and no new Nissan cars! Wholly unlike traditional car advertising. The dreamlike commercials were prepared from a driver’s perspective featuring a mystical Japanese man who makes magical things happen and then reminds us to “Smileâ€, “Have Fun,†and “Drive Happyâ€. The culmination “Dream Garage†commercial features the symbolic Mr. Katayama wearing a Datsun cap and with a small dog reminding us, “Life is a Journey. Enjoy the Rideâ€. The commercial was scored by Danny Elfmann, music composer for Batman and Edward Scissorhands, and directed by Kinka Usher of Smillie films. The commercial intended to embrace the magical spirit of Mr. Katayama and his keen understanding of the emotional appeal and personal expression that the automobile represents in America. He represented the temporal embodiment of the car company’s heritage, joyful spirit and love of cars.

260z in Japan?
Nice, interesting thread. Thanks. I'm listening. Have we an example of re-possesed / re-stamped car?

What do you think?
As long as we are on the foot rest tangent, I'll post a picture of the specimen I have to work with. To the best of my knowledge, the original finsh was gloss or semi-gloss black with at ridged rubber sleeve on the foor bar. AMCO accessories sold a chrome version years ago. The "rest" bolts through the floor and the reinforcements Alan described. My example arrived with the indication that the carpeting placed over the mounting plate, but I need to verify that.
-
What do you think?
No, I wasn't certain what I was going to do to strengthen the floor, Alan. Probably a large diameter flat washer. Please keep my name on the foot rest. There is talk of a Euro visit in June and I may get the chance to visit you and Len. Thanks for thinking of me. Chris
-
What do you think?
Well put, Alan. So that's the car, Mont? Thanks for trying. Yes, I am looking for a foot rest. I actually have one, but it is more of a foot rust than usable.

I confirm what Carl Beck and Zulaytr posted. Actually, I'm crushed that I didn't get one of the cars!
