    Internal rivets

I'm sure this method has been used before, but this is the first time I've removed these rivets. Looks like whoever removed this rivet lost the center, so they replaced it with a piece of wire. possibly 18 gauge pretty cool. When I removed the panel I found the plastic centers they lost years ago.

Pretty big day today 70 240Z

I removed the gas tank to have it cleaned. Will a radiator shop clean this for me? Possibly steam clean it? Now I have a bunch of questions. In preparation for starting the engine, I want to do the following before starting. 1. Compression test - is Turing the engine over by hand a valid compression test? I need to get a good gauge, any recommendation 2. I need to drain the oil, what is the best oil to use? Which filter 3. Which spark plugs? Old ones are champion RNllYC 4. Should I change the points, or just go for it? 5. Where can I get a couple straps that secure the fuel tank? Did I forget anything? The car has been setting with ATF in the cylindears for a few days. It turned over easily by hand
  3. I've been looking for a project. I've been mostly looking at 4x4 old truck stuff. The other day a friend of mine asked me to help him move a 1984 veet that he just bought for $500. When we got there he mentioned there was a 240z there that the guy was also selling. I looked at the z took a few pictures and today the car is sitting in my garage. I had no idea my next project car was going to be a z car. I've always loved these cars. I was born in 1960, so the 1970 is just about the time I was starting to see and feel things. This car was one of my first loves. I've never drove one. This will be the first z I've ever driven. The man that owned it before me loved it. He drove it for years and then bought the 1984 vet and quit driving the z. It's been sitting covered for 15 years in his garage. He passed away and his son wanted the car gone. No problem. THe son also turned out to be somebody that recognized me from years ago. Our paths have passed in the past. I got in touch with Carl Beck. I knew very little about the car with the exception of how I fell in love with the car years ago. Carl provided me with enough information for me to make the decision to invest the $3500 in the car the seller was asking. The above photo is in my shop today. Check out all the registration year stickers . The rear brakes are locked up. It will roll, but not very easily. I'm going to get some atf and spray in their to see if the will release. I'm also going to spray the atf in the cylinders and let it set for a few days.

What should I use to fasten these bumpers back on ?
  5. I need to replace all the hoses in my 1970 240Z. Has anybody got a quick order guide, or something like that, that will help me get this done. Maybe even possibly something like buy a roll of three hose sizes?

I've been looking for a project

Thank you. I've got it in my shop by the door with a fan blowing the fumes out the door. It will have lots of time to cure.

I've been looking for a project

I got my tank back today. I asked them not to paint it, but they painted it. I was going to por15 it. Now I have just one vent, facing the right way. I also had them line, that's the picture of the inside. I've never seen this done before. I really wanted to do the por on it, and now I need to clean it up. I was thinking about taking it to a place that does powder coating, and having it sand blasted and then doing the POR on it. should I just have it powder coated. Ideas?

    Love the z

I’m having a blast with this Z. I think it’s too early to start looking for another one. Is there a cool Datsun truck around 1970 that would pair nice with the 70 240Z? Just an idea

What’s this? I’m considering having the radiator flushed, should I have this one done also? Should I put it back in service ?

    Engine compartment hoses

I was out working on my carbs and I thought of this picture. How did you get your engine so clean looking. I know I cold polish it, but I don't think that would look good. This is a great looking engine. Did you make that air cleaner ?

I've been looking for a project

According to this https://web.archive.org/web/20131128034951/http://www.editgrid.com/user/mlwilliams/Z_Car_Registry The car was made in 1970, but is a registered 1971. I found other sources like this that lead me to believe the same thing. I'm not going to take the time to re-register it as 71

I've been looking for a project

It looks to me from searching vins on this site that H L S 3 0 - 0 8 9 0 6 is a 1971. Mine being 0987 would also make it a 71. The fact that the door plate is gone, and the oldest title has it as a 71, makes me believe that the guy I bought it from did something to change the title to 70. I was pretty happy with the fact that it's a 70. I know it's still a good deal, but there was a little pride in knowing I had a 70. Weird how I got there, especially when i knew nothing about Z's until I got this car. I always liked the looks, but never got into them. Is there any benefit to the changing of the year from 71 to 70?

I've been looking for a project

I'm a little confused about the year of the car. The title in 1982 says it's 1971. The most current title says it's a 1970. The vin is the same on all the titles it's hls3008987. What is the actual year?

I've been looking for a project

Believe it or not, I just checked in the glove box. First time. All the receipts and records for the car since 1982, when it was bought by the family I bought it from. They bought it in 1982, ever mile is documented since 1982. Every drive, and every mile documented in the same type of note pad I use. And get this, he bought it from a lady that lived on the same street I use to live on in Sacramento. As a matter of fact, it may be the same complex because it's a short street, and if I recall there is only one apartment complex and a cemetery.
