  1. White smoke? Black smoke? Blue smoke? might denote water, rich mixture, oil, respectively. More info? What year car? Any mods? Carb? Fuel Injection?......
  2. How about seat belts? Do you have an entire set? Are they lever release or pushbutton, and what is the condition if you have them? If they are lever release, I'd love to have them if they are in decent condition. Thanks.
  3. Looks very like the HVAC cluster controls on my US spec '78 280Z. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture here at work.
  4. I must admit, although I am very sorry for St. Stephen, my "chick" is definately not "effed", and we have been very happy for the past 26 years of being together, almost 19 of which were married years (she was only 14 when we started dating!) I fully expect that there are plenty of threads on other (totally unknown to me) sites with titles like "guys are effed". Relationships can be hosed from either side.
  5. I wish I could. That car is LONG gone, and I've never come across a picture that I took of it. Long before digital cameras, I'm afraid, and I guess I never decided to spend film on it. It's a bummer, but what can you do...
  6. Think about words that start with the letter "eff" (pronounce it), and end in "ed".
  7. My '71 240Z that I had when I was 18 (a "couple" of years ago :cross-eye ) had a stripe just like yours, except I split it down the middle with about a 1/8" separation. aRCH-Z would have liked it too - it was a fairly dark metallic blue and the stripe was white!

My last shipment from midwestz could have probably gone through a nuclear blast and survived! Anything you buy from Chloe will arrive in good condition!
  9. Referring to the stuff at z car creations . Looking at the prospect of drilling out a number of rusted/broken body screws, I'm considering using stainless for the non-mechanical (i.e., not suspension or internal engine) portions of the car, especially body panel stuff. Problem: while z car creations has apparently gone to a lot of trouble to match the bolt threads and lengths (which they really have to), the bolt heads are not the same size as stock. They are still metric, but the guy says that the are usually "one or two sizes larger than stock". Given that I won't ever get to a 100 percent stock car (the car has headers, and I'll probably keep that and I intend to use a 5 speed to replace the poor-condition 4-speed in the car), what are your opinions on changing the bolt head sizes for literally hundreds of bolts on the car, to get the benefits of no corrosion on the bolts themselves?

That's all mine were held on with. They were not original, but they were old enough that they just pulled right off the adhesive.
  11. Those VB panels are metal cut and fit. They are generally tabco panels. The quality is average - you'll probably need to do some shaping on the panel to get it to fit. I have two of the panels, but haven't gotten to the the place where I need to put them on. Still working on all the rust that was underneath them . You might want to try tabco themselves. I bought inner rear fender wells from them for $20 less apiece than getting them through VB, and they are really the same part. Note that ordering through their website is painful. I called their 800 number, and they were appreciative :classic: .
  12. ojerryo, where are you in IL? I'm downstate in Champaign. There aren't many of us here in IL that I've found yet.
  13. :devious: :devious: ROFL HA HA HA HA HA (manical laughter!) LOL :devious: :devious:

Here's the last one that shows anything different. Good luck.

Here's the seals near the left hinge. The hinge had squashed the seal a bit, so I am not totaly convinced it is installed correctly.
  16. mdbrandy replied to texasz's topic in Body & Paint
I haven't gotten in to seals yet (welding comes first ), but I'll try to find a few pics of the hatch and seal area before I pulled it all apart. If I understand, the original seals are 3 piece, but some of the replacements are two piece - how many pieces do you have?
  17. What do we have here - VIN envy? Where SMALLER is better?!
  18. Already been south. Lived in Aiken, SC for 5 years. Too hot and humid down there. I also spent 7 years in Los Angeles, but I had a Z then! Sold it when I left. Family stuff. Had to keep the station wagon. :( :disappoin :disappoin . I don't want to live in LA again, but somewhere in CA looking good!
  19. Wouldn't have to - you could drive it there under it's own power! Now, let's have no anti-ZX snobbery here. I went to see it because it was one of the only Z's in the area being advertised. And as long as I have my 240Z to dream of... Bottom line is I'm keeping it in mind, but I really don't want it very badly. I think they're asking WAY too much for it, but I thought I'd get some opinions. I looked at the e-bay adds too. They, however, had done the same, and had come up with some examples that either had something special about them (that was not apparent to me), or the people that had bid large amounts of money on them were crazy. Probably the latter. Kelly blue-book on the car is somewhere around $2300. And that's in "excellent condition" with no rust. Oh, that's actually for an '83. KBB only goes back 20 years .
  20. Interior is great. Everything looks really good. And yes, it's an automatic. Rats. So, just for grins, if any of you out there that know ZX's owned this car and wanted to sell it, what would you ask for it? Engine seems to run well and looks OK. Trans kicked down and pulled OK. Car handled fairly well, if way softer than I am used to. Might need new shocks. Thanks.
  21. And both doglegs are really ugly. Fiberglass hacked repairs.
  22. Then you see the big one. Hole in the drivers floorboard under the pedals. Frame looks good, passenger side and firewall and battery tray look good. But not this.
  23. But then you start to look closer and see all the places that the "older" gentleman had fiberglassed over rust and thought he was doing the car a favor. Mostly small areas like near the front side-lights.
  24. Hey. I looked at going over to the dark side today. 1982 280ZX with 59,000 original miles. 20 miles from my house here in central IL. Owned by an older couple since they bought it new in 1982. All original, supposedly garage kept. So, it looks really nice from 20 feet.

I believe I've decided to pass. Two reasons: the floor pan/frame work looks to be of low quality - those rails are only tack welded every now and again to the pans. Who knows what other crappy work was done on them. Also, it appears from what the guy says that there is a bondo job on the rear rockers. He only had the car a year, so it may have other body work too. 2nd reason, is that I've realized that I may already have another Z sitting in my garage. I have a 280 that I've been calling a parts car, but the only real things wrong with it are floorboard holes, needs a new muffler, and rear brakes. I had written it off as a loss due to the floorboard and drivers side frame, back when I didn't have any welding gear, and wasn't intending to get any. I think I'm going to consider welding in enough sheet metal to make it safe, fixing the exhaust and brakes, and driving it until I need the parts - undoubtedly 2 years or so! I'll have to go out and look at it again to make sure, but from what I remember, it should be doable. Then I can drive that one into the ground for only a few hundred dollars! Thanks for the opinions. You guys are great!
