  1. it shuts off as if i turned off the key, im going to mess around with it some more with ZBabe's suggesstions thanks
  2. when im driving around sometimes the car will just turn off, and it wont start back up. I took it to my mechanic and the connector on the computer for my 76 280z was loose and then the car started right back up. after 1 day of driving around the car has the "emergency brake" indicator light always on and the car continues to turn off at certain times, both in stop and go and on the freeway. But this time the car will start right back up again and i can continue driving until it shuts itself off. Anyone had this before? Thanks
  3. I get up in the morning and my 76 280z starts right up, if I let it idle too long it will stall out. I will drive it for a little bit (under 5 minutes) and turn it off and when I try to start it up it wont start. The few times it does start it will idle at 500 rpm and with any pressure on the gas peddle lots of grey smoke comes puring out the back. But, if i let it sit for a while (7 hours today and yesterday) it will start up again no problem. Any one seen anything like this?

  7. just keep in mind that you have to have that splice (a green wire for me) in with the power connector for the blower motor, that spliced wire connects to the air compressor and turns it on. my z hasn't felt better inside since i got it! (but then again i have only had it for 6 months now)
  8. Went and got my new blower motor today from a junkyard nearby. Pulled it from a 88 civic crx, cost me $25. Took it home and got to work. The easiest way to gain access to your blower motor is to remove the glovebox and the lower trim piece of the passenger side. The blower motor is fastened by 3 screws and the housing is fastened by 4 10mm hex/phillips screws, 2 are at the front of the cabin and 2 are above (they are pretty easy to find). The best way to change out the blower is to drop the housing and all, then remove the motor. AS it so happens the squirrel fan from the crx was a little too big for the housing, nothing a jig saw wouldn't fix quick. I had to take off a few mm around the hole. The fan fit in and and bolts were perfect. Even the power connector to the new motor was the same as the Datsun one! After putting everything back together (make sure the blower housing still fits up to the vents) and testing the system I was impressed. The Honda blower fan was much more powerful than the Datsun one. With the driver seat all the way back I could actually feel the air hitting me, before it was about 8 inches shy of that mark. So now I can say I have a A/C system that runs powerful, quiet, and cold!
  9. just got my system retrofitted today, its blows pretty cold but its is using a Sand (?) compressor, its is the one found in volvos, mazdas and some other cars. the blower fan in the z is absolute crap and im going on a hunt tomorrow for a 88 civic fan. i'll get back when my project is done
  10. i've got a 76 280 with an after market compressor that im getting refilled this week. I just got a new fitting and I'm re-routing the hose and then getting the system retrofitted with the new r134 (not sure on the number) freon. I'm going to have it completed by the end of the week and i can get back to you on how cold, how long it takes to cool the cabin and what type of compressor it is. I like in houston, tx and its not much cooler down here, especially with the black interior...
  11. in texas there is a grandfather clause that says if your car is over 25 years old you only have to have a safety check for your inspection. They check the horn, lights, blinkers, wipers, and some other small stuff. It normally costs $12.50.
  12. I was wondering how hard it would be and what I would need to add turbo to my 280z. Do i just need new headers and manifold? And has anyone done this or know of a website that offers a guide of some sort? Thanks
  13. that web server kind of sucks, so just refresh the page and it will show, i got me some blue leds, 390 ohm resistors and a variable resistor, so i'll have some pics up as early as tomorrow
  14. I just made a really easy to understand guide on LEDs and how to know which resistors to get, I am going to actually do this to my gauge and have pictures and details on the best way to install the lights in your gauges but I made this to help people to easily understand what to do with wiring. I'm off to get some bright LEDs and a variable resistor or 2 to actually wire this up and take pictures. But until then here is what i have: Really Really Basic Car LED Guide
  15. you can dim the lights, you just have to add in a variable resistor
  16. using a variable resistor would be easy to do, you would just have to remove the dimmer switch already on the Z and put a variable resistor where the power to the lights go, but you would still have to add resistors to each LED for best performance. The positive lead of the led (the long one) is connected to power and the negative (short one) to ground, i'm going out of town this weekend but look for a basic guide sometime around wednesday or thursday of next week, unless someone beats me to the chase. and for resistor values, its all based on the amperage of the led
  17. With led's be wary or wiring, each LED needs to have its own resistor for best results, and parallel wiring is optimal. 12v is going to be your power supply and V(volts)=I(amps, indicated on teh LED package)R(resistance- your resistor), So for each resistor you will use that equation, but dont burn out the led. Ground can be shared in parallel but positive cant, i'm going to do this to one of my gauges i have lying around in the next few days since school is out today (i took my physics final today (hence the forulas)), but anywho im going to do this to my gauge cause im tired or the dull light and i'll make a guide this is a parallel circuit with resistors in a circle (just to give you an idea). give me a week or so and i'll have a guide with pics
  18. have to find the wires for yourself, its pretty easy though, just get a circuit tester and look for: steady (car off) that goes to memory, a 12v (car on) thats to the main power, speakers, antenna should be easy, power antenna i dont know though, but its pretty straightforward
  19. got some screenshots from the Z parts of the trailer
  20. I saw this movie several times and it weel-deserved the oscar. Moore does a great job critiquing americans and their love for guns. He goes from the youngest school shooting (in the US) at age 6 to what happened at columbine, to the oklahoma city bombing, to US kills during wars... He doesn't just talk about guns, he analysizes how the US culture is one of guns and how much of it is driven by the fear of other people. It goes on and on. Just watch the movie and you'll understand, also he made "Roger and Me" and "The Big One" 2 other great movies
  21. Just went and saw a flick and in the previews of "Bruce Almighty" Jim Carry (sp?) is driving a silver 70's Z. I couldn't tell the year because it was a quick look, But the question is: What movies have you seen Z cars in?
  22. My car didn't have the same problem but checking the Air Flow meter might not be a bad idea.
  23. My drivers door wont lock with the key from the outside anymore, the key seems to hit the limit before it can successfully lock the door, there is no problem unlocking it afterwards though. Anyone had this problem before? Or know a way I can fix it?
