240Z on ebay.au in Melbourne
It's funny how the zed prices are going up, or at least the prices being put on them are going up. A few years ago, $10000 would score you an imaculate restored example. It seems any fairly neat example will set you back at least 10k these days.

Check out this 2+2 that's just been listed on eBay. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=2030&item=4532093252&rd=1 Looks pretty damn neat. I'd guess it will end up selling for a pretty decent amount.

VQ30 DET into 1974 260z
That's a VH45, from a Q45. ;-) Very cool! Any more info on the car?

VQ30 DET into 1974 260z
Just got some rough measurements of the VG30DETT Depth = 600mm (with plenum) Width = 680mm (without ex manifolds) Height = 700mm (with plenum) That puts the VQ as being shorter, narrower, but taller.

Thanks Robert. Interesting sump design......haven't seen anything quite like it before. Anyhow, by the looks it'll suit the sunny cross member quite well.

Australians FREE/Cheap Z PARTS
Yeah but just think how stupid the falcodore drivers look after getting chopped by a white hairdresser spec charade.

Hey mick... ask your mate if he wants to race another 1L car? Say....my mates 1L 3 banger turbo charade. Now, when's the next street meet on....

VQ30 DET into 1974 260z
The VQ is effectively the next generation of the VG. Unlike the VG, it uses an alloy block making it much lighter, and from what I hear it's also a bit more compact. We have a VG30DETT sitting on a stand at a mates house, so I'll have to measure that up next time I'm around there. We had a great thread on another forum I frequent about this engine, had heaps of great tech info on it but unfortunatly that's all gone.

VQ30 DET into 1974 260z
Good stuff Rob! I'll be very very keen to see how you go with this. I have a couple more questions for you. What's the sump position, I can't quite see it in any of the photos? Also, roughly how much taller is the engine with the inlet manifold on? How far back does it sit from the engine? I've just been outside with your measurements and it appears one (VQ25DE) will fit in the little sunny without too much trouble. I'm happy bout that! Keep us updated on your progress! Justin

RB30 + Insurance ?
With Shannons and pretty much any other I know of, yes. With Shannons you insure your car as either stock, or modified. If it's modified they don't care what you do (including engine swaps) provided it's legal and you tell them what you've done.

RB30 + Insurance ?
Off the top of my head I thought the age cut off for shannons was 20. Realistically, there's some time and money in doing an RB swap, especially if you can't do it all yourself. You'll probably be 20 by the time it's done. Anyway, if you did make the age cut, shannons would be the go for sure. My zed is currently insured with them for 5k, as a modified car, I'm rating one and it's $280/yr full comp. Back when I was rating 2 it was $350. Pretty damn good IMO.

What I did on the weekend
Thanks Robert. Just had a look at the pics.....I always knew the engine was compact, but not that compact! Is there any chance you would be able to measure the engine dimensions (minus turbo and plumbing etc) for me (if you don't already know them that is)? I'm curious as another swap I'm seriously considering is a VQ25DE into my little datsun sunny. While I'm at it, do you know the weight at all? I've had a lot of trouble finding reliable info on these motors so far. Thanks again, Justin

RP975: Very cool conversion you're doing (VQ) on your zed. I've also been looking into exactly the same swap for some time now. You have any photos or info on the swap on the net anywhere? I'd be really interested to see exactly how you've gone about the swap. One thing I'd heard is that the turbo setup will foul on the shock tower, just wondering if that's true? What gearbox have you used? I'll be very interested to hear from you and I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions for you later.

How's this for a carby set up??

Abolishment of the 15 year rule
Well then they'd by taking their wings off with good reason. Wing = drag = slower time. For most street cars they wont go fast enough to require the stability provided by a wing. As a good example my mate garys GT-R gains something like 3mph by removing the stock GT-R wing.

You need eye surgery boy! :devious: One moment you're saying the s14 has an ugly rear end.....then next thing you're saying you wanna put a spoiler on an s15! IMO the s14 rear end looks quite nice, but especially with no spoiler. s15 also looks better without.

Abolishment of the 15 year rule
Lach: Mick: That's exactly what they did. It's like just about every limited edition car you buy these days....all cosmetic sh*t and no extra performance.
-
Abolishment of the 15 year rule
Well that's what I mean....it's all cosmetic really. You can buy stacker if you want one....and a sunroof just makes you a wannabe hairdresser. The spec S will be faster (lighter) and cheaper. QED
-
Abolishment of the 15 year rule
Insurance might be cheaper on the s15.....you'd have to check. Mind you, the GT s15 was all cosmetic upgrades....you might as well buy a early manual spec S. That's going to be the best bang for your buck.
-
Abolishment of the 15 year rule
Cosmo would be ok if that's the case, but again like the GT-R, you'd want to find a good unmolested example and even then, make sure you have money to spare in case something does fcuk up.
-
Abolishment of the 15 year rule
Haha....you couldn't afford fuel for the cosmo. I have a mate that is also considering one....nice car.
