Interesting Z...or what once was one
Here's an interesting car on eBay...It was once a Z but who knows what it is now. Pretty nice for what it is though. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2487766191&category=6187

This Z was stored in a chicken coop since 1987
I think in the thread on hybrid he said that his reserve is $6500. I posted saying that I thought that this may be an unreasonable price considering that it's not even running! :surprised We'll see what happens when all the last minute snipping occurs and the auction is over...but I still don't think that the reserve will be met. I also told him that he may want to post it in Autotrader's Collector Trader section as those cars are listed at top dollar, but I seriously doubt that he will since he's chomopin' at the bit to do his car. I just hope that someone out there is willing to buy this for his ransom. I offered an even trade for a straight rust free NM car I recently acquired but no reply as of yet. Hell, mine even runs and drives well!!

Just picked up 73 240z. Should I rebuild the L24 or swap to something else???
My vote is to stick with the L6 that's in the car and just do some work on it. Header, well tuned carbs (keep the SUs), maybe a cam, electronic ignition, etc. This will help keep your costs down and also should keep you in a reasonable class like stock or something close to it depending upon what work you do on the engine.

For Trade: R200 for R180
Tourniqet, I'm curious what you found that diff in? Based upon this thread this diff should be an R200 not an R180 so if you located this ratio in an R180 I'm sure many of us would be interested what it came from (specific year/model car/truck).

porting round head to square?
Get yourself an N42 instead, it's identical to the N47 except it already has the square ports.

Hood wont close
I have a problem with my hood also but a different one. I can close it all the way quite easily but almost every time I get out onto the highway (sometimes not even 40MPH) it will pop open to the safte latch. I have checked the catch pin on the hood and tried adjusting it a couple times with no luck. I have also made sure that the hood release pull handle is pushed all the way back in and this does not make any difference. Any thoughts on this problem?

Headlight Bucket Removal
Ok, I have caused a bit of confusion due to my lack of knowledge. I have heard the same part referred to as headlight buckets, fender extensions, and the sugar scoop. I now have a little more information than when I started this thread as far as naming goes. Now back to the problem at hand... I have gotten up there with a flashlight and now see what you are all talking about. I was thinking that the nuts were welded to the part like most of the others and that the bolt must be removed from the front. I now see that the bolt is a stud which is welded to the sugar scoop and the nut is what must be removed; the opposite of what I was thinking. :stupid: Thank you all for the assistance! I will be back to working on this this evening if it doesn't rain.

Is This For Real?

Progressive & Geico Suck
I couldn't agree with you more...but that is just the way it is.

Pads recommendations for Toyota 4x4 calipers?
I have a 4Runner and get my performance parts for it from Performance Products, I know that they cary performance pads so you may want to check them out.

Progressive & Geico Suck
Having worked for Progressive for many years that's crap. They will insure anything and anyone (for a price), and that's the honest truth. What is likely happening is that the computer systems can only accurately decipher a 17 digit VIN which started in '80 or '81 and this is why you are unable to get a quote online with either company. Do it the old fashon way, pick up the phone. I know that when I worked there I had VIN books that went back to the '50s and would have to dust them off when someone wanted a car of that vintage insured because the computer could not determine what the car was since the VIN was less than 17 digits...and we had TONS of people still driving '70s models. FYI: I worked there from '92-98.

Headlight Bucket Removal
I am trying to remove the fender from my car and can not determine how to remove the headlight bucket. It seems as though there are 3-4 screws/bolts which hold it to the fender but I can not see the heads on them and when I feel them with my fingers then do not seem to have a place for a screwdriver nor a hex head for a wrench, they feel like the edges are perfectly round and the top is completely flat. So the obvious question is how do I remove it???

Is This For Real?
No sweat man, there are many people who poke fun at Texan's. I'm not even originally from here but have lived in TX for 23+ years now. I just couldn't let that comment slide by though.

Is This For Real?
What's THAT supposed to mean? :devious:

LD28 Crank Question
Does nobody know?
-
What should i replace while the engine is out?
For mine I plan on doing POR-15 on the engine bay while the engine is out. This will eliminate any future rust issues in there...especially the battery tray which already has some surface rust.

What should i replace while the engine is out?
Just get a Dremel and fix that problem!!

LD28 Crank Question
Is there a casting code or something on the LD28 crank to identify it? If not how can one tell the LD28 crank from just an L28 crank?

This Z was stored in a chicken coop since 1987
ls1240z, Seriously, I do believe that you should end all the auctions put the interior back in the car and sell the whole thing as it sits. I suspect that it doesn't run since it sat for so long but that's minor work for a car in this condition. I have mixed feelings about moding these cars...on the one hand it is your car and you should enjoy it, but on the other hand they are more valuable as a classic (a classic is stock). I have a couple Zs at the moment and the one I'm keeping I'm customizing but it has already been hacked, the other was near stock when I got it and has been returned to stock and is about to be sold. My vote for you is to replace the interior sell it, make a huge profit and get one that has already been molested for you V8 swap. You will be better off financially and you will make a Z collector out there very happy in the process...it's win-win. As for the war of the forums...it really did appear as though you may have come here to antagonize this group. It is a well known fact that this site is geared towards the stock, or mostly stock Z cars whereas hybridz is geared towards the major modifications. If someone went to hybirdz looking for help on a bone stock Z they will flat out tell you to leave and come to this site (it's been said to me so I know). Each of these sites has their target audience and both are necessary to have available, I personally frequent both sites but am really only active on this one because of my interests. You have got to very different opinions from each site, hybridz most say hack it because this is what that audience does, this site says keep it stock because that is what this group does. In the end it really is you choice and your choice only. But please make sure you think it through from ALL angles before making a decision. Best of luck to you in your projects!! These cars are a load of fun! Oh hey, I too want to know what those wheels are on the blue car? I really like them!! Do you have a better pic of them?

Many 240Z Parts For Sale!!
I'll go and pull the vinyl you are looking for and post the pix of them, I remember removing them a few weeks back but I left them in storage instead of bringing them home. The door pannels are gone, there were garbage...holes cut in them for speakers, the vinyl was all torn up, and the wood was falling apart from having been wet at some point.

27th z!!!
Congrats Chris on winning the auction!! I would have loved to be the winner but there's no way I was going that high sight unseen, especially when the seller never responded to multiple requests for information and more pix (I don't know what his deal was but I think he was a very poor seller). I also have to agree with bambi about the price, I was amazed at the final price. :surprised In anycase I'm glad that someone who will really care for the car got it!!

Giving Prize to a Lucky Voter!
Kinda buying votes there aren't you? Well I placed my vote for you car and if I'm lucky maybe we'll both be winners. Damn find car Chino, I have seen pix before and always liked it. A far better choice to win than those other ricers.
