  1. I agree, I would take the engine, even if i was'nt planning to use it. Its such a shame to scrap a F54 block. With only 120k its probably still original and not oversized. The P79 head is one of the better heads on the L series. A lot of people prefer them over the N42/47 because of the high squench chambers.

Check out www.thezstore.com they have a lot of stock and performance parts for the Z &ZX models. www.blackdragonauto.com. has a wide range of stock and performance parts and you can order a hard copy catalogue online. See www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/CTGY/SSSC01C02 for stock mechanical rear suspension stuff.
  3. If its something to do with the fuel injection you could try the system check by okinjectors at http://www.hiperformancestore.com/Ljetronic.htm. The instructions are for an alfa romeo, but the injection system is more or less the same and the step by step instructions are clear and easy to follow.
  4. Thanks Zed, Your tips are great and de links you posted are very helpfull. Ive seen the atlanticz techtips before, thats what brought me up on the idea. Its just that everyone talks about swapping with the 240SX. My tranny is a FS5W71B with the brass syncro on 5th (see photo). Probably out of a maxima? Nigel's photo blog is top. The difference between the two transmissions is well documented. Cheers
  5. Hi all. I have a 280z with a FS5W71A but the 5th gear is just about stuffed. Its whinning a bit to much for my liking and if I am going to change it I would like to upgrade to the FS5W71C I live in the Netherlands and found someone here with a FS5W71C from a 300ZX 1985. Most people talk about swapping the 240SX tranny and modifying the bellhousing on the "A" to clear the cluster gear, the larger bearing and one fork selector rod bore also needs reeming. No one talks about doing this with a 300ZX tranny. Is there a reason for this, maybe ratios or some other alteration in the 300ZX preventing the swap? Any advise would be greatfull before I take the plung.

The only thing I can find in the manual is a general rule for, I quote: Cover bolts M6 0.4 to 0.8kg/m (2.9 to 5.8ft/lb) The valve cover uses M6 bolts Hope that helps Cheers EuroDat
  7. Thanks siteunseen, I have been looking at changing the screws since mine are damage. I lifted the rail with injectors to find a faulty injector. That seemed the easiest way to do it. I did a very simple test and found a clogged injector by cranking the engine with the plugs out. See photo's. I found it easier to replace thee rail with injectors but the leaving the hose clamps on the injectors loose. That gave my more flexability when fitting the injectors. Cheers Eurodat
