  1. Thank you Alan,Bryan. And thank you everyone who posted here. Also who are watching here. The data sheet comes with a supplement. There is a figure showing where the VIN shold be stamped on the firewall. It said 330mm to the LEFT from the datum line(center of coronal plane) for S30,PS30,HS30.Then 350mm to the RIGHT for HLS30.For all of them,VIN number should be 5 numbers, like S30-XXXXX and its width including prefix should be 130mm. I measured mine, yes, approximatetly 350mm,but the width is only 75mm anyway. One thing is interesting, all the first car(S30-00001,HLS30-00001,PS30-00001,HS30-00001) was born to be a test running car,the sheet says. At this point on 25th JUN 1969,the sheet says only 3 cars rolled out from the factory,(so cross-reff with another data,we can easily find the other cars were still on the assembly line). But there is a assignment of duty for each car, which should surposed to be used for registration/ for press/for an examine of the factory/e.t.c. Totally there are 14 cars listed on the sheet. There is a question for you, #1 what are those car's VIN?what is a sequencial order of 14 cars?(I say again there might be a difference between the VIN and the results of roll out order. But the factory set the sequencial order for those 14 cars anyway.) If you nail it down,I will give you my NOS 1969-1972 rally-clock. kats
  2. Thank you Alan, I am glad that you enjoyed it very much.To be honest with you,I was not for sure about your saying "1969 RHD 240Z".Everytime I think about the red, very low VIN HS30 we know, with regard your saying, why there were big time differences between HS30-00001 and 00034.The 00034 has many parts which were applied in early to mid 1970.There were only aproximately thirty cars between them, that is why I was not for sure HS30-00001 was made in 1969. I think Carl just needs amend his website, just a little work, Alan. Some people may think I am a weathercock, but I do not think I am a kind of man.I just want everybody to enjoy this topic.Hey,today is my Birthday:) I will tell all of you about much detail later, but for now,I just want to put this. The data sheet got published date "25th JUN 1969" just a week after when I was born. Thank you, kats
  3. Thank you very much Bob,Mike. I need good advices just like yours.I keep them in my mind. And I want to make sure for all of you this,I did not invade into the factory nor steal the data sheet. This is true!!I said I am hegitating to show and I can not say where I have got.But it does not mean I stole:love: There is a complicated reason for this. kats
  4. Hi everyone, Alan, thank you for re-engaging!!That is right, the two test cars(round trip in the U.S.) should be re-check their vin number.Let's see how they will be later. Now I feel most of people don't need these kind of information(about prototype cars) including me,because I do not have any prototype car nor 1969 car. This is not my business so I should be relax, just enjoy to see and imagine from the data how the cars were built in early days.I am curious how many people think this topic is attractive. For me,I do not need it,but I am very very interested in it. I need to exprain my thoughts with more detailed.I mean,I said "sequence" for S30-00001 HLS30-00001 PS30-00001.During long-life discussion,I became to think The VIN is VIN. VIN does not much exactly sequence which car is first and which car is next when cars roll-out from the factory.I can say everybody agree with it. But,this time it is a slightly different.Like these prototype, there was a sequence. The data sheet which I have got yesterday is telling it. The answer is ,No.1 is S30-00001 No.2 is HLS30-00001 No.3 is PS30-00001. The data sheet which I have posted its picture before assits this sequence so you can review my old post. The answer is,HS30-00001 was earlier than HLS30-00003.Why I asked this,I just want to tell all of you HS30-00001 was made in JUL 1969 to cross-reff with my old data. Is not this great,is it!Alan!! HLS30-00002 was also made in JUL but it is earlier than HS30-00001.HLS30-00003 was made in AUG 1969. Please tell me how everybody thinks about posting a picture of the data sheet.Of cource I wish nobody in Japan(except me) see this thread. If I post a picture,I can show you actual facts but it does have a risk of ALL-ENGINE SHUT DOWN all lights are gone, get into the darkness then we may never get futher information from the factory. If I do not post a picture, you will get frustrated and very hard to imagine due to my poor english explanation. But we are very for sure to get futher much more detailed information from the factory.I have a positive reason for this because there is a few words about REGULAR PRODUCTION CAR in the data sheet. It is very very short, only a few words but it does say "Regular production car's VIN will succeed production prototype and is going to be managed collectively by section 2010" I believe there must be "regular production car's VIN data sheet" in some place. We have got at least two data sheet so far,it is natural to expect we can get more for sure. Thank you, kats
  5. Hello, I am very exited right now.The reason is today I have got a very important data relating 1969 very very early cars. But I am hesitating to show the actual photo of the data seat and I can't say where I have got this right now. This time it is a little bit delicate thing to show. And I need to amend my post the very first one. Please review the first page, I said "Factory prototype-KOJYO SHISAKU" was not given the VIN number. But it was not true. These cars were given VIN number,so you can see 3 cars were built from May to Jun 1969,they are S30-00001 and HLS30-00001 and PS30-00001. Here is some questions for you, #1 which car was built early between them? What was a seaquence for them? #2 Which car was built early between HS30-00001 and HLS30-00003? Thank you, kats
  6. Hello Dan, It is a good to hear that you are keeping hard to reach your goal, seems you are climbing a high mountin but you will reach on top soon. You set a very strict aiming point,I just hatts-off for your effort.Chris is doing hard work now too,and the cars which I saw in the stock class also have been aiming the same point. My Z is no longer competition queen right now.I just want drive it,it is O.K gold plated parts is turning dirty and loosing its shine. I will post a few more pictures which I am so impressed, wait a little bit please. kats
  7. Hello, It was a great meeting to you Chris, nice to seeing you again. But I could not have much time to talking with you,it was too bad!But talking with you about Z car at the facilty of Texas Nissan, that was very short but very interesting. We were just before the pre-briefing of the rally, eating sausages and eggs!!Please say my thanks to Rick,Jim,Fred, and other Z friends. Me and my family had so much fun, especialy my family was so impressed that the convention was great and well organized and the hospitalyty for the Japanese Z members was very nice. For my family they even could not imagine how the car guys were doing there. This time was the first time for my family to attend Z car meeting ever. For me,this time was a 3rd trip so I knew how much the convention is wonderful.I can not expect such a great convention in Japan. Our group Ultimate Z car club of Japan have been hosting a Z meeting every autumn. We can not do same thing but we do as much as possible to have fun! Dan,I thought I could meet you there,I hope meet you again some day.The stock class was very exciting for me,many nice cars especialy my interests went to 3 240Zs.The one is Bob's car and the other is Dan's(Banks) car and 1969 green Anne's car.Every 3 cars has special things to look at.I had to leave Texas before the closing banquet so I did not know who won the class. Now I agree Dan's car won the gold medalion. What the most amazing thing is,his car's weatherstrips of the inner tail gate. They are so mint, unbelievably good condition.Correct shape for the early cars and they are NLA from nissan right now I think. Anne's 1969 car is my favorite.I even did not imagine that I had a oppotunity to meet her and her Z before leaving Japan.I happened to see her car in the internet last year. Her car got a seat cushion guard for both seats!!And amazingly crean hood support rubbers for rare 1969 cars.Great story is not it,the car with her from 1970! Chris, let's talk about seat cushion guards for some time.I am ready for the mission. Best regards, kats
  8. Hi 26th-Z, Your post reminds me that I have got FAX message from Mr.Matsuo a few years ago.I would like to share with all of you on this site. First paper, #1 You can see the drawings of fog lumps and coat hangers.Mr.Matsuo said in this fax"...I wanted to apply Austin or Lucas type fog lump for Z(S30) like 310 410,but they are big radius and gogeous and heavy,it is tough for Z's thin bumper. So I disregarded the idea..." "...early chrome round coat hanger is from 410 (pininfarina design) .Same as 410,Z needs cost cut,so the hanger went to plastic.Next I designed a new hanger made of chrome, but it turned plastic when it applyed.I still keep proto type of this..." Second paper, #2 In the middle, you can see the audio players. They are all Mr.Matsuo made. They are all proto type. The left one is AM/FM auto tune radio and he put this proto into 240(Mr.Matsuo said 240Z,not Z or S30 anyway) This prototype unit is exist still now,and Mr.Matsuo gave me this.I should keep it. The center one is a 8 track stereo it has got out put amp. The right one is a cassete deck for a car which became the first production model for the car. This applyed 610/710 as a option he said. #3 The bottom, you can see the 240Z ownament.I asked Mr.Matsuo about this proto emblem when I found this in Mr.Matsuo's article. He said,"...this quater ownament was a design study, made of wood,I do not have this anymore" "...410 SS and SSS was my original concept and I designed emblems and I was deeply involved to produce these car,and this success brought me a promotion to a cheif designer of a sports car studio. That is why (SS and) SSS is very important for me." If you can read Japanese, you will got more information than my poor english. Thank you, kats
  9. Thank you daddz, very good paper you have. We are tring to ident when our car was born. Many many discussions have been on this site,I love this topic. Now what I am thinking is,it is not easy to nail down the build date. We(or NISSAN) need to settle down "what date is suitable for the car as a build date".But it is difficult to difine the build date. However I can imagine when my car was born. This is very fun to do this.Nobody can say 100% for sure about this,so we can enjoy "imagine" the day when the car was born. And I think our imagination is not bad,it is getting closer to the Actual date when we find the date stamps on its car and gather the data as much as we can and compare friend's car.(I know I need to clear what is Actual date anyway) My 240Z got 11/69 for heater harness, 12/69 for seat belts, 01/70? for rear differential, 01/70 for the spare tire wheel 02/70 for engine room harness, 02/70? for engine block we discussed before 03/70 for rear view mirror mount basement 03/70 for steering horn basement 03/70 Door jam tag So, I can say this "My 240Z CAN NOT be born BEFORE 03/70"This is only what I can say right now.The latest day which is found in the car become the key.My car could have been in assembling line until 03/70.And I think it is very possible my car has completed in 03/70.The factory does not seem to hold my car without reason, many U.S. people are waiting to recieve. We talked about accuracy of the door jam tag before,in my case I think I can use my door jam tag as a reference. I want to know,is there any car have 1969 door jam tag but it has 1970 stamps on its parts? In this case, the door jam tag is strange. These inside dash harness is unlike to replace. So they are very useable to imagine the biuld date. daddz, your tool kit paper is a very good reference.Because I think the tool kit is installed very final stage in the assembly line,is not it?It is not ahead of installing dash and other interior vinal trims I think. If you do not find the date later than 08/70,your car's door jam tag not only can be used as a good reference also prove door jam tag's accuracy for your car.The tool kit paper shows the tool kit was made day by day I mean it was not made far ahead of car's production schedule.I guess it is small parts but the factory did not made too much nor stock too much. kats
  10. Please see this,Nov 1969 240Z's hood bumper. Also Mr.Watanabe's Dec 1969 Z432 has same bumper. I do not know the p/n for this. And I am curious about this bumper is originaly applied for other Datsun models?? Some scan from Nov 1969 LHD 240Z parts catalog.Very fun to look at. kats
  11. Hello Dan, I saw some early japanese Zs also have seat cushion guards.Attached picture is Mr.Watanabe's 12/69 Z 432. I checked again my Nov 1969 LHD parts catalog, but there is no p/n for the seat cushion guards in the seat section.Alan can tell us what is in the RHD 240Z and Fairlady-Z parts catalog said. I saw 2 screws around a door opener of some jpanese Zs.Actualy they are all Z 432R.I am not sure,Fairlady Z,Z-L,Z432 may have screws. But it is possible I think. Once I asked Mr.Nishi(proffessional restorer) is the screw for the door panel panel OEM or not.I told him I saw many early U.S.A. 240Z have the screw for the door panel.I said I think it is OEM,how about in Japan? He siad probablely OEM,and do not know factory or dealer installed. He told me he saw some early japanese Z has the screw, also he noticed there is no p/n for it.Mr.Nishi said some small parts are not listed on the parts catalog, this is not surprise thing. After that I looked up my catalog, for example, hood bumpers at each side on the cowl top,it was not listed in the first printed catalog. But early Z has a hood bumper (it is very unique style, different from currently available one)I think this bumper never get p/n because when the catalog listed p/n 63840-E4100 for the hood bumper,it is already superceeded to later style(currently available one). However,I found some very very eraly Z like used to press photo, they do not have any hood bumper on the cowl top. Please see this picture from Jan 1970issued japanese magazine Z432(we know this car PS30-00013). Thank you, kats
  12. Hi, I am still looking for this tire,I want to buy at least 2 more.Is there anyone can sell this tire?I pay $100-200 depends on condition. I found why nobody offers his tire on this thread, because I used a wrong word. I must say "trade" not "exchange". I also accept for trading my emblems or console and clocks for your tire. Is there anyone can sell/trade your tire? kats
  13. Hello JROME, I would also be interested in your tire if it is 175 SR 14 Bridgestone superspeed radial-20.If available,I would like to see the photo of it. Please see another thread which I started up for an advertizment http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20678 Thank you, kats
  14. Hi, late 1969 to mid 1971 owners, As I posted Gary's thread, http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20520 I want OEM Bridgestone 175- SR/14.Here is additional photos in my web, this pictures are given from 26th-Z. http://www.geocities.jp/datsunz903/tire.html I add a throttle linkage for exchanging. This is off from Japanese Z,I am not sure the build year,I only know this is very early because there are no "ON" letter on its surface. And please note the figuer(marking) of parking light,it is painted white. This means there is a parking light switch indeed.Actually Enrique's parking light switch is off from this console some years ago. Console is a bad condittion, some cracks and holes there. You can fix it by your self or send to a shop they easily fix it.And I do not know why, some one cut the right side lever arm little bit from top to one inch. But this is not affected for applying plastic knob and functioning. This came off from Japanese Z,but no problem for applying to LHD model. For the throttle linkage, end plastic glommet is not good condition but can be applied for the throttle pedal arm collectly. Is there anyone can exchange your original bridgestone tire? I also revised my offering,ONE tire for my rally clock. All metal emblems and Chrome metal emblems they are remain same, each for ONE tire. Of cource I pay for the shipping to Japan. The steel wheel is not neccesaly,if it comes with,it is nice. Thank you, kats
  15. Hi Keith and Carl, I am not sure about that superceeding, but Carl did answer it as I was expecting he did. I posted my rare parts last time, but no one have talk to me yet.Are these parts not special for the early owners?I have to list other parts which can catch the owner's hart.Or I hope some one can sell the tire for me. kats
  16. Hello all, I have found this thread, I am now asking all of you for this original tire. Is there anyone can exchange your tire for my nice parts collection?I need at least 3 of them,if I am lucky I want to have 4 of them. I am offering 3 rare parts. #1 NOS "clock with a stop watch" in the box.You know this, this is a standard for some Japanese Z like Z432 / 240ZG etc.I do not have an oscilator for this clock.I payed $500 for this Yahoo Japan auction 3 years ago.To be honest,I want to exchange this clock for 2 or 3 tires. #2 A set of 1970 emblems they are ALL METAL Emblem. They are spare emblems of my 240Z.But I would release them for the tire. They are nice condition only easy clean up is required, but rear hatch Datsun is needed to be restore.Rear hatch 240Z is restored already. #3 A set of 1969 to Jan or Feb 1970 Chrome Z METAL EMBLEMS.Rear hatch 240Z is restored,R quater 240Z is stripped for painting. They are very rare to get a set. This tire is what I have been looking for,I only have ONE tire right now.I got one from ebay last year. That tire looks original, not replaced from the original steel wheel, the wheel got 10-1971 5Jx14 stamp on it.The tire got KS682 and KJ5X. Let me know if you can exchange your super speed radial-20.I want good condition tires.Private Message is suitable for avoiding disturb this good thread. Thank you, kats

Hi,all! Mr.Harigae sent me a CD of S30-00002.I post some of them, please take a look carefully. My quick impression of this car is,"very complecated" or how do you say, "doutfu?l".Because so many parts seen in this car are known as "1971 model" My eyes went following these points, #1 Dash center vent, grilled #2 Break master Vac is large type #3 Steering wheel spoke has holes #4 2 tool boxes in the rear deck #5 rear suspention member"carved for a later defferential" #6 Seats and carpet is not like 1969 assembled Z car #7 rear quater panels has air vent So,generaly speaking, this car could be a 1971 car.But I do not know. What a complecated thing is,the VIN punched on the fire wall. It is very clean and for me,no evidence to be re-attached or re numberd by someone. What do you think of this? I guess 2 stories. #1 This car was assembled in 1971.But given S30-00002 for this car I do not know why.Of cource true S30-00002 was born in Mid 1969,but let's say it was scrapped for the test in the factory,so the number was disapeared from the earth.I dout Nissan used the number "S30-00002" again at the begining of 1971 model production???? #2 This car is not original S30-00002,could be S30-xxxxxx.Only the VIN portion was transfared from S30-00002 with very carfully "profesional cosmetic sergery".Or,this car's half front is S30-00002 but half rear end is S30-xxxxxx(1971 model). Please help me every one! kats P.S. Mr.Harigae said to me,he is very glad to hear so many people see and talk about this car.He said please discuss whatever related this car,he is also excited about some facts will be found.I have got the clearance about post pictures and post coments(whatever) from him.

Hello 26th-Z, I know Brian said that, and I think it is correct.Do you remember one of two test vehicles for the U.S. & Canada in late 1969 had a automatic transmission ? The automatic trans existed already in late 1969 just it was not released until mid 1970.Also Nov 1969 parts catalog listed parts numbers for the automatic transmission. S30-00002 was released to out side of the factory but I think that car was originaly not for the customer,so it was given the automatic trans before Nissan officaily made auto trans S30. And about rivets of radiator support,I already notice it and I am showing it in my web site. When I boght my 240Z,Tetsu (restorer) told me that rivets are the good sign of early production.I think manufacturing process was a kind of slow in early days,so they have a time and money to put those rivets? Thank you, kats http://www.geocities.jp/datsunz903/rivets.html
  20. Hello Bryan, Yes! the WASO is important for me,I am very interested in it.I feel some mysterious atmosphere from it.Original early Parts which I have never seen generates my interest. Hello Alan, thank you for the picture of keys and valid points of view. One thing about the Safari car,its steering lock escushion ring is painted reflectable bright yellow. Is this for the night operation? I wish to see the key and cylinder of 1970-early 1971 HS30. If the WASO key and cylinder are listed on ebay, nobody be interested? This means I can buy them easily without any bidding fight? kats

Hello, I asked more photos to Mr.Harigae so will be available soon. And he said this car has automatic trans!!He and his friends think this car had been used as a test car in the Nissan.I suggested him to trace the owner back to its origine we can do it in Japan but Mr.Harigae said that car does not have a licence plate,he said it is impossible to do it.I just want to know who owned this car or if it had never been owned by someone,it means Nissan owned it then threw it away to a junk yard. It was a quite positive rumor that there is the S30-00002 in the jank yard north of Tokyo area.I heard of it once before but I did not think it was true. Mr.Harigae bought it from there, matching area as the rumor. The attached photo is a shot of underneath of S30-00002. Mr Camouflage, please do not mind but I would like to say about the title of this thread. It needs 4 zeros!"S30-00002". I had never seen such a lot of Zeros before the chassis number. Thank you, kats
  22. kats replied to Mr Camouflage's topic in History
Thank you Mr Camouflage, and everyone Mr.Harigae will difinetly be happy to see this site, and I am very surprised because so many people think it is restorable.Mr.Harigae is not like ordinaly japanese Z car mania,he will restore it.He think he can do it,so he bought it I think. He showed me so many photo of it,I notice some points. #1 the car have different years seats and uphostly,so it was used quite often and seems there were a few owners kept driving and enjoying it some around 10 years ago. Thank you, kats

Hi kenz240z, Blue air cleaner I saw it some times in Japan too.I think blue one is nothing different just color.Remember I post before the car which is seen in the earliest service manual have a blue air cleaner. This is interesting. 26th-Z,I found your distributer's shaft maybe the rarest according to parts catalog."xxxxx-21005" is superceeded -21006 in Nov 1969.I think this change could be a first time among of HLS30 hole parts. kats
  24. This is a WASO key,can you see "WASO" on the face? The tip is longer and this portion "pushes" steering lock mechanism. If you cut WASO key's tip,you can use it as VOSS key. So the Technical service bulletin said there might be a problem of un-desireble locking due to mix VOSS and WASO keys.I think that is very very rare case but can not say never happen. Also the bulletin said VOSS key was applied from HLS30-00001.Then I think WASO was applied for HS30(of cource early HS30). The picture from 1st Nov 1969 service manual showes unusual steering lock mechanism, you can see the exterior view is completely different.A Black round end cap is interesting.I think this steering lock is WASO type.I see the wires on the locking mechanism, but I think HS30 does not have a buzzer for ignition key.So this picture's steering lock is for HLS30 for Europe? But bulletin said HLS30-00001 got VOSS,mysterious.Or there is only one 240Z built in May 1969,this car does not have a serial number.I guess this car got WASO with buzzer switch? kats
  25. Hi, I post this photo for checking the differences of VOSS key between original and reproduction from Nissan. The left is original 35 years old key.The middle is came from Nissan which I bought it at local Nissan 4 years ago aprox 600 yen($7.00 U.S.) The right is also came from Nissan last year I forgot price but some 600 yen too.The biggest difference is,the right one is not completely same,a finishing around my finger is pointing. The middle one is better. kats
