  1. Put longer wires on there and run them through the fire wall leaving the box inside while you drive. Put some fuel in and go play, you'll feel, hear and see the differences. When mine got "right" the temp gauge was cooler the fuel gauge didn't move as fast and the car itself will pull like never before.
  2. How about posting a picture of that fancy box, I'm curious to see the difference from what I did here. Except I ran mine into the cabin and mounted the knob where the radio volume knob should be. http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/tempsensorpot/index.html
  3. I see plenty of Permatex Assembly Lube dripping out, looks like a murder scene.
  4. I would think if you didn't touch the cam or anything related it would stay intact and in time. I'm looking at an extra cover right now and do not see anything that attaches to any timing parts. Just guesses. Good luck. I've only built one motor so I do not know, BUT it does look like you could leave all that stuff on the cover. You'd probably want to pull out the distributor and check the spindle position though. Maybe one of the racer will tell you for sure.
  5. You did a good job on that, congratulations. I can't wait to see what the motor turns out like.

I've got the high flow Melling oil pump on my 280 and it shows 3/4's on start up then 1/4 when hot at idle then back to 3/4's while driving.

I'd take the car that matches the cones over 2 of those 370's.

Plus me on those speed bleeders, fronts are different size than rear though. I put one on my slave cylinder too.

My best luck/prices has been rockauto.com and amazon.com. If you have an Advance Auto close by buy their stuff online and use coupon codes from retailmenot.com, sometimes you can get $10 off for every $25 spent, then pick it up at the store, no shipping charges. Also your local Nissan dealer. Bring the parts guy a cheeseburger & fries and you'll have a friend for the life of the Z. They used that motor up to the '84 Maxima I believe, so parts a plenty!
  10. I had one fall out after a rebuild and Jeff helped me to get it back. I couldn't explain the procedure like he can. Way to go Jeff!!!
  11. You sold it already? Or you kept it?

Kinda sounds like somebody was getting it ready for competition of some kind. You shouldn't try and crank it right off the bat, they'll get all the muck from the gas tank ran through the fuel system. Use the search box and put in "waking up the beast" or something like that, not positive what the words were. Read, read, and read some more, then when you get it take a bunch of pictures and then ask what to do. You'll get bombed with good ideas and suggestions. This is more about restoring to original condition but there's tons of "fast badass" on here. Here's a good read Datsun L-series ZCAR engine modifications. Welcome to CZCC
  13. Good luck and I'll tell the 2 people around here that drive me nuts wanting mine. I'd be proud to ride with that car. Rocker stripes look good too.
  14. Felpro from amazon.com $18 with free shipping to me, I'm not sure about your latitude.

Z_lis, 240s won't have BoostControledDecelerationDevice, BCDD, unless you have EFI for fuel delivery. Google it.
  19. Bottle jack was #1 helper for me too.
  20. Yeah, that's good to know. You wouldn't want that flowing coolant.

I think he's saying it won't turn over now.
  22. If your talking about that big pipe below the head on the block that's for the PCV system. A hose runs from there to the PCV valve screwed in under your intake. I can't get the pictures in my library to cooperate right now. OK I got it. Where the red line is.

  24. My Dad worked at a Goodyear plant when those little Honda Civiccs first came out and if somebody drove one they would pick it up with a forklift and hide it, damage be damned. Now there's a Honda plant here that buys tires from that same Goodyear plant. He's retired long ago and drives an American made Toyota.
  25. According to Tom Monroe's book, pages 130 & 131, "if it's to the left it's retarded and the sprocket should be re-positioned clockwise to the next dowel hole and align 2 timing mark at teeth-if originally at 1- to bright link". That makes no sense to me though but that's what he wrote. EDIT: Could it have gotten off TDC a little?
