Reviving an L26 - My 1st Engine Rebuild Ever.
My 1st car engine re-build was an L28. I bought this book, http://www.amazon.com/Rebuild-Your-Nissan-Datsun-Engine/dp/1931128030/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410169231&sr=8-1&keywords=how+to+rebuild+your+datsun. I didn't have one single problem and it fired right up, never had to call my Dad for help. He was amazed and disappointed.

Steering wheel re-did, no gloss!
I forgot to add, I don't recommend Valspar's spray paint. The sheen isn't accurate and it takes forever to dry. I ended up buying a HVLP sprayer from Autozone for $60 and it works great. 3 parts flat oil to 1 part gloss oil, thinned 50% worked out really good for the spokes. On the rim I used some Fabulon Super Satin wood floor poly I had from when I sealed my hardwood floors in my house. The 1st try, with the Helmsman and Valspar rattle can black worked as a kind of pre conditioning for the final finish. Sanding off the Helmsman actually brought the fake grain out like a sanding sealer would've done. Sanding the Valspar off worked like a body filler would on some scratches that were on the spokes. Now I get to put it back together and drive.

diff and tranny gear oil capacity?
This is from my '78 FSM. FS5W71B manual 5 speed, 4 1/4 US pint. So I had to get 3 quarts. It's on page MT-18.

Steering wheel re-did, no gloss!
I did my wheel like everybody else. After sanding the rim I wiped it with mineral spirits to get the dust off. I liked that look but I went ahead and did the Helmans coat with some semi-gloss I had already. Turned out good but I don't like shiny so I re-did it with satin, spokes and the rim. Now I'm HAPPY. On the horn pad I covered DATSUN with Vaseline before I sprayed it and the black wiped right off, old school trick from painting cabinets without removing the hardware.

1977 280z w/ MSII, rough idle, sneezes, and wont accelerate
The MS II didn't fix the problems you had in the beginning? You've replaced a lot of stuff and it hasn't helped, I did that too. For mine the biggest thing was a huge rotted hole under the intake at the back, windshield, where the EGR is. Get a mirror and look under there. The 2nd thing was putting a potentiometer in the coolant temp sensor circuit. http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/tempsensorpot/index.html

Checking rear wheel bearings
Here's Blue's Tech Tip for replacing them, http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/rearwheelbearings/index.html You might get an idea :bulb: from it. Hopefully it's in your brakes, this looks like a PITA.

Exhaust leak?
First money I'd spend is a new fuel filter. Passenger's side fender, behind the radiator, $10. Sluggish could be from the timing be off, not so sure about an exhaust leak causing it. You should do a cheap tune up for $50 before setting the timing though. Distributor cap and rotor button, new spark plugs and maybe wires. Chain parts stores have the parts, cheap too. Here's a good helping of tips and with plenty of pictures. Tech Tips Go to "electrical" and read about cleaning the grounding wires, it will help bring it back alive.

Heater Control Valve
I got one from my Nissan dealer about a month ago, $45 I think. Took 2 days to come in from Irving, Texas distribution center. Nissan part #27116-E4400. Now I have to gather up the hoses, Black Dragon and MSA have the 3 preformed ones for around $50.

Hello Z Folks
Ha! Actually I first read about it here,http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/open-s130-zx-discussions/52940-hello-all.html, then went to the 2015 ZCON thread. I didn't pay attention to it at first because it's always somewhere way away from me but when I did read it I about fell in the floor laughing at YOUR post. Me and gwri8 should have plenty of time to get our cars ready. I'm hoping it's not in August though, it's still hotter than 3 feet up a goats arse down here. 95 today!

Could it be the cam's power band, or lack of?

Hello Z Folks
I didn't even know it was going to be in Mumphis this year, so heck yeah! I'm gonna make a vacation out of it if I can swing it with my job. I've always wanted to do that "Blues Highway" trip through Mississippi anyway and Zcon would be the icing on the cake. We'll get together for sure.

Hello Z Folks
A.D.D, O.C.D and the BCDD. You've got them all now. Working on mine have been the cause of alot of worrying and doing things I normally wouldn't do, going overboard is a good term. The 1st year was the worst, the last 2 have been the best. After I completely rebuilt my '77 I stayed around this forum reading and learning more, I think I know more about the cars from what I've read than I actually do the cars. After reading so much about 240s I had to have one, now I have two! These cars and the folks on here have changed my life. I've always had good figuring out sense but Zs have taken it to another level. I've learned patience, and that's something I've never had. The guy I work for always tells me to "do like you do those cars" when I'm up against a challenge at work. My parents have noticed a calmer person too. Anxiety gets things done. Keep doing what you're doing. Best help for a '77, Tech Tips

2015 Zcar Convention
- so.... here it is
99% of Zs have a crack in the dash, 100% OE clocks do not work. Mine have been at 4:20 since I bought them. If your's didn't have these problems, it couldn't be a Z. The filter is to keep you from ever having a problem with fuel delivery. You said it had been sitting for awhile. Here's one that's been sitting too long. This is what I bang out.- Hi from Canada!
You are very welcome, I'm just the middle man. Blue for President! No wait, Canadian Prime Minister!- another new guy
That's the right attitude to have, it's a hobby that'll keep you busy for a long time. I drive mine less and less now that I'm learning how to work with them and fearful some jack-wad is going to hit my car. I thought I'd found a real gem of a car myself, then a hole under the passenger's seat appeared after removing the seats and carpet. Complete floor pans, $190. Complete LH Floor Pan for 70-78 Datsun / Nissan 240Z, 260Z, 280Z - so.... here it is
