  1. Beautiful photos of your car! Sometime in the future I hope I can buff mine, now it just tears up the rags.
  2. My dog made something similar to that this morning.

Me too. Adding attachments now takes forever, they just won't show up in my File Upload Manager. I end up using the Basic Up Loader option.

Here's what I've come up with. Yeah it's a toilet flapper but it's new.
  5. Glad you got it back running. You mentioned something about your mechanic doing some electrical tweaking, maybe he burnt it by accident. You might want to turn on everything else and make sure you have all your accessories, lights and wipers etc.
  6. I knew I'd read this Tech Tip for the fan clutch but had trouble remembering the wording of the site, not atlanticz.com. 240z 260z 280z 280zx Datsun Fan Clutch Rebuild
  7. That looks like a Napa fuel filter to me, isn't that what it says on the side? You may have blown a fuse for the fuel pump, hopefully that is, instead of burning it up. Can you straight wire 12 volts to the pump and listen for the whirling sound? or pull the out bound hose to the carbs and see if it flows fuel out into a jar or something. If it had plenty of gas in the tank I wouldn't think leaving the key on would burn it. My '72 has a mechanical pump on the front passenger's side of the valve cover. They don't have pumps in the tank.

  9. Your friend should at least keep your cup full for all the work your doing, I would.
  10. One easy thing to do and avoid gunking up your fuel system is to put in a fuel filter between the tank and fuel pump. Also put in a new OE one up front in the engine bay, behind and to the right of the radiator on the passenger's side firewall. If it's been sitting a long time you should drain the old gas before trying to start it. Here's some things to look at: Z Car Tech Tips Fram G3 Filter Installation Z Tech Tips Ball and Socket Compression Rod (AtlanticZ.ca) EDIT: That last link shows up as "ball and socket compression rod" but it is actually about removing the gas tank and shows how to drain the fuel.
  11. Aren't the clutches filled with grease or some type of oil? If it spins less freely when it's hot it's doing the opposite of what it is supposed to do, right?
  12. I wonder if a spray silicone with the little red straw would quieten them down?
  13. I've tried them both and the 6 month old clutch will barley go 1/2 of a round while the one on the 280, that was on it when I bought it, goes 1 and 1/2 to 2 turns but cools just fine. Hope that helps you out.
  14. If the fans spins too easily with the car off it very well could be the clutch. It shouldn't even make a complete rotation when spun by hand, in my experiences.
  15. Thanks for the replies. I went ahead and set it at 15 BTDC and when I was turning the distributor I could hear the difference in the motor, it kind of quietened itself and seemed smoother?, as always I had a wrench in one hand and a beer in the other one so going out to test the car wasn't in my plans but....I couldn't stand it! With 87 octane already in there I went out to a Connector Highway, nice and flat and about 5 miles long. After fiddling with the potentiometer and scanning for the cops I turned around and gave it a romp. When the wipers lifted off the windshield I lifted off the pedal, looked down and saw a little north of 115 MPH and the temp gauge was in the "E", much cooler than usual. Couldn't believe how quick it got to that speed. Leon I'd love to give somebody a $100 for a Dyno run but those aren't too common in my neck of the woods. Anyway I've got something to play with until the weather cools off. Thanks again for your replies
  16. It can be done. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/engine-drivetrain-s30/49184-1978-280z-2-2-cylinder-head-removal.html read post #46
  17. Anybody with this fuel tweak found a timing degree that is better than 10 BTDC? I'm thinking of trying 15 but I don't really know what "Pinging" is. I guess it's a noise that's noticeable? Thanks for any advice.
  18. Thank You. I've got the F54 turbo block with dished pistons & an E31 head with hopes of running pump gas.
  19. Same thing with mine!
  20. Lovely motors to look at aren't they, beneficial too.

Did it ever work right, before the bypassing? Maybe get a new ignition switch, both of my cars have newer ones. But it does sound like your starter teeth and flywheel teeth aren't mating just right. I just compared ZX starters to Z's and their part numbers are different and a lot more $$.

If I need to check the total advance, 3,000 RPM, should I reconnect the vacuum advance hose?
  23. I had that same question when I did mine. The stud kit that came with my header had normal hex nuts without any locking washers. I felt that they would back off so I went to my local Nissan dealer and got what he called "conical nuts" or just slightly out of round. If they spin on really easy I wouldn't use them, the out of round will not finger tighten easily you have to wrench them down, that's what keeps them from backing off. I went bigger also, some of the holes were wallowed out pretty bad on the head.
  24. I don't think you can replace the roof on these cars, I do not know that for sure but I do know that the roof has structural function. Back in my college days a buddy of mine wanted to make a targa top out of his and the car started "folding up" when he cut the roof out. He had to have angle iron welded on the bottom for support and it took 2" off his ride height, he'd get stuck on speed bumps. Yor car has the dealer installed options my '77 has, side trim and the pin-stripe. I would bet that sunroof was a dealer add on too, you might have to learn to like it. I found a few with your wheels so they could be dealer installed. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/wheels-tires-brakes-s30/23378-280z-factory-alloy-wheels-value-feeler.html Read down to #18, it's an old post but your wheels are worth some $$, supposedly.
