Good luck finding a RHD mirror here in Australia. I looked for a while for a used one and eventually got one from a friend of min who was wrecking his 2+2 out due to a collision. The mirrors are VERY hard to find here. I understand that they are available from All-Z Parts in Sydney new. Joseph
  4. Factory minimum spec is either 115 or 125 from manual. Quoted from memory as I dont have the manual here at work.

Jim Are you able to provide some more info on your console restoration service. Stuff like whats involved, whether there is a differentiation between the early and the late console, etc. Im looking to have mine repaired, its pretty bad. Thanks 240 in OZ

Alan Can you please let us know how you get on with the centre console that you are having done by them. I am interested in getting mine done as well after I noticed this service listed on their website. I sent in a few emails to them but didnt really get anywhere on the process or quality etc. Thanks Joseph Gauci 240 in OZ
  7. Sounds plausible, but how do you explain their presence on the Japanese home market cars that didnt have to be transported via ship to their country of origin? I also dont remember reading in the manual advising dealers to remove them prior to selling the car as it does with the tie-down shipping hooks. I have a copy in a book that I have of re-printed road tests on the 240z. The very first one in the book appears to have been completed on a LHD pre-production car as it has hubcaps installed but no emblem in the centre as they still must have been deciding what to go for at that stage. I also think that it doesnt have the rear pillar badges (from memory, book is at home). This car has them fitted. I have also found that they keep the area behind the bumper bar clean as well. This area is very hard to access with the bumper in place. Joseph
  8. For anyone that is interested I have a set of genuine Nissan ones for sale here in Australia. I purchased a set for my car as it has the Japanese style mirror on it and then accidentially purchased a second pair. They are brand new, still in Nissan packaging. See my initial for sale ad posted to the board some time back at: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6301&highlight=australia They are still available if anyone is interested. Joseph
  9. Halz Not sure on that one, but I would guess no. I remember reading somewhere that cars came from the factory with the standard mag type wheels that are referred to in the original post from 76 onwards for our market. Im not sure if they were an option prior to this. I have picked up an original Australian spec 260z sales brochure recently and both of the cars featured in it are wearing the factory type mag wheels. The brochure is dated 76. I will be scanning this soon and posting it to the website. One 260z that I know of that came from the dealership with its original stamped wheels and caps was a very early 74 car. I purchased the wheels and caps from the second owner of the car for my 240z. I have also seen numerous re-printed roadtests conducted in Australia and the cars all seem to be fitted with the standard stamped wheels and caps. The road tests date from 74 and 75. Joseph Joseph
  10. Alan I know of a few 260z's that were delivered into Australia and actually sold by the dealer with the original pressed steel wheels and Z style caps fitted. Joseph

Gee Yes, I do. I have heard of some guys actually cutting the tranny shift lever and re-welding a purposeful bent section in it to overcome this fitment problem. Joseph

Gee The only problem that I can think of with this swap is the different tranny used by Nissan between the early and the late car. The early console was designed for the A type tranny while the later console was for the B type tranny. The B type tranny is shorter in length than the A type, hence there may be a problem with the tranny shift lever in such a conversion. I currently have a B type tranny installed in my 71 that has the early type console (I didnt do this swap) and whoever did it has notched out the front edge of the tranny shift lever opening a little to accomodate the B type tranny. It isnt noticable from the top with the outer vinyl dust boot installed. I also believe that the opening in the tranny tunnel itself has been modified to take the B type tranny. I also cannot fit the inner rubber dust boot around the shift lever. I have found an A type tranny with correct flanged driveshaft and am going to have it rebuilt/installed soon, probably over Christmas this year. Hope this helps you out. Joseph

Just reviewing their web site and they list that they can "do" the centre console of the 240z. Anyone had one of these done by them or anyone looked into whats involved in their process? Joseph Gauci 240 in OZ
  14. Hello I am trying to ascertain what level of pollution gear (if any) the 1974 Australian spec 260z got. I know that the full set-up (as seen in the USA in 73) was introduced on our cars in 76. I am also trying to ascertain if the same model/spec car got the carbon cannister which is mounted in the engine bay besides the radiator on the drivers side (note RHD). I think that this cannister was part of the pollution gear. I use to own a 75 260z 2+2 (complianced 07/75) and it had the carbon cannister but it had none of the pollution gear intact; it may have been removed by a previous owner though. Can anyone send me photos of an original Australian spec 74 260z engine bay, or direct me to some posted on the internet anywhere; I couldnt seem to find any in the gallery here on the site (there may be some there though). Thanks for any help. Regards Joseph Gauci 240 in OZ

26th-Z I would only install the driving lights if they are the original factory ones that were an option. This is the correct location for driving light activation switch, ie in the dash cut-out above the hazard warning light switch. Regards Joseph Gauci

Hello I have found that the original double wire type hose clamps used by Nissan/Datsun on the z series were also used on cars made by them of the same vintage. Here in Australia I have had great results scrounging in junk yards in the boots of 120y's, 180b's of the 70's. The clamps in the boots are usually not exposed to the elements and usually look new and have the original yellow zinc plating still attached. I remember last time I was at the junk yard I pulled about 30 clamps in various sizes out of junk cars. When I went to pay for my parts (I had other stuff as well) the guy laughed at me for wanting so many clamps. Oh well, Ill have the last laugh in the end ;> Joseph

  23. Alan T. No, I have no interest in buying this car or any Samuri conversion. I just wanted to post the ebay auction to the discussion board as an interesting discussion topic. Joseph
  24. Guys Havent seen this one posted as yet: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2926438792&category=2030 Whats everyones take on this one? Regards Joseph
  25. Mike W Sorry to disagree on your comments re oil type not important for the carbs. Too thick and it will be sucked into the engine and too light and it is useless. I have found a mix of sewing machine oil and general engine oil works best. Joseph
