Ijust grabed my 82 print of the s30 body manual, looking at the PD section of the manual it states that manual cars have 3.7 R200 and autos have 3.545 R200 diffs. I have attached the schematic of the R200 take note of the extra size, strengthening ribs on the fwd section, and the large rear raised attach pad for the rear mount bracket R180 does not have this feature, also from the rear the R200 housing normally appears oval when compared to the R180. I checked out a mates 260Z sport on the weekend and have posted it for sale on this site and it is 2/74 Australian complied vehicle with an open center R200, it has not been played with, it looks genuine factory on a very low Kilometre car. I believe the 4.1:1 ratio R200 open center came to Australia as the standard front diff in the 720series diesel 4X4. Another thing I heard on the week end was if you have an R200 open center diff and you replace it with an R200 LSD version then the two half shafts have to change positions for the installation IE: left to right side and right side to left. steve :classic:

  6. I would recommend that in all instances with electrical components to do with a Z or any other Datsun/nissan go with the manufacturer of the oem component fitted, for bosch distributor stick with that brand cap and rotor and all other minor components. the reasoning for this is you get suttle diffrences in the configuration of the components and they may not run well to gether if at all, especially rotor button to distibutor cap. Mitsubishi electric also supply a distributor in this age range for the L series engine and the same rule would apply. My brands of choice is hitachi for all electrical component and yes NGK BPR5ES-11 sparkplugs for my L28E daily runner. Hope this helps Steve

  8. That forward hose should come good with a minimal of trimming. It appears that at some time in the past someone has replaced your lower thermostat housing with the wrong configuration probably 180B or 240K. What I did for this problem on my car was to source a replacement lower housing. The best way to deal with the coolant loss is probably to drain down below the level of the hose into a bucket using the radiator drain **** on the lower left of your radiator. put it all back in when you have completed your repair. to the repair that line pre heats your Hitachi carbs and other than warm up time you can live with this problem in the short term as the rear hose will heat the water slowly just with no flow. Hope that helps Steve
