  1. I have had the same clearance issues on my 240. Both with the stock steel 14'' wheels and also with 14''mags. I don't use wheel spacers. You will need to fit shims/washers on the caliper mounting, to centralise the caliper with the brake disc. I was able to grind a minimum off the corners of the calipers to give clearance for the rims. This just removed a bit off the cooling fins. My mags still run very close to the calipers. All the talk of having to fit a larger master cylinder. I dunno, but i found the stock master cylinder works just fine, and i had no noticable difference in pedal travel.
  2. I assume you are meaning Toyota Hilux-Surf calipers. You will most likely have clearance issues with these calipers and 14''wheels.

Nice job. I found that a few taps with a hammer around the perimeter of the spring caps before using the compressor, will loosen the collets.

Thanks for the pictures of your holiday Bart. Nice pictures.
  5. Very little oil there. Hard to tell from a picture where it may be coming from, but looks as though from somewhere higher up in front. Did you change the oil before the trip. Spilled some???
  6. I had a similar problem on my 72. Was a dirty distributor to coil connection. I had previously squirted WD40 around, and over time it had collected grime on the connections.
  7. A little footage from Targa NZ

Doesn't really look that bad. A coil removed from the front would probably be my choice. My 72 looks a similar height at the back.

Three inches difference front to rear. Are you sure the rears are still stock.? A picture would help. I have taken some off both front and rear springs. The spring should still be firm between the top and bottom perch when the weight is off the wheel. I used a gas torch, and cut off around 1.5 coils from memory. You could probably use a small disc grinder with a cutting disc. Cut on the angle. A hacksaw with a new blade might work, but would be awkward. I assembled the struts and lowered the car to check. Did this a couple of times. Bit of a pain. Brian.
  10. Sold. $1325 US.

We are paying around $2.15 litre for 95 octane here in NZ. 95 is our lowest priced fuel, which i have been running in my 72 for the last 16 years. It appears our fuel is equivalent to around $2.28/Litre Canadian.

Sounds to me like a small end or piston noise. Broken ring. Piston slap. I had an engine which broke a ring, and a couple of pieces ended up mashed into the top of the piston. It sounded similar to your video.
  13. Yes that sounds about what i did too. I also plastered black underseal on there to make sure no muck gets into the cavity. Hoi JB. Nice to see another 'senior citizen' on here. Brian.

Hey Old Head. It may be worth spending a few dollars on a set of valve stem seals before you rebuild the old mill. You don't even need to remove the head. It would be interesting to see how many more miles she can do. Link below. Valve Seals
  15. I had fitted halogen lights, and was afraid of cooking the headlight switch, so i fitted Daves plug and play LHD headlight relay harness on my RHD 240 4 years ago. In conjunction with Halogen headlight inserts, it is a major improvement to my car. I don't recall any issues between LHD and RHD fitment. Found a suitable screw hole to hold the relays on the bottom right inner fender. Instalation took perhaps 1 hour tops. I attached the relay positive wire to the terminal from the battery, at the starter motor. 'Flipping the harness.' Fitting from LHD to RHD. Brian.
  16. Exhaust bracket or pipe or muffler just touching the body somewhere.???

I had similar on my 72. Was a loose low voltage wire connection. It would stop for no apparent reason then start-sometimes.

    Thats great.

Hey Bart. I once had an annoying bouncing in my 240, and the tyre shop traced it to four poor quality tyres which were impossible to balance. The inside bead of the tyre was not true with the tread area, resulting in a tyre that moved up and down when rotated. Tyre brand FALKEN. I could have named them something more appropriate. I kicked myself for buying cheap. Brian.
  20. 32C is a pretty hot day. My 72 does exactly the same during the hot summer months, but in winter it is OK. Try not to idle in traffic. I fitted an electric fan to mine in front of the radiator, which has helped somewhat. I flick it on when sitting in traffic.

The idea would have been to get a cold air intake into the engine.

Definately go with body colour for the engine bay.

Can you fit a cold air intake in front of the radiator.? Worked for mine.

Only when hot? Might be fuel vaporising.
  25. Silly question, but are you using a metric feeler gauge.?
