Cleaning metal fuel lines
The metal fuel lines on the 240Z that I am working on (has not run since 1989) have quite a bit of brown goo in them. I blew them down from the engine compartment end and air will pass through the lines but blobs of brown tar came out at the tank end. I sprayed half a can of carb cleaner in the engine side of the lines and followed with more air but it's not working very well. What is the most effective way of getting dried up gas out of the metal fuel lines?

New 240Z build
Good advice. I have a Mallory distributor hooked up to a MSD box on my silver 240Z and it never misses a beat at any RPM. I'll look into the individual coil pack setup.

New 240Z build
I was planning on a 60 amp alternator running an msd box triggered by the stock alternator hooked up to a set of Taylor wires. Is there something else I should consider?

New 240Z build
Oops forgot the brakes. I have a set of Wilwoods sitting on my work bench that will be going on the car. I agree with the importance of the seat. I am tall and I hit my head going over bumps on the street without a helmet. So, I'm in the market for a low seat. I'm thinking I'll likely have to mount what ever I go with to the floor. Any suggestions?

New 240Z build
I've been doing a bunch of reading and I think I have a plan. Engine: Leave it as it is. It looks like it's in good shape so I don't think I'll mess with it until later. Fuel: 44mm Mikuni's from Wolf Creek Racing (big but with small chokes they will work the same as 40mm's and there is lots of room to grow with 44's). RX7 fuel pump. Holley FPR. Exhaust: coated MSA 6:1's to a 2.5". Muffler TBD. Spark: MSD 6AL2, stock dizzy Cooling: 3 row champion radiator, 2x12" electric fans Drive train: stock, upgraded to CV's in back. Wheels: 15" Rewinds with 205 Nitto NT-01's Suspension: tokico illumina's on Eibachs (from my other car), big sway bars front and back Seat, harness and cage: TBD Still lots of reading to do in order to get the details right but I'm hoping this is a good start. What do you think?

1972 gas tank in a 1971 240Z?
I'm in need of a new gas tank for my 1971 240Z. There is one listed on Craig's list described as being from a 1972-73 240Z. I have not been able to find any information that says that it wouldn't fit. Is this correct?

New 240Z build
Just got finished stripping most of the engine bay. Nothing left but a short block supported by a jack stand. No surprises yet. Everything came apart very easily. The back of the intake and exhaust valves look fairly clean and the radiator was full of very clean looking antifreeze. Very happy! The only real issue that I came across was that the throttle shafts on the SU's seem to have quite a bit of play. At least more than I'm used to. I assume they are going to leak given that they have 110 000 miles on them. I could rebuild them but then I would have a rebuilt set of carbs with a vacuum leak. I'm thinking of moving my Z Therapy SU's from my other car (3.0 liter Rebello) and getting a set of triples for it. I've always wanted a set of triples to play with and the SU's should support the 2.4 liter quite nicely. I don't know much about triples...time to start reading!

New 240Z build
It does have lots of original parts including a new stock wiring harness, heater hoses, dizzy cap, etc. that have never been installed. Not sure why the previous owner bought an extra wiring harness but I'm sure I'll find out soon. There are actually quite a few low or no rust cars in this area. I looked at one last week with an original uncracked dash very low rust and he only wanted $1000 for it. If I had the room I'd buy it and part it out.

New 240Z build
I've been looking for a platform to build into a track/street car for the past few months and I finally found one. It's a 1971 2 owner 240Z. Very solid body, zero rust as far as I can tell so far. It's been resprayed but I don't think it's had any accident damage. The engine has not run since 1989 so it's going to take some work to get her back on the road. I put ATF in the cylinders and was able to move the crank a few degrees by hand so I think it's not seized. I pulled the valve cover and everything looks very good. The gas tank is full of crud so I am looking for someone to boil the tank. Does anyone know of a shop in the Houston area that can refurbish gas tanks?

Looking for new carbs to replace triple Mik's
I've got a set of su's if you want to trade. I'd even throw in a small pile of cash.

opinion on accident damage
If the unibody turned out to be twisted then how much does it generally cost to have it pulled back to proper alignment?

Sounds like if there is a frame problem that it can be fairly easily fixed. Thanks guys!

opinion on accident damage
I've been looking for a S30 to build into a track car and I think I might have found one but I need some advice. It's a fairly original low rust 240Z with a seized engine that has been sitting in a garage for 15 years. Cosmetically it's a disaster but I think I can pick it up cheap, gut it and build a decent track car out of it. My only question is about potential accident damage on the front of the car. The panels on the passenger side front of the car don't seem to line up all that well and there is bondo on the rad support. You can sort of see it in the following photo... I don't see any other obvious issues with the body or frame but I am worried that an accident may have twisted the body or frame. Cosmetics aside, what do you think the odds that a punch in the nose could cause issues that would effect the ability to use the car on the track?

Wobbling dizzy
I had a wobbling dizzy when I installed a new mallory unit. Turned out to be a badly machined coupling at the bottom of the distributor. You might take your current one out and make sure that it is aligning properly with the oil pump drive and that the oil pump drive coupling is good shape.

Factory Air Conditioning Kit Vs. Aftermarket Air Conditioning Kit.....
I have the old style with modern 134a compressor in my daily driven 240Z. It works fine in here on the Texas gulf coast. It's not as good as a modern luxury car but good enough that my G37 stays parked even in the hottest day of the year. It's in the mid 80's here today with high humidity and the system had no problem keeping the cabin nice and cool during a 10 minute wait at the drive through window at lunch today. I think the key is to make sure all the under dash duct work is air tight, install the Honda blower motor and keep heat out of the cabin with tint, sun shade, etc.

head gasket or hypochondriac
I used radiator stop leak powder one time in the past. It stopped the leak but two weeks later my thermostat stuck open. Could be a coincidence but I'd rather find the leak and fix it in this case.

head gasket or hypochondriac
Crap! Should have thought of that.

head gasket or hypochondriac
Yes it was. Should I test cold?

Hope I don't have to do this again
Drool!

head gasket or hypochondriac
I just did a pressure test of the radiator and found that it went from 15psi to 13.5psi in 10 minutes. I don't see any leaks but I am loosing pressure somewhere. I'll check the back of the head as you suggest.

head gasket or hypochondriac
I have been smelling a slight coolant odour when coming off the highway lately. Not much but it happens every time I go from 70 MPH to a stop. I stuck my nose everywhere I can think of that would leak and I can't find any thing external so I am worried about the head gasket. I did a compression check and got 180-185 for all. Plugs look consistent except for #3 which is a little yellow (middle in the following photo). I am not burning any oil or coolant and I don't see any water in the oil or oil in the water. No overheating issues. Am I imagining things or could the HG be starting to go? I'm taking the car to Texas Motor Speedway for a track weekend next month so I want to make sure that I catch anything that may give me issues before I hit the grid.

205/50ZR15 on the track?
Great feedback. I got a great deal on a set of nitto's nt01s on rewinds. Should be here next week. Heading up to Texas motor speedway next month. Can't wait!
