240z 1960's Testing
Thanks for the pictures. Those test taillights look somewhat reminiscent of the "Mexican 510' or even a 210. The steering wheel is the same template as 510 Bluebird SSS.

That piece can be hand fabricated ( depending on your skills) out of Delrin plastic and a Dremel Mototool. Delrin is dang near indestructible.

240Z Hazard switch differences
Sure bro' that is just philosophy 101. People say (and write) lots of stuff ( not my judgement to label as "foolish" or not) which may or may not be true. If I have an opinion about it, it is where opinion has replaced factual evidence as de riguer. For example, I cannot wrap my mind around the reality which some choose to live in where they believe that the earth is flat.

240Z Hazard switch differences
I have already provided an explanation for any other version factory installed to not be rigid and inflexible. Let me amend that statement also; after "Datsun idiosycrasie" should read "factory installation" instead of "installation." If I am mistaken where are all the heavy hitters telling me I am so and providing incontrovertible evidence to support themselves?

Right because reality is now whatever I believe it to be. Alternative facts y'all.

240Z Hazard switch differences
" I suspect" = opinion. "Anecdotal support" = more exact than opinion based on one or two exceptions to the rule. Enough proof based on actual removal of said switches on enough vehicles to postulate a correct theorem as to what goes with what. Scientific method stuff... Also, I have sold enough of these switches with the parameters I put forth and not one buyer has come back and stated " That is not the one which is on my vehicle." Curiously, part numbers (except one) are not found on the one online source I use for all my Datsun part number needs.

240Z Hazard switch differences
"Appear to be original"- How can you be sure? Your switch is original Datsun no matter what iteration is on your car, there were no aftermarket manufacturer for these. "I see no evidence that anything was changed"- You would not see any evidence as a swap is a direct bolt in. 1, 2, or 3 supposed occurrences do not a statistic make.

240Z Hazard switch differences
I stand on my original designations, I have pulled enough of these switches to back it up with anecdotal support. Just because the switch is in the car, it does not mean it has not been changed at some point. And...there is also that Datsun idiosyncrasie installing on vehicles items that should not be there; switches from other production runs, interior plastics etc...

240Z Hazard switch differences
Hazard Switch Clarification; 70- 72 240z's in the USA had one of the following three hazard switches; 0. All wiring is identical with the exception of harness length ( "short harness" or "long harness"). 1. Series ONE 240z; 70- 1.71 (The knob on the left that says "FLASH") with a short harness. 2. '71 240z 2.71- 9.71 ( The same knob as above with a long harness). 3. '72 240z 10.71- 9.72 ( The knob with the 2 triangles and no writing and a long harness). Dates are approximate. That single triangle knob is an illusion, if I look closely I can see the indentation of another triangle which needs to be cleaned or painted. All switches will interchange and function in 70- 72 240z's, the differences are mainly cosmetic. Shameless plug; Hey Jim if you are selling, I am buying!

SURVEY: 240z Hitachi AM/ FM Radio Question
Because I appreciate that some Datsun owners are fanatically obsessive about detail but am wondering if it really makes a difference to the average owner. I have a bunch of nonfunctional Hitachi AM/ FM radios and need to make a decision what to do with them. One of my vendors is a business in Sacramento whom repairs these old relics but repair time is getting frustratingly long (like 6-8 months on end). For years they did a very excellent and cost effective job for me but I am pretty much of the opinion at this point that they are unreliable. Solid state radio repairmen are a dying breed and trying to find another is a dauntless task. Perusing the internet, there seems to be a fair amount of repairmen whom replace the old guts with new circuitry while utilizing the stock case, knobs, plug and dial. So I guess I am doing cost/ benefit analysis for both directions. Thanks for the help folks! daniel p.

SURVEY: 240z Hitachi AM/ FM Radio Question
Hello, I have a query for 71-73 240z Hitachi AM/ FM Radio owners both current and prospective. Does it matter to you if the the insides of the radio are not OEM? If the obsolete 40 year old circuitry is swapped out for new digital innards does it make a difference as long as the exterior is identical to OEM? Thanks, daniel p.

Rare Step Lights
Seeing as I am a sucker for Datsun esoteric minutiae, here is something for y'all. Step lights were offered rarely on a 240z. How about step lights for a 260z or early 280z? The top panel in the first picture is a 240z with a light cutout of about 3 1/2" X 1 1/2 inches. Below the top panel in the first foto is an early 280z door panel with the same looking type of cutout measuring about 3" x 1" . The second picture shows the location of the cutout (behind the window crank). I searched far and wide for a part number or illustration and found...nuthin'. Is this one of those phantom non- existent Datsun parts?
