Sacramento Area Munch and Bench Race
That is a very long story but Jon - you asked... about 5 years ago while I was doing my anesthesia residency I drove the car down to Oakland so some of my colleagues could see it. On the way back home, driving on 680 heading for 80 I see a red Firebird probably mid-90's coming up on me at 100+ MPH 680 is two lane in each direction and I am next to a Camry so he isn't going anywhere. Besides we are in heavy traffic. He comes up behind me and hits the binders and sits just inches off my rear bumper backing off and speeding up like he is trying to intimidate me. Finally, I hear him accelerate and I feel myself starting to spin. He had just nudged my right rear enough to make me light back there and I began to spin the rear toward the driver side. It was such a light nudge that I didn't even hear it. But, when he went by me he hit the right front pretty hard. Then, he veared off and NAILED the Camry in the left rear corner. I spun about 4 times and wound up facing traffic in the inside shoulder. I had gripped my steering wheel so hard I broke it from its center... But, I did see the Camry flying through the air. It landed out in some rice field off the outside of 680. I got out of the car and looked at the car in the field. I called 911 from my cell phone and said to send EMS. I looked up the highway and the Firebird was stopped in the middle of the road, the guy had one leg out the door and his airbag had deployed. He was arrested for DUI at the scene. I was able to drive my car home. I waited 6 weeks for CHP to finish their report and I was amazed that his freakin' insurance company didn't contact me. Finally, I stopped in Fairfield at the CHP office and picked up a copy of the report just as it was finished. His insurance was CAAA. I called information from my cell phone and got connected to the claims department and when I told the woman I had been involved in an accident with their insured on April something or other she said, "wow, he was in another accident that day on the 680 but it was a single car vs: guardrail" I explained to her that it was certainly not a guardrail and that a woman was airlifted out of there to UCD Med Center and she didn't look good. The woman said she would have a supervisor call me back. The supervisor checked my facts, CHP report number and such and had CHP fax her a copy then called me back. She said that they would "take care of me." The next day a woman called and offered me $1500 for the car. Luckily, I had it insured for $12,000. They called in an independent appraiser who valued it at $14,000. They offered me the 12K and I said, Ahh no... Your own appraiser said 14K so I will keep the car and we will go with your numbers. They took $700 for "salvage value" and I sold pretty much all the rest. Although, I still have a bunch of parts in boxes... I was so burned out after doing all that work and having it destroyed in an instant that I went to Porsche's and swore I would never have another Z. Then, I found a one owner '73 with just about every Nissan Motorsport part installed or in a box and here I am back with you ugly mugs...

Hagerty Ins. ?
My wife is about to become an agent representing them. She will probably do a banner ad or something if that is available. I insure 2 Porsche's and a 240Z with them and I also could not be more pleased. There is no argument over what I say it is worth and I always get prompt answers to questions. Good solid advice. My wife will be a broker for them soon... That is her in that avatar...

Sacramento Area Munch and Bench Race
Oh!!! That stung! Today as I was leaving the driveway at 9:55am to go to a get-together I saw a very nice red 240Z go past my house and turn into the Fair Oaks Post Office parking lot... Anyone want to identify themselves? Z anything is welcome! I will be driving my Carrera and most Porsche cars are going to be 914's... Very low key. Just a bunch of car guys eating carbs and drinking coffee.

which carb is for me
I am about to put a set of round tops on the classifieds here complete with the air cleaner manifolds and carbs for $150.00 I would think any four barrel set up would pool the fuel in the manifold. Not good.

Sacramento Area Munch and Bench Race
Mat, Thanks, I don't really know my way around the site yet so I didn't know about the regional thing. Did I have the date wrong? Saturday is actually the 28th... Anyway, y'all come on down... Some Porsche friends will be there too. Let's see if we can outnumber them!

Sad story - friend can't smog his car
Mat, I think I know the management of his apartment building if I am seeing the picture correctly and it is taken there. If I had seen this earlier you could have put it on my property... Closer...

Show me your red interior!
pregunta... My red interior has black window cranks. I notice a picture of red ones. Were they originally supposed to be red? My car is a '73 white with red interior... I bought the entire interior replacement parts from MSA and CDM... Now, I have to scramble to get them in before the ZONC Hooter's Show here in Sacramento... Anyone here in Sacramento a whiz with the vinyl glue up parts... Fat Tire is on me!!!

Playboy Nissan 350Z pics...
Ha!!! Well the title pretty clearly describes a car which you guys are all familiar with. I was going to put the yabo pics right next to Mike's thread titled "boobs." These were taken during the build of the cars which took only about 3 days if I recall... They had a rough season but will be back.

I thought you guys might enjoy these pictures. A friend of mine was the crew chief for one of the Playboy 350Z cars last year and will probably be involved again...

Door locks and handle assembly
E, I think that does help. I see a plastic nut with a post that can be threaded up or down. I suspect it got twisted a little by my 10 year old helper as it has some clean threads. Too late to mess with it tonight but I will put a wrench on it tomorrow and loosen it up... Rob

Door locks and handle assembly
I feel like a newbie. I am putting my '73 240Z back together after paint and today I reassembled the door lock handle assemblies. They have been off the car for about a year and after I get them together the seem awfully tight. The handle hardly lifts and everything seems like it needs to be lubed... Do these things come back from the dead or do you have to buy new or hunt for good old? I have never had this problem with any of my old Z cars...

Desmogging Hitachi Flat Tops
It matches up well with a phrase I am always telling my students. Common sense is not all that common anymore...

Why the Z may be the perfect car for the next 10 years
I do all have-to driving on my motorcycle. It seems to get 45mpg no matter what I do. Like clockwork. I turned 21500 on the way to work this morning. The bags allow me to haul pretty much anything I need to work. One tank of fuel lasts two weeks with my commute. Pretty nice.

Ummm... Me.

Why the Z may be the perfect car for the next 10 years
The Porsche Cayenne hybrid which will come out next year suffers almost no performance disadvantage to it's fossil fuel brothers the Cayenne and Cayenne S. No kidding!
-
Why the Z may be the perfect car for the next 10 years
By next year Porsche will have a Hybrid Cayenne. Over half of Porsche production goes to the US and about half of that goes to California. I see a couple of scenarios that would meet the standard. One is that Porsche now has a controlling interest in VW and VW can easily meet that standard. They might appeal and say that Porsche and VW should be considered one company. They are also in the process of producing a new model called the Panamera. This will be a four door sedan and could also be a hybrid model. Basically when you say that Porsche may pull out of the US market and cease to produce the 911 you are saying that the company will cease operations. I disagree...

MSA's New Konig Imagine Wheels
I like them. They look actually a lot more classic than the Kosei K1 Racing wheels I have. I would make them my second choice behind Panasports. The K1 are going though for sure...

Air Flow Meter boot replacement
I have seen black RTV used to caulk the cracks shut. I have seen silicone hose used but you have to find the right size. I managed to find the stock stuff but that was a few years ago. I may even have them... I have lots of parts.

Considering Aluminum radiator
I have one. Griffith or Griffin, I forget... Works well. My last Z I replaced with an OEM which also worked well. It just has to work, up to you...

car shipping companies.
I have used DAS and the car arrived with every orifice stuffed with Oregon snow. Grants Pass I suspect. This, somehow in a closed trailer. This last time, I used Horseless Carraige. Very careful and meticulous. I give them 5 stars!

Car names factory
Carl, The five schools I teach for agree with you. They find Wikipedia an interesting concept and in reality it will ultimately dictate meaning. However, students are not allowed to reference Wikipedia as an academic source. An ancient semiotician who's name escapes me said "whatever you call a thing, that is what it is". He was refering to the unique human ability to assign name and therefore meaning to a thing or phenomenon. This is why Wikipedia will ultimately dictate meaning. Interesting discussion... I appreciate your analysis. Rob

Sorry, that should have read associated with the name Nissan...
