2009 Nissan 370Z Private Preview in L.A.
Its coming to Houston as well, and the local Z club is planning on attending. I will definitely be there!

Vintage Z for sale
Um, even I think that is a bit steep. I want the value of our cars to go up, but 40 grand is quite large for a factory 1997 recondition.

L24 performance upgrades.
Don't put too much stock in that backlash 'feel'. I thought the same thing about my stock diff. So much I ordered another one. Well lo and behold that one had exactly the same feel as mine. I thought my clunk was from the diff, but it turned out it was from the tranny mount. So, it sounds like your doing diligence in your search, good luck.

Best "performance" tire for a 70 240z
I used the Falkens for my last season of autocross in Houston in my Subaru WRX STI. They are very sticky tires. I plan on putting them on an extra set of rims for when I take the Z autocrossing. I cant wait!

4-Speed Tranny Drain/Fill Plugs Stuck
Where is the fill on the4 speed tranny. I am about to drain my fluid to change it out, but realized I do not know where the fill plug is. The drain is easy, but the fill was not just jumping out at me. Which side is it on?

Local Z car club meet with lots of pictures
One of the local Z Nissan Dealerships was taking delivery of a new GTR and they invited the Z car club of Houston out. So we saddled up and went to take a look. There was many more, but I thought I would throw a few of my favorites up.

Best "performance" tire for a 70 240z
I believe that in that size you can get a set of Falken RT-615's. What I like to call the best budget Autocross tires you can buy. They flat out stick and are very reasonably priced. Check out www.vulcantire.com

Transmission Mount Issue
I understand Arne, you never said that, I tend to act on impulse at times, and when I saw a part that was correctly made, the strangest thing happened. An uncontrollable urge came over me to buy it without question. It was peculiar. I feel it happening again with a Monza exhaust.. wAIT.. Its happENinG.. CANT stoP...

Transmission Mount Issue
Thanks, I did get one off ebay, from the seller Arne pointed me to. His shipping is very high (especially since we are both in Houston), but after my refund from Black Dragon, its almost a wash. It has taught me a valuable lesson. Check with this board first, then the dealer second. MSA and BD are great and all, but the factory still supports these cars quite a bit, and I need to take advantage of that.

Teach me about my z car (1971 240z Series II)
It sounds like you have a good start of a life completely absorbed by cars. I am 35, and its been my passion since I was 15 years old. As you can tell Landshark, the 240Z is more than a car. I am not going to get all metaphysical on you, but have you ever seen a car generate such loyalty and such passion as you have seen on this website and on this very thread. I have been part of countless automotive forums, and I have never met such a genuinely honest bunch of people as I have on this board. Folks like Arne, Carl, jmotenson, just to name a few are always around and never seem to tire of helping people keep these great cars on the road. It took me 35 years to finally be able to afford my 240Z. Its in good shape, but its not perfect. I have loved every single minute of wrenching on it. Its the first car that I have not had to take any shortcuts on and the 240Z is worth every single penny, and every single minute. Its been on jackstands for a little over a month during my 'clunk' investigation and its been sorely missed. I long for the cruise nights and the car shows again that always accompany the cool weather in the south. The 240Z is everything Carl mentioned above and more. Its the Japanese 911. Its has truly timeless styling. Its well engineered, and was designed and built with the correct passion that all cars should be conceived with. You are being given a great gift. You would be wise beyond your years if you held onto it for many years to come.

Clunk elimination has begun, with pics
Bad news, I received my tranny mount again from Black Dragon and it was wrong again!! I ended up ordering a NOS one that Arne pointed me to off ebay. Still cheaper than MSA, so what the heck. Halfshafts should go on soon, and the back end will be done. Just waiting for a transmission mount, and I can start driving her again!

Transmission Mount Issue
Thats the one. NOS is probably just what I need. You can see that the bolt that goes into the crossmember in that pic is clearly in between the two bolt holes. BD's distributor has a quality issue.

no chance you have a picture of it before you installed it HA HA HA Could not help but laugh at such a ridiculous question

Transmission Mount Issue
Well I have received my second tranny mount for my 7/71 240Z. And again it will not bolt up. The problem is the same. On my mount that I removed, if you draw a line in between the bolt holes that go to the transmission, the threaded bolt that sticks down to attach to the cross member is directly in line. On Both my mounts I received from Black Dragon, the threaded bolt for the cross member is a 1/4" up. No amount of forcing, cussing, or beating will make it go in this way. The Mount is just not right. I guess I will try MSA, but if they use the same vendor, then I am hosed. I have a new Nissan diff mount, so I wonder if Nissan Dealers would carry a tranny mount? Black Dragon Mount: Old Mount: Here is my car waiting for a new mount!

Shift lever and knob spinning together?
I called the dealer and my parts are coming in 3 days. Dealership was happy to help me out as long as I prepaid for them. They were around 2.67 a piece. Thanks!

Clunk elimination has begun, with pics
before: after: pardon the blurry shots, did not properly focus. American Shelby 500's 14 x 6 if anybody wants them, make me an offer. I have some spots I need to touch up on some of these parts, namely the half shafts, but I can do that after I get all the nicks on them during installation. My new tranny mount shipped out today, so I should be in business soon.

Just wanted to give Black Dragon kudos
Well, I did not have to return it, they just said they would send me another. But apparently since I am new to the game, I am not aware of the history everybody else has had. I usually have bad experiences when trying to phone in a complaint. I was surprised that they were so ready to ship me another. I cannot be jaded yet for I have ordered from them dozens of times, and this is my first hiccup. But your words are heard and understood.

Turbo 350 Transmission
Hey there 280ZSS, I wish you luck in your project. One thing, the R200 is the differential you have. I have an R180, and DAtsun 510's I think had R160's. I have not done the research some of these other VERY experienced Z guys have, but I would imagine your best bet for rebuild parts is going to be mail order shops. You can order the seals, bearings, etc from them. As for gears or shafts though, I am at a loss. Good luck!

Shift lever and knob spinning together?
I fear Arne is correct on having to pull the driveshaft. I was under my car trying to replace the transmission mount and looked up and saw that the yoke coming out of the tranny is very much in the way. But seeings how I need to get my driveshaft U-Joints redone, I may as well pull it and be done with it. Judging form the condition of the fluid in my rear end, the tranny oil is probably in bad need of changing as well. But I am happy to say that I am done with the 'WHILE I AM HERE I MAY AS WELL's'

Just wanted to give Black Dragon kudos
I recently ordered a new transmission mount from BD. It arrived on time but I did not get around to installing it until this weekend. Well the bolts did not line up... Not expecting much, I called the customer service line at BD. I talked with a gentlemen, Keith I think, and he listened to my problem intently. He even recorded the measurements I gave him. He said he would call me back in about 48 hours. Well it was more like 20 hours and he had another spare mount in his hand and he took measurements on it. Seems I may have got a lemon, and without asking they said they would ship out a new one to me. I have never received customer service like that in all my life from a mail order company. And I have ordered A LOT for all my past and current vehicles. Just wanted to give Black Dragon a shout out, as good customer service should be rewarded. THat is all.

Clunk elimination has begun, with pics
Update: I have cleaned and painted the mustache bar, diff, halfshafts, crossmembers, and bolts. So things are going well. I did find time to get the urethane steering coupler installed, which meant I was able to get the steering rack bushings done as well. I installed my ITG air cleaners, and modified my Black Dragon air horns to fit them properly. So the front of the car is darn near complete except for some vacuum hose reconfiguring I need to do. I am on hold as the transmission mount I received does not fit my car. Its a little off, see my thread on this elsewhere, but long story short, Black Dragon is going to ship me back a new one immediately. I am very happy for their customer service. They handled the problem VERY fast. So I will post pictures up soon. All the parts are cleaned and ready to install. I will say that my rear diff was critically low on fluid when I drained it. I don't see how it lasted at all. Seems that you just need to check everything when you buy a used car.
