at DougN. Maybe it's that BRE Oil cooler.
  2. I'm pretty sure you can rebuild it quite easily with no new parts. sblake01 knows how to do it.

Again Stephen your wealth of Z knowledge continues to astound me. You are once again correct. The 1400 does come from AlanticZ and thanks to your astute observation of my error I will readjust my switch correctly. I apologize to all for posting incorrect info. My FSM does say contacts closed in idle position, open at any other position except WOT, then closed on the other contacts to compensate for WOT fuel enrichment.

I agree with Stephen. Going by your avatar I assume your working on a zx so I dug this out for you . I would also assume the procedure could be used on a 280z by throttling to 1400 and then doing the adjustment. Hope this helps.GL.
  5. you are so right. I drove my maxima for two years like that before robbing it for the 5 speed. I put the Z four speed back in and now I have a clutch!YEAH!

The TPS idle contacts are supposed to break contact at 1400 rpm. With the cover off, have a helper hold running engine at 1400 rpm and adjust switch contacts on idle side to just open. Lock down the screws, replace cover. Procedure as outlined in FSM.

That video was setup. Did you notice that all the cars didn't leave at the same time? And That guy is an arse! I quit watching that show just because of that guy.

Stephn you're right about the 76 fuel light. MIne doesn't work, but to 76280z, when my gas gauge says E I can interpret that as "get to station dumbass before you leave me stranded out here alone!". That would be the car talking to me. Well she doesn't really talk. At least others have said they can't hear her....OK Bye now:ermm:

nope! Wouldn't wanna wizz off the Z GODS!
  11. Thanks Stephen. So I can reasonably say that I'm still dealing with a 280z engine and not a zx mill. Thanks again.
  12. Not meaning to hijack thread but, I have the same situation. 76 280z, build plate says engine should be 084449 but has engine L28-216277. I was wondering is there an engine database to search through for the year of engine? Also has N-42 head. Could I have original head with later short block? Thanks for any info.

Wow! I been askin for that for months! I'd do a 76 but mine is all messed up.
  14. Not knowing what year and model the donor car is makes it hard to determine, but sounds like Sblake has nailed to me.
  15. According to the FSM for an 82 zx, switches in relation to your pics are as follows, 82zx Man Trans.bmp BTW I got the FSM from carfiche.com. Good Luck!

Xakly, you get closer than ten feet and you can see the flaws. I bought her that way and for the most part the paint is gorgeous it's just that whomever painted it didn't pay attention to the details in the prep phase. However, Diana ( I call her that because my beautiful wife is already my Queen ) is very pretty to look at even with her flaws and she'll be happy to know she has another fan

Thanks Jill! She's really a ten footer, but I love her anyway.

Check the U-Joints! Squealing from driveshaft is the U-joints. Joint binding in bearing cup, making heat, burning dust seal or any remaining grease.

welcome to the club Jill. Darbji's gonna be thrilled to see another 76 280z girl onboard. And I'm stoked as well cuz I got a 76 280z too!

just to clear up a few things, though I love my S30 to pieces, that's just what I'm doing to it, loving it to pieces! The more wear I put on it before I do the ground up on it the more I have to do to it. And my S30 is a beast. Sometimes I feel like I'm ridin in a Datsun 510 p/u and would like something more civilized to take longer trips in. Plus my other car is a worn out '83 Maxima and I'm like everybody else, I want something cool to drive everyday not just when I pull out my s30. The engine is the really the only thing worrying me. The climate control console is there, it's the radio that was removed and replaced with aftermarket and removed as well, so I'm not arguing with all of your points cuz you are all right, but with my finances I have to look at the big pic. I can get it for $250 down, take the car and get the title when I pay the remaining $150. So to me it seems like the way to go. I think the timing belt went south taking the valves with it, but there are several maximas in my local pull-n-save jy I can check for heads or complete engines for that matter. So I guess what I'm really asking is, with everything I have to consider is it worth the money to fix and drive or should I stick with my maxima till something better comes along? After all it is a Z and if I don't get it I'm afraid it's going to go the scrapper and that makes me sad to think about. I got you Bob:)
  25. 150k miles, hell it's still brand new!
