Giving My Evil Z Away
The post below is what got me thinking the other day! I will have three Z's come next week and was faced with a lil problem...too many Z's.....too many projects!! This quote came from another thread I had on HBZ. So this is what Dave thought I should do........ ....well this is what I came up with. The new '70 car will be my street Z sleeper w/ L30ET. The Evil Z will get a make over. I am going to transfer Evil Z's drive train and suspension to the red car '71, which will become the NEW Evil Z. Will not be a rush job and will be exactly the way I want it. So the original car I had the '73 is not in bad shape honestly. It would take very little to get it back to what the other cars are. It was a great learning car for me and I am attached to it. The worst part of the car is the rear quarters that need to be repaired or flared! So I am giving the car as a roller to a friend of mine who loves the car and just graduated from Wyo Tech yesterday as his own project car. He already knows he is getting the 84 Maxima as his DD under the conditions that he can't sell it....it was my first car! He got into the BMW tech school and will be attending in Feb 09. I am sure he will be excited but I just wanted to show him I was proud of him and I know the Z isn't a new car but it has history, hahahahaha. It is known around NYC! Just for those who are reading.....good things happen when you work hard and keep trying for your dreams. Life at times may seem like it can never get any better but always take the time out to think of the things/people who make you happy!

Forgot that part, . After looking at the car the next day I told her the miles had rolled over and had 124k. When she saw it she thought only 24k...either way the car was only on the road for 6 years....paint missing from the wheel just looked like surface rust getting to it. The slight mold in the car tells me that the garage it was in wasn't vented and caused that process. Thanks for pointing that out in my original post.

Mike, Honestly the floor doesn't look bad at all from the top side. I wouldn't use the NOS quarters on this car, patch panels would be fine. Hope I am able to pick this one up before it becomes a parts car. It is far far far from that right now. Funny that I sold all the NOS series 1 stuff. =)

You are correct, I believe it was a DD and then just parked. 6 yrs of salt on the body and never being washed off caused what you see. Leading ends of the fenders and door ends were not rusted at all. If you look at where the rust is, it is where you expect salt to "build up" and rot a car away. From what I looked at, I believe it is still a solid frame.

We were working all of that day and yesterday trying to restore power. At the time I went to the door, she knew they were not getting power back for a few days. On her street alone, 5 poles down with primary/secondary wires, transformers and more trees than I can count blocking the roads. Of course when we chatted about the car, I updated her on the status of the power restore. I only went to the door because I can see people moving around in the house as I was walking the roads to report the damage. Most houses were empty or people were up and about looking at all the damage either walking or on 4 wheelers.

Found this Series 1 while working at 12am!
Well Thursday night, upstate NY (Orange County) was hit hard with an ice storm that took out 9000 folks power! So my department with the company gets called out to spot. Which is basically, going from zone to zone looking what kind of crews will be needed to repair down trees, poles and lines. While driving down this road at 12am I spot a Z sitting under two covers. I knock on the door of course because I can see flash lights moving inside the house. A woman comes to the door and tells me it is her dads car and only has 19k on it. Well, I went back the next day and took a few pics. So what is it? 1970 2/70 built 240. Dash --> not cracked....int --> almost perfect! The rear dog leg panels still have the plastic wrapper on them! I was the first to pull up the jute (is that the right term?) on the floor to check what shape it was in. Drives floor has a small spot and looks very very good. Car was last on the road in 77. Basically the car was too small for a family of 5 so was put into storage until last year. The woman I spoke to says she doesn't want to see it rot and would give it to me for very very cheap but her dad who is 78 thinks it is worth lots.....so I made an offer and now we wait. I told her, I know I am going to end up with the car so we went over a few things to keep it from getting in worse shape. Let me know what you think....

Hello from NY...
As far as the whale tail, not sure yet if I am putting it back on. Last week when I saw pics of the car, I said for sure I was taking it off but now it kinda fits the car. Also the fact I have not seen a whale tail like this one that mounts upwards on the hatch when most mount down near the lip of the hatch. I will take pics. This car will get the turbo motor and next year I will look for another Z for the v8 to go into. I plan to buy a stock series one car but I am 24 and have plenty of time Clive

Thanks guys! The silver one for now is my pride and joy for a rookie mechanic! I plan to work the bugs out and swap it all over to a cleaner body "rust free". Right now the car is at 390rwhp

Hello from NY...
I figured it was about time I introduced myself on this site even though I have been here for some time posting once and a while. I am Clive from NY and I live in the NYC area (Rockland County). I have been into Z cars for about 2 1/2 years now and now own two. A 73 with the LS1/T56 and a 71 with lots of little goodies on it. Here is the car I have been building for two years (73): I just picked this car up less than a week ago (71): For a complete story on it please see this link --> http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=141186 I like coming here to the site and learning the history of our Z cars and see some very beautiful stock cars! I have sold some parts here that I believe will make it on some very very nice cars. I am also starting a new Z club in the lower NYC area. I think it is well over due and I hope to have the support of anyone within the area. I already do have a mailing list going and plan to have the club fully up and running by Summer. Please email me if you would like some more info Clive.Bogle at gmail.com I look forward to reading and learning here and if anyone needs any help with anything here in the NY area let me know.

240Z parts bought from EVILC
Mike you are right, if you buy all the parts just to put a Z back together.....$40k can be reached very quickly! If I could afford it, I would spend the money on a Z that was already done. Might seem silly to some but spending the $40K up front......saving time and money! Clive
