  1. Carl, I should have stated that the article mentions cars that are $8-$12k today will be over $30k. Also, what is the biggest difference between a #2 and #3 car......Who could evaluate mine. Would it be possible to maybe have an "evaluate my ride" thread. There are alot of you guys who know so much more than me, I'd really like some opinions.....Good or Bad, it would be constructive critisism. Would that be possible based on pictures and information? If so I'll be the lab rat and post up my car........
  2. I was reading this months issue of Classic Motorsports and they have an article titled "Value shopping...10 cars to watch in 2008" On page 32 they mention the Datsun 240Z and suggest buying one now before these cars reach $30,000.........
  3. Thanks for the input folks, I took the cover off and began my investigation, it looks like the brass piece is the issue. When I turn the wheel the two small post that actually cancel the signal after you turn are just barely hitting the brass piece..(sorry, I don't know what that piece is called) I pulled both small clips out of the way (theses are the pieces that the post actually push down) and it didn't click....but I don't see anyway to adjust it. Arne, it may be the cancelling cam you refered to, is that the brass piece?
  4. My turn signal arm just started "clicking" when I turn the steering wheel, in other words when backing the car out and turning the wheel left or right the arm or lever will move just a bit and click. Any idea what this is? Before I opened the steering cowl cover I thought I would ask you guys to see if anyone else has ever had this issue. Thanks, Randy PS....its a 1971 240Z

I had the exact same problem, it was my alternator and voltage regulator. Even though you put a new alternator on have it checked, you could have received a bad one. Good Luck.
  6. Looking good, Let us know how the plastic repair goes. Did you use any type of plastic primer? It looks like it went on very well. Have fun,
  7. I can not even imagine having that much snow.......WOW...Tennessee would be closed for a month or longer. We get upset if the temps drop down to 30 degrees, I don't think I could make it where you guys live. Here's what's just around the corner though......

    BUY IT.......Then I'll give you $1,100 for it..........:classic:
  9. Here's two side by side with 110 and 918, looks like it's closer to 110.

For 1K you can't go wrong.......Even if it's rusted out the parts alone should recoupe your investment.....maybe. Throw up some pictures when you can. Good Luck.
  11. Thanks Doug, The TR is also at the Dr's.......should be back next week. A little off topic, but the 356 is finally media blasted and body work should start soon, hopefully she will be back by April. (Here's a photo) After a day like yesterday I am so over Winter....(I know, I know, we have really mild Winter's, but it's still Winter) and I'm ready for the time change. Cheers,
  12. And only a $1.99.......How can you go wrong.
  13. Well, It was a tough choice today, 71 degrees and sunny and torn between which 240 to take out, Green or Orange........So I drove both. Just thought I would give you Snow trapped folks something to look forward too, please don't hate me......Man it feels good in shorts...... Love ya guys, Randy
  14. It looks Great! Your turn around time was not bad at all, I wish we had some shops in Knoxville that worked that fast.

Those look GREAT!!! You may have a nice side business to go into...........
  16. I got all the vinyl and the seat covers from Les at Classic Datsun. Interior paint was also matched. Les did all the color dying, I did have to paint the plastic.....be sure to prime it first.
  17. Thanks guys, The previous owner had the car restored back in 1988 at a shop where Mr. K was on hand and had him sign the glove box and the passenger side visor. I thought about removing them and storing them, as most folks don't have a clue who Mr. K is and even after you explain it to them unless they are a Z car fan they don't understand his importance.
  18. It was one of those rare 68 degree days today so I decided to stay home and work on the Z. I got most of the interior finished, but still have some odds and ends. I have been working on the interior since November and now I'm on the home strectch....Crap, now I'll have to find something else to work on. This is what I would call a "Drivers" refreshment, it is by no means a show restroration. Most of the supplies came from Les, so they are as close to original color as I could get. Here's a few pictures. (it was really bright today, so everything appears VERY light....sorry I'm not a photographer) PS....If anyone else has a Butterscotch interior would you please post some photos so I can compare any diffrences.

Thanks E, you are the man. also bkelly, I'm in the same boat as you, I have everything else looking really good I hate to skimp on the console.

Has anyone ever tried to paint or spray the black center console. If so did you use SEM or is it best to just leave it alone. I did re-paint all my interior plastic, but not the console. Did a search but no results popped up. Thanks for any input. Randy
  22. Hey Jim, I'm not sure of the brand as it was mixed for me by a local shop. It is very similar to SEM, but it is not that brand name. If SEM had this color I would have gone with them. I also painted my plastic panels with the same paint, and I'll let you know how it turns out when I get finished. I did use a Plastic Primer however before painting. Take care, Randy
  23. The carpet is still on the shelf, I just havent installed it yet.....(ok, I forgot to put it in before I took the pictures...:stupid:)

While driving the 240 last night on a beautiful cloudless night I thought to myself............. I love the fact that My 240Z: Has that certain "Datsun" smell Has a 160 mph gauge Gets a little warm at red lights but then cools down when driving Clunks in reverse Clunks othertimes Has Vinyl interior Has a diamond pattern Has an exhaust smell on occassion Drips a little oil Has SU's Goes 0-60 in what, 8-9 seconds Clock doesn't work, but always reads the time at 2:40 Has a crappy radio that looks great Has crappy speakers that don't sound great That my left arm is raised when resting on the door with the window down Has only one side mirror Has all those beautiful round gauges Has the most beautiful body a car could have That it says "Datsun" on the side's and front That it says 240z on the back Has a 4spd Has original wheel covers and of course many many more, but you get the idea. Last night in the Z I couldn't help but start thinking about all the things listed above and how much I really love this old car.
  25. Hey Steve, Thanks for the advice, I have already scuffed and primed with plastic primer as you suggested. I am anxious to get these painted but our weather has been horrible, I guess I could plug back in the garage heaters..... The vinyl turned out pretty good, on the passenger side trans tunnel it still has a few wrinkles that I need to work on. It was harder than I thought working with the contact cement and getting everything positioned correctly, but it sure looks better than before. Here's a few shots of the progress. When the entire process is complete I'll start another thread with the before and after pictures. Hope things are well with you, Cheers, Randy PS...Read about you in this months Nissan Sport, I didn't know you were famous! .......
