Okay so I've finally rebuilt my engine to my 280z and it actually runs. The only problem is the PO had the vacuum lines so jerry-rigged that I have no idea what goes to where. Most of them were not connected in the first place when I got the car. I have searched the Forums found the HVAC diagram and I have the FSM and it really doesn't seem to help too much. Does anyone have a better picture?

Well I took off my panel the other day and ground it down to bear metal, I'm planning to repaint the whole thing, and it looks like my PO had the same problem. They neutralized the rust and put fiberglass behind the rust holes. Does anyone think that should just get rid of the fiberglass and weld metal back into the rust spots or will the fiberglass hold? I've never used it for a repair. P.S. sorry for sniping the thread.
  3. Anyone know where I might be able to start looking other than MSA for a new clutch plate/flywheel for my 78' 280? I'd like to get better than stock.

Okay more info. I just replaced the head gasket and head. Gasket was bad an head was cracked, Already took the plugs back out. But I think that I have a slight problem. The oil does smell a tiny bit like gas. So what should I do now?

Okay so Sblake and I have been shooting PM's back and forth about my fuel system and troubleshooting but now I have an even bigger problem that I'd like some input on. My Engine is locked, the tranny is in neutral and the starter is out. the battery has a full charge and we cant crank it by hand. Now heres the kicker. If I was to wait about 2-4 hours I could go back out there hook everything up and it will try and turn over but no gas. And that is why I have been chatting with Sblake. Anyone got any ideas? Christian

Found my head got it installed now I have a completely new problem. Thanks for all the offers guys.
  7. Well if you want To you can take it to the community college in Albany. I don't know what we would charge you but I'm a student there and I'm sure we are looking for stuff to do and compared to this 67 chevelle we have sitting there your car would be a cakewalk. I'd do your bodywork but I don't have the time right now to do it myself.

Okay so I have finally gotten my Z mostly put back together and it starts. The problem is it wont stay running. I'm getting way too much fuel and its flooding my engine. Is there anyway that I can turn down the amount of fuel that is being injected without having a program for it? And if I have to use a program is anyone in Oregon willing to come over to my place and help me if they have the program cuz I wont be able to get it to a shop. Also is there anything else that might be the problem with it on why the cylinders may be flooding? I'd really like to get it running....Constantly Thanks
  9. So I got my new head for my 280Z removed the head just like my manual said with paying close attention to pushing that wedge into the timing chain so as to not lose the tention. Heres my problem now, I can't get the cam sproket back onto the cam because the chain isn't long enough. I was wondering if there is anyway to adjust the tention without having to rip out the engine and remove a bunch of stuff. I really need to understand how the Tentioner works.

So yeah the only thing that is keeping my z off the road right now is the connector that goes between the EGR and the EGR pipe broke and I can't find a replacement. I would like to know if there is anyway to bypass it Because I seen headers that don't have to hole for it and I'd just buy one of those. Or if there is anyone that has one that I can buy off them. I really need help on this one.
  11. Yeah mine kinda needs to be put back together but once I do I'm going to take it to school kill the rust, give her a new paint job and have fun.

I'm an autobody student at my local community college and I found my 1978 280 for 200 dollars. One problem, the head is cracked and I dont know where to get a new one. Oh well it should still be fun to work on.

So I live in Albany I was just wondering if you guys had anything planned to do later on. My Z currently doesnt work because I just got it but I'd like to meet with some of you and maybe soak up some more ideas or just get help in general and maybe my car will join you guys sometime.
  16. So I found one sweet deal in my Z for 200 bucks. The thing is I'm currently an autobody student so I wanted a car that I could use as a project. Thus the Z. After my autobody classes are over I'm going to go into automotive itself. Anyway thats brief history on my Z. Its a 1978 280 and I'm having to replace the head but as I'm doing it I'm running into alot of problems. Heres some so far. I broke the throttle return spring cuz it was rusted out. Various bolts and nuts have been broke/rounded But the biggest problem is the EGR Valve. I bent the piping going from it into the exhaust manafold trying to the pipe off so I could get the exhaust off the head. I'm thinking about getting an after market header for it but they dont seem to have anything for the EGR Valve so I'm just wondering how important it really is. Please help.
