  1. Why not just pimp out the RB25DET? Those engines are pretty capable themselves, stock.
  2. Yeah, I got the tag and am going to find out where they live. Not really going to small claims court. That is more so my mom's decision, and I know that she won't. But I do want to at least know where they live. I just hope that I remember the tag correctly. But yea, the animals are always a part of the family here. They are outside dogs, but when the weather is too hot, or too cold and every night they come inside. Sometimes I let one of them sleep with me too. Sucks about the cat. We had a cat that was about 14 when it died. That sucked because one day I came home from school. Noticed that the cat wasn't around. Trying calling my mom a few times but no pick up. Then when she comes home she had him in a box. He got some kind of disease/sickness that was killing him, so my mom put him down. This year has been a crazy year for me. I can usually tell from day 1 of a new year how things are going to be for the rest of it. So far things are about in line still. School and job hunting has been very difficult this year. Dog died just now, and even at the beginning on this new year my Grandma died. Still got a crazy year a head of me/us.
  3. Her name was Daisy. She got hit today by a car while crossing the street. The dude drove off, so I ran inside to get my keys and tracked them down. Yelled at them for a minute or so and got their license plate number just increase because they were unwilling to give any of their information. So I just went ahead and got all of it instead, stupid people. Anyways. Raced her to the vet and after about an hour they put her to sleep. Internal bleeding, lungs were collapsing and her left leg would have been cut off. She was pretty messed up. She did really good through the pain though and was being a trooper through it all. Lasted for about 2 hours after the strike. Sucks she had to go. I never really liked her until recently. She was only about a year old, but once she got out of her puppy days she was a lot cooler dog. RIP
  4. If I just decide to get a cam kit from thezstore, is there any machine work that still needs to be done, or am I able to just take everything off and install the cam kit without having to worry?
  5. I had thought that E31's were supposed to be the shi/t, especially for the racing community from the research that I have done. Is it because just to be street able it needs the chambers enlarged? I think that I will just stick with my L24. Will be able to get everything set up faster. Guess that I will just do the valve job, and get a Stage II or III cam in there. I have always liked the idea of an L24 stroker with the LD28 diesel crank. I know that it is supposed to be an extremely expensive route, but it is a route less taken which I like.
  6. Said that he doesn't do machine work. I am going to call him tomorrow to see if he could refer me to someone. Does anyone know of any good shops in Atlanta that know L engines?
  7. So what would you suggest then? L28 w/ E31 head that will have ported valves, and larger chamber to make up for machine work or L24 w/ E31 heat that will have ported valves and either a stage II or stage III cam? I'm still having a hard time, and am going to try to get this engine in the shop within a week or two. I think that I will go ahead and just stick with what I already got. Seems like it might also be a little cheaper too anyways and I could always get an L28 block later, or stroke my L24.
  8. Find out about the class you would like to enter first. Then build your car from there. www.thezstore.com will have a lot to offer. Just do some research and work from there. There is a lot that you can do to a Z. You can always get the engine machined, stroked, bored, and get a racing cam. Will you go carbs, maybe tripple webbers? or go fuel injected?, dizzy upgrade, cooling upgrade, 280zxt oil pump, new pumps all a around Then get a nice 5-speed tranny from a 1980zx, a LSD that is at least 3.9 though a R200 4.11 would be great. Toyota 4x4 vented calipers from the front, rear disc conversion in the back. Racing suspension, new bushings, new anti-sway bars top and bottom for front and back. Body panels, spoilers, anything to improve aerodynamics, carbon fiber hood, ect. The list can just keep going and going. If you are doing racing you are going to want to get some nice cream of the crop parts when you do order parts. Don't settle for the cheaper part, get what needs to be got. The Z car, even in racing forum seems to be one of the cheapest to work on and easiest to work on as long as you have one in some good condition. A Z car imo is a great choice, but will require a lot of money. Though, what I would try to do is find a 240z. They are the lightest Z so will help out a lot there. Though, these are your main options. Pimp out motor, maybe even a pimped out L28 Find a L28 Turbo motor Or Swap in a V8 or RB26DETT/RB25DET
  9. Mark, I got my numbers from "The Datsun Z Garage." It is a good point about the gas. Will have to consider that. We have 93 octane here, but even then sometimes my Z would diesel. Will have to think this one over. What kind of compression could I expect with a Stage II or III cam on the L24 with increased valve size? How would that compare to the L28? How about performance wise? Would it be just a little power difference, or could you notice it. I could always put in a fuel cut off switch if I half too, so dieseling would be too much of a problem to fix. Which would be more streetable? Give me plenty of power and performance when I want it, but also give me a nice time around town. Having a rough idle is fine, but being crazy would be a bit much.
  10. What is your guys take on this? I might have the chance to pick up an 82' L28 engine for $300. Think that is a good price? I am going to be finding out more information sometime soon. Already emailed the guy. Just would like to see what is your guys take on an E31/L28 set up. It seems like the compression is way up there near 11:1 with a little searching. If I get this, is it really going to turn it into more of a unstreetable car or what? Would this be a better option then getting a Stage III cam on my L24? Would save me a few pennies. Though how would a cam do on an L28? The Z I am wanting to get to the point were it is my daily car, and I want it to be powerful with an L engine N/A, but not too annoying to drive as a daily car. That high compression kind of scares me a little. Already with my current setup, it can/will already diesel a good bit with a little advance in the timing. If I went L28, having that high compression, would I need to add a octane booster each fill up to prevent it dieseling on me? What is your guys take on this and what might be the best route to go with my E31. L24 with Stage III? or L28?
  11. How do you know if the module died? I did the swap in mine and have the E12-80 module. I think that it does just great, and is SUPER easy to get all together. Though the car acts a little funny past 70mph and I think that it might be the dizzy. I used to be able to pull to 90/95 without a hitch, but now it hates going past 70mph without losing all power basically.
  12. How do those compare to say a cam from thezstore? I am thinking of getting a Stage III kit from them.
  13. Well, would there be any gains to switch out the stock air filter and have each S.U. have their own exposed air filter with ram horns?
  14. That 865 number is a no go. Been disconnected, but the Toll Free number does work. 1-800-247-2793
  15. You might be thinking about E85. E10 is a hell of a lot better then the chemicals that they use to achieve the given octane, give no fuel economy differences, and ethanol is more so a "neutral" fuel. The type of grain used is actually not feed to humans in anyway. It is only the kind that is used to feed animals. The price of gasoline as increased the price of corn based food WAY more then ethanol has or ever will. Corn is/was just the short term use, and many other ways of making ethanol are being researched and even used today. Garbage is already being used, and switch grass is supposed to be the next ethanol maker.
  16. Now, I am currently eye balling a Stage III cam. Now, can I have my current cam machined to the Stage III specs, or is that going the wrong direction?
  17. Well, my boss/friend owns a Datsun pickup truck. I am not sure what kind, year, or model. Though, I popped open the hood and was rather surprised at what I saw. At first, I had thought that it was a V8. Spark plug wires were traveling to both sides of the engine, and the dizzy had 9 plugs in it. I was shocked to notice a Datsun with a stock engine (I do believe) with a V8 in it! So then as I investigated even further, I only noticed exhaust and intake only going/coming from 1 side. So then I was even more surprised to know that this had two spark plugs per cylinder which is rather surprising now that some auto companies are starting to use 2 spark plugs per cylinder now. Which engine might this be? I would like to know a little more about this guy.
  18. Anyone have an L28 bottom end that they want to sell? :devious:
  19. Oh, only 25lbs? I wonder where the hell I got 60/70 then. hmmm.... Will have to sit on this one. Think the extra dollars are well worth the R200?
  20. Where the heck do I find these? Also, where can I find some dimensions of the valves and intake/exhaust ports on the L28 and L24? I have heard that you can drop L28 Valves into an L24 with a 0.010" bore but I haven't been able to find information on ANYTHING or even find the original source that which I read this information from. I can't find the valve dimensions or port dimensions for the L24 vs L28, or even find the 280z valves to purchase! Actually, I did find some exhaust valves for the 280z over at autozone, but I think that they were charging $18 for just 1 valve. I have the E31 head btw.
  21. Smoother feeling when you shift? How does that happen? Also, wouldn't a 3.9 R180 give the same kind of power as a 3.9 R200? The LSD though, wouldn't that minimize the power differences from each tire, so the tires are more so pushing the same kind of power compared to a non-LSD? Also help with a more uniformed tire tread loss for the back two tires? I think that I am getting my differentials confused. R180 vs R200 3.9 in a straight away, would you be able to tell a difference? What about cornering and even fuel economy?
  22. Well, what is your budget? Say you only have $1,500. You can get an SR20DET for that amount with tranny and push 250hp stock. An L26 with $1,500 put into it will NEVER come close to 250hp. For $1,500 you can even find a decent old 350 and transmission. Then put the motor in yourself. You would need a little bit more money for some custom work, but it won't be all that bad. If you want to keep your motor, make a list of all what you want to do to it. Even if you are over budget, it will not hurt to have the vehicle sit for a few extra days/weeks for you to get the money. You will be much happier, rather then rushing the job with a limited budget. This is basically what I am doing. I only have so much money, so I am completely stripping the car inside and out, and as I get money, pieces will be put back together.
  23. Is LSD worth it? I am thinking that I might just get a R180 instead of a R200. You can get the same gear ratios on a R180 to an R200 and from what I hear, save 60lbs~70lbs from an R200. They are also a ton cheaper. I can see the advantages of having a LSD, but will it make THAT much of a difference compared to the extra cost and added weight?
  24. Filling up in the morning when it is colder doesn't make much since. The tanks are underground where the temperature is a constant temperature. I can see why these guys do their own temperature compensation though. All day they have trucks running around and HUGE tanks above ground that are subjected to the weather. They do have pimp lines but they are underground, but then come back above ground once the pipes are on their property. I can understand fulling up on slow and with more gas in the tank to prevent vapor loss, but I doubt that it will make that much of a difference, even over time. Leave a red gas container outside for a few days and you won't even notice a difference in how much gas was evaporated. It is cool that BP doesn't import from the Middle Easy. I buy all of my gas from BP, and BP only. Don't buy from Exxon because of their redicolous profits compared to everyone else, Shell and Chevron are EXPENSIVE, and Citgo is Venzy gas. I know that places like BP are trying to make a difference, and rather support BP for doing so then Exxon or Chevron for not doing that so much. I know that they have already started using E10 in all of their gas. I know that everyone will, but the big guys sure are taking their dandy time. If Shell could offer me cheaper gas, and less of it from the Middle east, I might support them more as they too are doing a lot to help.
  25. Well, I everything taken off of the motor. Going to be renting a engine hoist from Autozone here soon to get my motor pulled. I know that I want to get my head taken in so that the valves can be ported for 280z valves, and am thinking that I am just going to take the entire engine in to get machined, plus go a head and get the carbs rebuilt. Though, I want to take my engine to a place were they know what they are doing, especially with the L series engine. Does anyone know of a place around here that specializes in rebuilding and machining L engines? Atlanta, Nashville, Knoxville, Birmingham, ect. is all fine by me.
