hello all. question here , should I use a motor flush , the car sat for roughly 1-2 years , it has oil in it now and the car is running but I haven't driven it yet , was gonna change the oil and didn't know it would doing more harm to use and engine flush to ge the sludge out , I am gonna replace the sending unit and clean the cam oiler bar after I flushed the engine, Also anyone heard of putting tranny fluid in the crankcase to loosen up that stuff? I honestly don't know if it is that dirty show 84k on the odo and the papers the previous owner had suggest this is true as well , thanks

Well just for your interest....i recentally pulled apart a engine that had been never been apart and used constatly for 20+ years and it was nice and clean...

If the oil is still nice and thin then i wouldnt bother...personally anyway

A motor flush is designed to break down / disolve built up sludge, and could possibly dislodge any large oily deposits that has been built up. Start by pulling the valve cover off. Inspect the rockers and the top of the head. Look for brown tar looking deposits / residue. It will flake off with a screwdriver. If your engine has these deposits then don't use the flush. These deposits will break free and possibly plug an oil passage or bind your oil pump (a rebuild will be necessary). Better than using the flush would be to change the oil / filter run for about 50 miles then change again. This should remove any old nasty oil.

The tranny fluid is an old mechanics trick. The lighter weight oil (usually 20wt) will get into those small areas and loosen them up. Used to loosen up noisy rockers. Tranny fluid also has more detergents than engine oil and will clean up some minor residue.

what ever u do...dont use marvel mystry oil..i used that and it started smoking...porin oil through the outtake//good luck
