Will This Sway Bar Fit A 240Z?

Featured Replies

Here's a sway bar I found for sale and need to know if it will fit the REAR of my early 240Z (8/70 production date). Also if you can give an idea how much it should cost would be great.

It was advertised as a Z sway bar, I can not remember what year now.

That's ok though, the auction ended weeks ago.

I can recommend the MSA rear bar for the early car. It fit well on my 72. I did require the use of a lift to install it. I also changed the supplied hardware with beefier stuff. It's a bit of a hassle, but it's worth it. To install it you have to replicate the mounting points of the later cars. So, youv'e got to drill the floor. The bolts supplied were not long enough with out washers and I wanted BIG THICK washers to spread the load. I also bought "Nylock" nuts to get it all tight over the years.

By the Way, as I recall, It looked very much like the one in your photo.

Victor,

You say the ones from MSA mounted to "stock" location yet I was under the impression that they mounted to the diff hanger. Kinda "backwards" Has anyone else bought and installed a rear bar on a 70-72?

Thanks,

Dave

there are 2 types of sway bars for the rear of hte z:

the msa bar mounts to the body behind the rear seats. holes need to be drilled

the other type (forget the make) sits 180* rotated, and mounts to the rear crossmember behind the diff. The one that supports the rear A arm bushings.

I took some photos last night.

Here's the mounting for the bar,

Some Z's came without the bracket for a rear sway bar.I found this out when I got a msa/front/rear sway kit. Thanks victor for the photo so I can see what I need to do.Texasz I thought of putting the front only on until I got the rear info I needed.I was told that they are made to work inpairs. So even if it fit your car it may cause poor results with the front unit.I'm sure someone will put more lite on this.

What I want to do is put a 1" sway bar up front and a 7/8" in the rear. This seems to be the way that they are paired up and re certainly more substantial than stock. Also when I do this I plan on putting urethane bushings on.
