Transmission close ratio vent tube direction

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Happy New Year! wasn't smart enough to take a photo of vent tube arrow direction on the 5 peed trans, assume pointing to the rear like the diff?

Also I'm not seeing any service data in the FSM for the drive shaft slip yoke. Should it be greased?

Thanks,

I've pondered that problem in the past. I'm pretty sure that all arrows are meant to be pointed forward. But I think that the effect is the same forward or backward. Sideways changes the direction of the holes inside though.

Thank you, buttoning up the trans re-install wanted to make sure. Not a job I want to do again.

Any advise on the drive shaft slip yoke. Grease inside on the spines? nothing in the FSM on reinstallation.

The splines are exposed to transmission fluid, no need for grease. Probably a bad idea anyway, since the synchros only want to see proper transmission fluid. Not sure if a bit of grease would have much effect but why chance it.

Do smear some oil on the seal and maybe the outside of the slip part of the slip yoke so the seal doesn't get damaged on insertion.
