July 4, 20168 yr comment_498136 I put 2 four inch Pyles from walmart behind the headrest on my '77. Fit perfect and cost $30 or something close plus the oe front speaker, sounds good sitting in the garage but fire it up with the header and 2.5" exhaust from msa and I just as well sing to myself, "hold me closer, Tony Danza" by Elton John. July 4, 20168 yr Author comment_498138 seeing as I am completely stock on the exhaust I think I will be fine. The pod speakers I have are smaller and cheap and work ok. July 4, 20168 yr Author comment_498139 Questions: am I missing a passenger side speaker connection on my 75 280z? I recall looking for bullet connectors when I last had the panel off (rear by tank filler). If the harness did not come with a provision for a passenger side speaker, as standard I have to assume it was an option. If so can some confirm the factory location and lead dress and wire colors for the option. Thanks Dave Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/55750-passenger-side-speaker-75-280z/#findComment-498139 Share on other sites
July 5, 20168 yr Author comment_498156 answering some of my own questions the speaker for the driver side wraps around to the passenger side, terminates at a connecter under the passenger seat. The wiring diagram shows to unused sections of the body harness plug, opposite the W and WB for the driver side speaker. Seems like it would be easy enough to activate those for a X and XB wires for the new speaker passenger side, would still like to know the X color if anyone knows what that is. the wiring diagram does NOT show provisions at the radio plug from the console harness for extra speaker wires to be added. Not to mention I don't even know if my car still has that plug since its an aftermarket radio, and some hack may have just cut it off. So I may have to engineer an addition to the console harness back to the Plug under the passenger seat, as well as see what kind of radio plug I currently have if any. July 30, 20168 yr Author comment_499832 ok so the speakers I used for the install sound way too bass, like all the highs are gone. sounded fine until I put the trim panels back up, so I assume its just some acoustic anomaly that will need some better matched speakers for the OE install location. Next up I have some coax speakers on the way with a tweet to see if that helps. Plus I will reinstall the OE speaker for comparison. If anyone has an OE speaker that you like to sell let me know (in case they simply work better). August 1, 20168 yr Author comment_500064 update, re install the OE hitachi, no better maybe even a little less bright sounding. Now I have to wait for some coax speakers (has tweet in the center) to see if that is any better.
