Posted April 3, 200322 yr comment_32515 Hello all,Can someone tell me if the strut housings are the same in the '71 and the '75ish?I have a trip coming up, got the car aligned and they tell me that the front passenger strut is tweaked 2 degrees. It's no suprise, them previous owner said that he smacked a curb on that side...They look the same but figured I'd ask to make sure before I tear into it, I have to leave on Sunday...Thanks all, have a great day!Brian Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/5458-front-strut-housingneed-advice/ Share on other sites
April 3, 200322 yr comment_32518 Nope, sorry. The 280 strut housing is longer and also larger in diameter..... Not sure about the 260's though... don't know if they changed prior to 75 or not.... April 3, 200322 yr comment_32567 260's will fit, but you may have to change both sides.I think the same would apply for 280's? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/5458-front-strut-housingneed-advice/#findComment-32567 Share on other sites
April 3, 200322 yr comment_32570 You could use the 280 strut housings, but to get the car level you'd have to either go to coil-overs or remove and lower the stock perch. The front end would end up over an inch higher than the stock height, and that would really make it look odd to say the least.... Still have to go to the microfiche to verify, but the 70-73 strut housings are the same, but yet early 74's and the 74.5-78 were all different. So, not knowing what the difference are, seems there may have been 3 different strut housings, but for sure the 74.5-78 are not the same as the earlier one.
