73 240Z - Removing Trip Meter Mileage Reset Cable from Dash

Featured Replies

I have removed the dash and removed all gauges/connections. The only thing I can't remove is the knob/cable that runs to the speedometer for the trip meter mileage reset. Can't remove the plastic knob that is on the underside of the dash that would allow the cable to be free to be removed. Any help/suggestions appreciated. Thanks, Bill.

There is a small screw at the back of the speedometer where the reset cable sheath goes into it's holder. LOOSEN it (not remove) and you should be able to remove the cable.

The cable knob can be removed by pulling straight down from the dash.

OK. That was easy enough. I had been trying to everything but a straight pull. Thanks. Sending dash off to Just Dashes. Bill

my reset knob doesn't work - turn it and it moves the number drums slightly - could it be the set screw missing?

Yes. It could also be that it has loosened, but is still there. It's tricky to get your hand back there, and even trickier to try to get a screwdriver on to it to tighten it, but it isn't impossible. Otherwise, you have to remove the speedometer from the dash.
