Oil Smells Like Gas.

Featured Replies

Why would the oil in my motor smell like gas?

Car runs fine it seems and doesnt smoke from what I can see.

Sometimes I can smell gas fumes from engine when I first start it up.

Engine/Trans hums and lightly vibrates at 3,000RPMs when in gear but out of gear ints fine. Im guessing this problem might be caused from low gear oil?

Please help thanks.

If you're using a mechanical fuel pump, the rubber diaphragm can crack and allow fuel into the oil. Your caris a 280, so that's probably not the case though.

I'm sure others will chime in.

A ruptured diaphram in the fuel pressure regulator?

Pull the vacuum line off of the FPR and see if there's gas in it.

On second thought, that would just throw (a lot of) extra gas into the intake. You'd probably be blowing black smoke out the exhaust.

What do your plugs look like?

Cold start injector not shutting off?

Regardles to culprit don't let it go on very long. Get it solved!!

Yeah, cold start injector -- possible! Mine was sticking open at one time.

Maybe one of the 6 main injectors sticking open and fouling its cylinder? Check all of your plugs to see if any of them are fuel-soaked.
