Where to get 5 speed fiber ring Syncro?

Featured Replies

I have a 77-79 wide ratio early five speed that won't go/stay in fith gear. From what I have read that usually signifies a bad syncros, gear/bearing free play, or ball and detent spring.

Unfortunately, the kits available from Drivetrain.com and other google searches don't contain the 5th gear fiber ring syncro. I spent awhile at the dealership and they couldnt help either.

Has anyone got a lead on that part or will I be stuck rebuilding one of my 3 four speeds?

On a side note, I think I have the stock 3.364 rear end and I guess the five speed gearing isn't favorable in that combination.

Eddie Radatz or John Williams in Atlanta might know...search their names here for phone numbers.

They are still available although you will probably have to buy a kit that comes with more than judt the part you need. That's good though, it allows you a chance to have everything taken care of while it is on the bench. The same thing happened to me and my mechanic rebuilt it for me. He races 510's on the SCCA circuit so he knew exactly where to go to get what he needed. Try AAMCO. They should have enough parts suppliers to get what you need.

I was planning on buying a full set of bearings and syncros as is. I will dig into looking up those numbers after work. Thanks for your help.
