Body work

The Z is in the shop stripped of its paint.

Will post pictures of progress.

The biggest surprise was the right rear quarter.

It was free of rust but not free of previous damage and needs to be replaced.

I need to find one.

If anyone knows of one in the northeast USA I could pick it up.

I also have shipping address in New York State.

  • 3 weeks later...

Ebay came through with a rust free quarter.

New fenders from Nissan.

Close to final blocking and sanding.

First pictures are of donor quarter panel from Washington State.

We in Ontario are amazed at the condition of parts when salt is not a factor:stupid:

The quarter is lined up and tacked into place and should be welded in place by now:)

My brother Pete's shop.

5 Star Collision in Grimsby Ont.

I have been doing a lot of the unskilled work and leaving the skilled work to the expert.

When you peel a 40year old car down to bare metal it's history is exposed.

We found and repaired some old shoddy body work.

I will post some more pictures when I have a chance

This is my brothers shop and we have an arrangement:cool:

I bought new fenders from Nissan and the quarter panel myself.

All surprises have been addressed:stupid:

It is hard to put a real value on this due to the fact that my time is not factored in.

Most shops would rather do collision work and will do restoration work on an hourly basis do to all the unknown issues that will arise on a forty year old vehicle.

Even so my car is not a show car but a driver. It will be a nice driver.

This type of project is a labour(Canadian spelling:beer:)of love not for financial gain.

Our old Z's(pronounced "zeds") are fun to drive and draw lots of attention where ever you go.
