Just curious, I've seen a few posts about upgrading to CV half shafts but haven't found any pictures. My car came with an R200 and the 4-bolt-flange U-joint shafts - are CV units something else?

Constant velocity joints. Popular upgrade for people with lots of power (turbo, V8) who have issues with breaking U-joints.

CV's have all but supplanted U-Joints for most half-shaft applications.

Here's an image showing the joint itself after the dust boot has been removed.
