Ho ho... my L28 is at last in my 240Z, together with a nice 5 speed!

The engine is running sort of OK as far as I can tell... I have no shaft yet so testing the engine with really unsupportive neighbor is difficult. It's smouth and not leaking.

My question: is it mandatory to use the second dowel on a new timing chain kit with a fast road cam? I have read so and would appreciate if I could cut this corner :squareeye But I guess the 4° of timing are going to be missed power wise, no?

My spec are:

F54

Flat tops

1 mm skimed head

1 mm shims

Fast road kent camshaft

280ZX dist

6/2/1 and 1/2 exhaust

You need to time or "degree" the cam. It's not as simple as advancing or retarding x degrees. When you get a new cam it will come with a card that shows when the valve is supposed to open to get the intended performance from the cam. You can use that information and follow the procedure here to get the most from it:

Ok, stupid question time...

Why do the valves in the post on the link at hybridz only have single flimsy looking valve springs? My 240 has massive dual springs on the valves...

(I know because I about killed myself putting them on.)

Those are test springs.

I understand that it's critical for a race or over enthusiast builder... I was just wondering about this general rule of going to the second dowel with a hotter cam??????

Well I tried anyway, it's only a 15 min job :nervous:

It's running better, and goes a lot faster, I can do the 0 to 60 unhappy neighbours in less than 6 seconds

So I guess it's a mandatory thing at the end :knockedou
