Front Grille Question

Featured Replies

I've got a '72 that needs the front grille replaced. A local salvage yard has a '73 with a decent grille on it. Will a '73 front grille fit on a '72. I'm assuming that it will. Just want to make sure.

Not sure what you're referring to, but the salvage yard z is white, and of coarse the grille is black. If your referring to my avatar, my '72 is blue.

Actually, here in North America the grill for a '73 240Z was a different part number from the '70-72 240Z grill. I'm not sure what the difference is, it may be minor enough that it will work OK. But they are not the same.

The lower mounting points changed, the side mounts on the chassis were "L" shaped bits of metal spot welded to the chassis. On the earlier 240z they are like an upside down "L" on the later version (whenever the change was) they changed them to point up.

You can use the grill mounting brackets off the original grill buy drilling out the rivets and swapping them over to the later grill. I fixed one of my broken 240z grills with some parts from a 260Z and used the 240Z brackets on the 260z vertical bars.

Thanks a lot Arne and Mr. Camo. I appreciate your responses. Now I know what to expect if I choose the get the 73 grille.
