Just wondering if anyone out there has ever used teh current plugs in teh harness, and replaced all the wires by hand?

Is this possible? or just pull your hair out crazy? Under my passenger side it looks like a nightmare. who ever had this car before me did like a million splices on the original setup. and half of the wires in there have plugs, but do nothing and go nowhere (GNDN)...

opinions?

On the 280Z, You could probably re-use the plug shells, if you carefully removed all the pins, and got new ones, which I know you can do. I would prefer to get new wires with the same color codes as the old tho.

Some of the plugs, like in the engine area, have the wires moulded in, so you would have to splice into the wire itself there.

I just recently replaced the entire wireing in my '73 with a loom from a '72 . I don't think I would attempt to do a complete rewire from scratch , that is build my own . And the pre '74z are simple compaired to the rest of the Zs . I am not saying that it cannot be done but it would be one hell of a undertaking . See if you can find a used unmolested loom from a donr car . What year Z are you talking about ? Gary

It took me a good 2 weeks on my last 240 several years back to unwrap 2 molested harnesses, trace out, check continuity on and label every wire, and then rewrap. I've seen a place online that sells the blade inserts and colored wire, and have been seriously considering making my own, by replacing one wire at a time. A lot of my connections are corroded and my taillight wires are black due to a burned fusebox at one point in the cars life.

I'm guessing it would take about a month of work, a few hours at a time. It wouldn't be for the faint of heart though.
