Cleaning Control Knobs

Featured Replies

You know- those knobs with the cut in letters and graphics like on the windshield washer switch, trip odomoter reset, ilumination reostat...

What kind of cleaning solution works best for you? I ussume you're using a troothbrush to get into the grooves. I like to use the orange cleaner from the dollar store for everything, but havent gotten to try it yet; only used water so far.

Also what wouldn't you use, or what stuff would dissolve the white paint?

thx

i used a very soft bristled toothbrush. soaking the part in a mild dish detergent solution (warm not hot water) for 15 mins to help loosen the crud seemed to really help.

i avoided any harsher cleaners (gojo, formula 409, fantastik, etc) so as not to loosen the bond of the inlaid paint.

i also tried adding a little bleach, very little, to the solution and was quite satisfied with the results.

Dilute bleach sounds like a good idea. Even after using the soapy solution, mine were a little yellow.

thx

Warm water, a drop of dish soap & a soft bristle tooth brush cleaned mine right up.

No need for anything stronger than warm water, a wee bit of soap, a toothbrush, and some elbow grease........
