Best way to tell a calif car

Featured Replies

Do you mind posting your VIN? Maybe it's a CA car, but with non-CA emmissions, like Federal or something.

BTW, I got the VIN code information from the Haynes book. The VB catalog doesn't have it.

thx

Were there emissions specific for California cars in 1973? I got a shipping papers with my 71 and first transfer of tag knowing where it came into the states at and where it was purchased and so forth but it could stay in Cali only for one year and be in Maine since you never know. Again the condition as in the body is key.

I got that information from the Haynes book. It's supposed to be part of the VIN tag.

Obviously, it should be printed on the car's original paperwork that it has California emmissions equipment.

I and telling you, from experience, both with my car and other California cars, that the letter is not part of the VIN tag.

I happen to know that the '76 Z came with a catalytic converter in CA, but nowhere else. The driver's side sunshield is a way to tell. If it has clear plastic saying it has a cat, it's from CA. Just my 2c.

No, I believe all US model 240Z's had air pumps.

And yes, '70's had them.
