Taillights(emergency)

Featured Replies

Oh k i got my 73 z (thanks texasz you da man bruddah) and ive got it in tip top shape everything on it is working great, except for my taillights. The hazzards turn signals(front and back) brake lights and reverse lights work. But i cant for the life of me figure out how to get my night driving taillights to work. The fuses are good the wiring is good what am i missing here fellahs??

First, open the tail light covers and check that:

1. the Parking Light element in the bulb is not broken / burnt out.

2. you are in fact, getting power to the bulb.

Then we can start giving you all sorts of suggestions, like how to remove all of the wiring, changing your alternator and how to convert it to power steering.

Is it just the tailights, or are all the running lights not working, ie side marker and front lower lights under the bumper? If its all the lights, it could be either the fuse (even though it looks ok, I've had the end cap loosen up and seperate inside , check for brown ooze around the cap)

If it is all the lights, and you've replaced the fuse and still no go, its probably the swich on the steering column itself. I had both problems in the past. I took apart my column switch and fixed it myself.

Good luck.

Are you SURE the wiring is good? Make sure you check very carefully on the sockets as corrosion will also stop lights working.

yeah all wiring is good, all lights work except the brake lights and the brake light switch appears to be new.

Aren't those globes the twin filment ones?

I'd be checking that you have indeed got the correct globes in!
