Got her started, have a question

Featured Replies

Hey guys, i finally started my car but it took alot of gas, i had to floor it a couple times. Is this because i had just replaced the bone-dry tank? thanks alot guys.

Just because you had to floor it to keep it running doesn't mean it was actually using a lot of gas. It could be that the timing is off, the carbs need adjusting, etc. If you don't already have one I'd suggest getting one of the aftermarket (Haynes, etc.) manuals.

I actually just started it again, it needed less gas (this is a 79 280zx fuel injected) but it ran fine without throttle after it turned over.

When that car is right it need no gas to start. By 'more gas or less gas', I assume you mean that you are stepping on the gas pedal to start the car. It has a cold start circuit and the fuel pump is self priming.

Could it be that the car preferred a bit of gravy with it's Kibbles 'n Bits?

My 79 ZX is not self priming..

That car starts up like a charm every time even if its been sitting for 3-4 weeks :D

Datsun Fever - your car could be low on compression.. hence why it takes a while to kick into action :)

I guess we haven't established what kind or year Z he owns.

Not in his initial post but after I mentioned that the carbs might need adjusting he replied that it's a fuel injected '79 280ZX at which point I basically turned clueless.

Is your 79 ZX f.i. or carbs? I only ask because I don't know at which point the Aussie cars became f.i.

On my 83 Turbo, when I ran out of gas, trying to get it started again was a bear. It would crank until the battery was nearly flat before the system was fully primed again.
