what about the new z's?
My opinion of the 350 is changing the more I see them driving about. The convertable would be my choice as the lines look better to me. However, I must say that the front and rear still look like smashed in coke cans. As for Evo's and STi's. It sometimes appears that there are as many STI's and EVO's in New Zealand as there are Toyota Corollas. Japanese imported cars are very cheap with boy racers buying them for little money. We have tons of GTR's here as well so anything that stands out of the crowd like the 350Z is a welcomed changed. You can get 2 stoked R32 GTR's here for the price of 1 new 350z. I even saw a De Tamaso Pantera yesterday...now there is a car!!!!!

my doors open while driving
You need to move the lock plate out a little bit so that the door catch seats correctly. Shouldn't take too much effort. Your door should close with little force. Do you have a manual? If not then maybe a good idea to goto your library and get one out for a while.

My BEST Datsun Day.
Mine doesn't have front or rear repeaters but it does have a plastic blank plate over the side light switch locattion in the centre console. Mine also doesn't have the rear demister.

My BEST Datsun Day.
Looks as though this Zed is one of the late Series 1 cars that had bits from a series 2. I'm not too sure about the subtle changes but I know that the series 1 speedo starts at 20mph not 10mph as this one does. Maybe he changes the early speedo for a later model??? Maybe "all seeing/reading guru" Alan T can help shed soem much needed light on the subject???? What say you oh great one???

rust on the frame rail reinf
Mine looked like Swiss cheese. That has happened because the underseal didn't get between the two pieces of steel. I have drilled a inspection hole in the foot well so I can squirt fisholine down the inside every 2 years...maybe a good idea for you also.

Tatoo's
It's all about choice. You control what you want to look at, just like watching the TV or reading a magazine. If you don't like what you see, hear or read then stop looking, listening or reading. Do something else. Easy. Don't like what's on TV then turn it off or just change the channel. Life is very easy really. Great pics guys.....my sense of humour to a T

1970 240Z Rear Hatch Vent Plastic
Not sure where you can get the funnels as they are so old. Since the plastic becomes so brittle, they are nearly impossible to remove without rendering them useless. Mainly due to UV damage. Have you tried your local Nissan dealer, it is a long shot but they will have the old parts book somewhere and may be able to order a set from Japan if they have any. As for the drain hoses, you can use any flexipipe with the same ID and OD. Your local electrical wholesaler will carry some betaflex that might be the same dims. Just make sure that you seal the end that attaches to the funnel. You can still get the hatch grills if you need those. If you find a source for new funnels, be sure to return here and let all of us know. Most series one Zed owners will need replacement funnels at some stage. Good luck in your search:classic:

HELP: diff removal with drivshaft?
Just to add on from Royce.... Once you get the driveshaft out, but quick and shove a clean rag up the hole or you will get gearbox oil everywhere. But as you are a wise Zed owner, you would have probably drained the oil as you were going to replace it with new oil once you've finshed......right???? If it is being a pain......take it off at the diff end and whack it with a rubber hammer...that might break the seal a bit and help it come out. My 2cents

why dont we see gt wings on zs?
That wing is for looks ONLY. Wouldn't have one on my Zed but I have a factory fitted rear spoiler/lip/thingydosiwhatits on my 71 240. I'm not too sure why they put it there but my guess it was also for looks. Maybe someone here can shed more light on the reasons why? As previously stated above, rear wings are only any good if you are pulling serious speeds and they MUST be in the airflow. Zed's are well known to have very bad drag characteristics especially at the rear. The best thing you can do is to remove as much air from getting under the car before you get a rear wing. Little point trying to get the rear to sit down at speed while the front lifts up...you'd get double the amount of front lightness. Anyway......my personal preference is not to have big wings.

Quick rebuild of wiper arm pivots...
I went one stage further and dismantled every joint and put the lot in a parts washers. Blew everything out with compressed air and resprayed the assembly with zinc and enamel. Repacked the lot with grease and put it all back together......just smooth smooth smooth now.....so it shoudl be after I spent the best part of 4 hours doing it. Those little circlips can be PITA to get off but they do come off. Once they come apart they stay out of shape, don't worry, they will go back on just find with the help of mister big pliers to re-shape/re-crimp them. My boots are also perrished beyond use, so I need to find an alternative. You can still but new ones. However....I should have paid more attention to the way the spring which is in the motor attachment arm works. Now I have put it all back together it seems that the spring has no use. Does anyone have any ideas of how it is designed to work?

One for the Aussies
Z Kid....you have no idea what I have had to endure. Not only did you lot beat us in the semi's but my wife is now over the moon as she is a POM. A double dose of torment for me....more time in the garage working on the Zed (not a bad thing). And try and think of soem Kiwi jokes that aren't related to sheep. I wouldn't go down that path too much cause if you would care to note that you have a fair amount more than we do. Would you like me to say Fosh und Chops or pin:finger: Keep it coming.....keep it coming...... :stupid:

One for the Aussies
As a New Zealander, I feel that we have the same love-hate relationship with the Aussies as like USA/Canada or England/Wales. Aussie likes to take the wizz out of us Kiwi's but in reality we are very similar. Population of NZ is just 4 million. No too sure what the population of Aussie is but there are a far few Kiwi's living over there much to the Aussie's delight. The trans-tasman (The Tasman sea seperating the two counties) rivalry goes back to the start of time. Even our governments are not imune to the odd snipe. An old NZ Prime Minister once said "New Zealanders leaving to live in Australia increase the intelligence of both countries" That kicked up the usual spat of abuse from our neighbours. But really they can't help it as they are a nation full of criminals anyway. In an America's Cup yacht race, the Kiwi yacht watched as the Aussie yacht broke in half and sank off the coast of San Diego. The next day in a Aussie news paper a full page ad read...What goes down faster that a Aussie yacht.......Steinlager ( a NZ beer). Very apt but a taking things a little to far (we laughed like hell). So it is time to dish out some giggles at our loving mates across the ditch. Why do Aussies drink beer out of saucers? Cause they don't have any cups! (England just beat them for the Rugby World Cup and we have the Bletislow and Tri-Nations Rugby Cups) What is long and hard and is challenging to Aussies........ Primary School. After having lived in England for 8 years, I've found that Kiwis and Aussies enjoy a great relationship, you just have to get away from the countries to notice it. So to all you Aussies.....hard luck about the game. As Greegan said, they only won it by 1 minute. But they have it and are a very well deserved World No. 1 (even if they play boring Rugby) I shall now run for cover as I can here the bombs coming.......arghhhhhROFL :cross-eye

Best way to clean used carbs
You can take off all the linkages and get them re-pasivated at a metal platers. All the catches and linkages under my bonnet were done by the PO and they look new. Get a few quotes to see how much maybe?

Best way to clean used carbs
I have found that CRC Carb-o-clean works well. As Chino 240Z says, use a toothbrush as well to get into those OMFG places. Sorry if I am being ignorant but I'm not sure if you get CRC products in the US.

Paint Colour
Each wheel was scrubbed with a scotchbrite pad then finished with some Brasso. They can up nice didn't they. My hands were a little worse for wear though. Took about 4 hours each. One a night while the better half was in England on holiday

I think i found the new car that i actually like!!
LOTUS = Lots Of Trouble, Usually Serious. BBC's "Top Gear" tv program did a segment on the Track Elise. Looks like a bundle of fun. I'm not going to retype what others have said above but you might be better off getting a car that YOU can work on. YOUR time is free to a point and starting out with a older car might be the better way to go. Plenty of good basic cars around for you to choose. Nothing wrong with basic cars, they let you make plenty of mistakes and the don't end up costing you too much as most of the parts are available in junk yards. Heh...most people here have what you have.....a need to buy the car you one day previously dreamed about. It took me 2 years to find my Zed so just take your time when selecting you fist car. My 1st was a 1972 Datsun 1200 Coupe. It was real easy to work on (as is the Zed and really any car from that period) and parts are everywhere...not so much now though. Good luck looking and DON'T RUSH.

Bugger!
Hard like Ivan, I did a similar thing with my mini cooper when in Auckland years ago. Took the battery out of the car and charged it. Put it back in and hooked it up wrong. Woof when the diodes in the generator...smoked it good. I hope it's just the ECU.

FOUND - window roller????
Cheers Steve, I'll check it out tomorrow. I remember seeing a clip still on the weather strip (almost clamped on the door skin...maybe this has something to do with it. Digital camera time. What's the best thing to de-gunging the door lock mechanism? This is the reason the handle broke in the first place. I'm thinking of drowning it in CRC overnight then let it dry before pouring in some liquid lithium grease. The grease should get to most places in there.
