70's pinstripes and other cool details...
Ultra Type 24 directionals. Part number 24-4748R and 4748L. A remarkably so-so wheel, quality wise. And I never cared for the looks of them either, although if I was selling to you I'd have told you they were great!

14" tires
Maybe so, I'm not going to change it until I drive it. But for the way I intend to drive my car (some commuting and some grand touring) I may want the taller gearing later. No big deal, if I want a 3.36 later there's lots of them available.

14" tires
My car has 205/60-14s on it now (just generic cheapies, nothing good). My problem is that once I get the four speed in it with the auto rear axle ratio, I'm probably going to want a taller tire than 205/60-14 for highway cruising. I'd want to go with 225/60-14, but the choices aren't good. Since I need new wheels anyway, I'll probably try to go 15" instead.

Buying used Weber DGVs
Not DCOE (side draft), so I assume they must be the down draft 2 bbl (twin choke) DGVs.

intakes--is there a difference?
I've read that too, but again without proof. And some of the places I read that admit they even they can't confirm it. When I got my carbs, I decided that any of them would do. My carbs came with E88s. And even if the thing does flow better, 10 HP sounds like a lot to me.

Seats - RX7, Miata, etc.
The strap kit is meant as a replacement for the straps that Datsun used instead of springs in the early 240Z's. The seats in my '71 have no springs, only the straps (which are rotten, I will replace them soon). I don't think the straps will add any support to the later seats with springs, assuming they can be installed on later seats at all.

Daves Possible Parking light FIX
Some really good stuff at Eagleday. But the connectors pictured don't look like the right thing to me, wrong type of indexing grooves.

Junk yard (possible but not very likely), eBay, or one of the numerous Z-car used parts specialists. I'd link to a few, but I'm at work and don't have all the URLs here.

How Close Are Our VIN #'s
Oops! Maybe my sig isn't clear. The only '83 I have is the F54 block and P79 head in my '71. I'll have to re-word that.Edit: I changed my sig, should be more clear now.

How Close Are Our VIN #'s
So my car and Red-Eye's '71 are close - 16 cars. http://classiczcars.com/forums/showpost.php?p=156406&postcount=8

Daves Possible Parking light FIX
Looking at (and understanding) what Dave has proposed, there certainly would be, but it would be far more expensive, and require several of the connectors which I have found are becoming difficult to acquire.

Straw poll: 240Z to ZX alternator adapter
Yup, I sure do. I haven't quite given up yet...

Straw poll: 240Z to ZX alternator adapter
Well folks, I'm almost ready to throw in the towel on this. The headaches involved in getting the required connector and terminals look to make this more hassle than it's worth. I still haven't ruled it out totally yet, but I'm getting close to that point. For those of you who are interested, I'm still looking, but if it doesn't pan out, I'm sorry.

For you Seattle Seahawk fans...........
Oh my! I missed the BIN price when I first looked. What do people up there smoke?

14" tires
What size 14" are you running? That seems a bit excessive, unless you have a rather odd size.

Lionel Ritchie's First Car
Ditto, except we still have them all. Dad (in his 70's now) has all his old R&Ts from the mid 50's until he stopped getting it in the mid 90's. My collection started when I left home around '76 and is still growing today. Great fun paging through a 30 year old car magazine. And some of the ads are the best!

lookin at a Z
Very true! I expect to spend more than that before my car is done. Of course, I enjoy the restoration process itself, so I wouldn't want to buy a finished product myself.

Debate! "Colour of the Z"
When my wife and I decided that my next project car would be a 240Z, we discussed color. We decided we would buy whatever was available, but our preferred colors were orange first, and yellow second. Baby-poo gold was third. (We ended up with 919 yellow.) Sporty cars of the seventies were frequently yellow or orange. Porsche 914 for example?

lookin at a Z
Looks like dual Webers, not the original SUs. Much harder to tune properly than SUs. But fairly reliable once they are tuned properly. (Of course, so are the SUs.) Also looks like it still has a ballast resistor, so it's probably still got the points ignition. That's probably a more likely reason for the hard start.

Carb manifold gasket for P79 head
I don't think it is a square port in the pic, but it's hard to say for sure. When I did the swap I used a generic round port gasket from a local parts house. It was listed as fitting all non-turbo L28s from '77-83. Worked (and still works) fine.

Well it took me 5 years .....
You know, those half-bumpers up front look pretty good, as does the whole car. It's exactly not the way I'd have done it, but that's just fine. That's why we all have our own cars. Anyway, very nice job!

keyed up
Mine are also one for ignition, and one for everything else. In addition, the key code sticker is still on the inside of my glovebox door, and it seems to confirm that as well (as best I can read it).I'm kind of fussy about my keys also, and if my car were closer to complete, I'm sure that I would pay a sizeable amout for proper original key blanks. Unfortunately there are SO MANY things right now that I need far worse than nice keys. By the time I'm ready for them, who knows how much I'll have to pay?

Favorite coil for ZX ignition
Yeah, no ballast on mine either. I'll probably look into a Bosch, MSD or similar coil designed to run at 12 volts. Thanks for the input, folks!

Favorite coil for ZX ignition
The ZX coil is larger than the 240Z coil?? Then I wonder what it is that I have in mine? The bracket in mine appears to be the original one, but the coil is a smaller diameter. Whoever installed it wedged some chunks of heater hose in the bracket with the coil to try to hold it in place. I had assumed that it was the ZX coil (along with everything else ZX under the hood) and that was why it didn't fit right.Obviously I do need a new coil.
