Buying new carbs, Ztherapry or....
Round-tops are probably the best choice for your engine. As for ZT vs. what you have now, chances are that the carbs you bought have worn throttle shafts and/or bushings that leak unmetered air into the intake tract. While you may -- with a lot of fiddling -- get them to run semi-acceptably, ZT carbs will work like new. Which was really quite good.

NGK spark plug wires
I'm not aware of any sources, Dan. My car still had its originals when I bought it, otherwise I'd be looking for alternatives too.

Miata seats came in some tan colors too.

NGK spark plug wires
Not quite correct for a 240Z, but closer than bright blue! (My stock wires have black or dark gray boots, can't remember which.)

NGK spark plug wires
Yup, mine are blue, as pictured earlier in this thread. Don't know if gray ones are still available, I've not seen any.For shows, I've been known to re-install my black 1971-date-coded wires....

NGK wires are blue, too.

1975 280Z Radiator Question
These days with the environmental concerns about working with solder that contains lead, it is often cheaper to buy a new aftermarket 3 row core radiator than it is to re-core your existing unit.

Best source to shop for my Z
Yup, I've done it. Look in the Tech Articles for the write-up I did on this a while back.

Brake Master Cylinder Questions
There's another possibility, considering that this is a rebuilt unit. I've seen a few rebuilts where the rebuilder forgot to re-install the cone-shaped flare seats in the ports. If that's the case, it doesn't matter how tight you get the fittings, it won't seal. As for cross-threading, you are (unfortunately) much more likely to damage the threads on the line nuts, not the threads in the cylinder.

emissions sticker for 1972...
Since the 8801 has specs for an exhaust gas analyzer, there may be a Nissan TSB that gives the date of the change. Maybe some one who has a library of the bulletins could look that up for you?

Will 280ZX Wheels fit ?
I'm also running 195/70-14s on 6" wheels on my 240Z. That is the stock size on 280Zs, and is the same height as the stock 240Z size of 175-14 but about 3/4" wider. It's a good all around size for moderate use.

Will 280ZX Wheels fit ?
For 14" tires with stock diameter, there are three sizes to consider - 195/70-14 (common, but not a lot of performance rubber), 205/65-14 (rare size), and 225/60-14 (not common any more, some performance tires may still be available). A fairly popular 14" size for Zs these days is 215/60-14. That's a little shorter than stock, but not a lot. A good width for the 6" wheels you are looking at, with a bit more selection than the 205/65 or 225/60 sizes.

Need some advice about a 78 280z that has been sitting for 5 years
I think you need to ask yourself what you want and need to do with this car, and we still haven't heard about rust. On the one hand, $1200 for a restorable Z that has minimal rust is probably a good deal. But I think at this point you need to acknowledge that it might take considerably more than you are thinking about to get the car running and back on the road. We know it needs brake work, and the engine, drivetrain and running gear are a total unknown. Plus the emissions ramifications. I don't think $1200 is too much to pay for any S30 that is straight and mostly un-rusted. But are you looking for a car that needs as much as this car might? What's your time frame?

Agreed. NGK plugs and wires here, too. Will, I think you meant BPR6ES-11, for the wide gap plugs for electronic ignition.

Golden Gardens 08' Seattle WA. Who's Going?
Well, the parts going to many willing recipients is very true. Although I'm beginning to run out of good stuff. The two biggest value parts left are a nice E31 head and a quite nice gas tank. I plan on posting those in the classifieds very soon.

speedometer out of whack
If all the parts are truly stock (rear end and speedo gear), then the spring inside your speedometer itself must be weak. Because the tire size you are running is basically stock height as well. I'm betting that the odometer is pretty accurate. There's only a couple of options here. One would be to change the speedo gear to compensate, but that will throw off the odometer. The other is to repair or replace the speedometer itself.

Oooh. That would be Barrett. I bought the yellow car from him somewhere up that way. I think he really wanted to see the car fixed, even though he hadn't owned it very long. He's probably not very happy with me right about now...:disappoin

Splash Pan for 240Z (or 260Z, or 280Z)
So considering how few cars still have these, has it been determined that all of them did in fact come with them?

Another tranny swap question.
Actually, the key issue is that the throw-out bearing collar and the pressure plate must match. The rest is not as important. So buy a pressure plate for the same year as the car that the t.o. collar came from.

Man, I love Ken's yellow '71! I still wish mine was yellow -- but not quite enough to change it's color.

Key codes
Geezer, that's not what the 3rd of the three scans you posted above says. It says, "Key numbers are no longer entered on car invoices, but are listed on a label on the glove box lid."

Another tranny swap question.
Doh! Very true, Stephen. I knew the disk was a larger diameter, but also know better than to assume the flywheel itself was larger too.
