920 Gold
Bad news, Rich. That is not the original tire. The originals on the early cars were Bridgestones, but they were 175SR14, not 175/70-14s. That is a much later size, and the SF-408 model (Super-Filler) confirms that. The early cars came with "Super Speed Radial 20". I borrowed these pictures from an earlier thread.

Grassroots Motorsports 240Z Project Car for sale
I saw $12,000 even. Looks like a heck of a deal to me, accepting that I've not seen the car in person.

Hagerty and 240's
But on the other hand, my car IS modified. But I have tried very hard to make certain that all visible mods are period correct. I want the car to look like a typical enthusiast's 240Z as they were owned and driven in the '70s. So mine won't win any stock class awards either.

Hagerty and 240's
I hear ya, Rich. Had I bought a 240Z back in the '70s as a teenager, first thing I'd have done would have been to rip off all the smog gear. Did it to every car I owned. Today, I'll be protecting my car's smog gear at all cost. Cars are the same, I guess I'm the one that changed...

wheel rubbing
That's why I don't buy tires mail-order. Sure, after 25 years selling tires, I feel that I still know enough to be able to make the right decisions when selecting tires. But if I should screw up, buying from a local dealer generally gives some alternatives. Local installer isn't going to give much sympathy if you buy your tires somewhere else and then complain that they rub...

Good source of high quality copper wire
I've used this outfit for connectors, but they don't sell wire. http://www.vintageconnections.com/ Seems like there is another source that sells wire in all the normal colors, even with the tracer stripes. Can't find it right off hand, but it'll come to me eventually. (Probably long after someone else has found it!)

I love that car. If I didn't already have a really nice driver 240Z, I'd be all over that one.

IIRC, the plugs need to be BSP thread (British Standard Pipe). But in my experience on these, if the first fitting you try doesn't break loose fairly easily, you may as well stop there and not waste any time on it. If they are rusted, no amount of PB Blaster or whatever will get them out. I'll echo the comment above - you'll probably either want to live with it as is, or swap to a header. If either of the manifold studs at the ends of the exhaust manifold are broken or bent, definitely don't waste your time and plan for a header, as that is an indication that the manifold has warped.

Mark, the emission controls on a '71 240Z are simple, with few parts, and really very little effect on how the car runs. Looking at the pictures of yours, it has already been de-smogged. On your car the smog pump and associated plumbing has already been removed, and the air injection on the exhaust manifold has been capped. The vacuum ports on the manifold balance tube have been capped off where the anti-backfire valve (for the air injection) and throttle opener have been removed. Generally, no carb adjustments are necessary, or even desirable. So I'd say it's done, and not to worry about it. Nothing additional is needed. You could remove the air injection rail from the exhaust manifold and plug the holes for appearance sake, but it doesn't hurt anything where it's at, and chances are that it'll be rusted in place and not easily removable anyway.

I guess I can pull that out, if people don't like it. On the other hand, I just sold more parts to another new buyer - yet another Z for the list!

Need pics of a stock 240Z downpipe
Since that post in April, I talked about a two muffler Magnaflow system with a local shop, but then found a NOS Monza rear section similar to your Ansa, which I installed on my existing system. The Monza addition looks and sounds good enough to allow me more time to select or build a final solution. I've got some ideas brewing on that as well, but I'm not going to get into that until I get the S30 Bolder Tint project wrapped up. Realistically, that probably won't happen until after the first of the year.

71 Z parts car on Ebay........
All I need is the pair of advance weight return springs, so I really don't want to trash a good dizzy for that. I'll keep waiting for a worn out one, if this car doesn't have one.

Trying to identify original 240Z keys?
For a '73 all locks should use the same key.

Trying to identify original 240Z keys?
Haven't seen them in person, but I believe they are repros made in Thailand or somewhere close.

Trying to identify original 240Z keys?
Nope, those are only correct through 12/70 or so.
