240z shell
Hi guys. Ive had my 72 240z for about a month now and ive really gotten into the car. The deeper i get in, the more work i have to do... its never ending! Since i started taking apart the front end i realized i need new rocker pannels, inner wheel wells, front frame rails, fire wall needs to be patched, battertray area is toast, floor pans are gone, floor supports are gone, and its even starting to get into the rear... the spare tire compartment is rotting. I honestly dont have the money to repair all these so i was wondering if anyone had a shellfor a 240z. Im located in massachusetts and i am willing to travel kind of far to pick one up. I read a previous thread and there is one in arizona but thats just to fasr =(. Im kinda stuck at this point and i KNOW i dont have the money to repair the body i have now... its just to far gone. Hopefully someone could help me out =)

Welders
I am purchasing a welder and was wondering what would be best for body work such as floor pannels, rockerpanels and frame rails. Would it be best for me to get a wire feed welder or an arc welder ? and what would be the lowest amperage i could go?

Welding
Thank you all for your responses. MY problem is that i dont have enough money to buy the floor panels and pay a welder to do it all.. Im not made of money, and im not full of experience in the welding industry either. If u say its as hard as it is i better have a professional do it, but since i dont know to much about it i dont want to get ripped off. Anyways i plan on doin future welds and stuff like that but ill hold off and buy a nice welder later after i have learned more about it.

Welding
Quick question for all of u out there... Im ordering a floor board kit for my 1972 datsun 240z. I am new to welding and etc. I was wondering what would be the smallest welder i could buy, welding materials i would need, and the process of welding. Seen it done many times before and i would like to do this job myself.

Wont rev past 2000
ok, well swappin the old condenser back on didnt do anything, and its still not reving past 2000. Any suggestions? im lost now =(

Wont rev past 2000
nah the car doesnt dim or anything like that. i think it must have sumthin to do with the timing. I checked the valves and they are mint. I should probably swap the old condesner back in. By the way the new condenser is smaller than my old one, could that be a problem or does it not really matter? Thanks for your responses i hope we figure this problem out.

Wont rev past 2000
Hi, i currently own a 1972 datsun 240z with 55k original miles. Restoration is in progress and moving fast, however i just ran into a problem. The car will not rev past 2000 rpms, and when it reaches 2k it sputters and runs terribly. I had just replaced the condenser and thought that i may have swapped the distributor rotar 180* off but i didnt. Any suggestions? it ran fine with the previous condenser

Distributor issues
Hi, i just did some work on my 1972 datsun 240z. This "work" was replacing the condenser. Everything was going well until i dropped a nut inside the distributor and i had to take everything apart. I put everything back together, regapped the points and turned it over only to find i had no spark =( perhaps i missed something? i checked it twice then three times and even swapped the old condenser back on ( which sparked before i did all this) and still no spark. Maybe someone could help me... maybe not, but im sure with some time i can figure out what i did wrong. probably something dumb.

I cant wait till its done
congrats dude. yah i replaced pretty much the whole ignition (distributor cap, rotor, points, condenser, coil, etc) on my datsun the first 2 days i got it. This is my first Z ever to restore and its such and easy car to work on i love it. I managed to get the carbs balanced and all that good stuff but it runs a little choppy, possibly because it needs some exhaust work. Overall the car isnt as bad as i thought it would be. In as in condition if i fixed the exhaust and E-brake it would pass inspection, but i think il wait on that =P. I took it for a quick drive around my neighborhood, and damn, these cars are quick. Have fun restoring ur Z's and ill be posting periodically on this site, its been my best source yet.

I cant wait till its done
I just purchased a 1972 datsun 240z with 50k original miles no more than one week ago. When i purchased the car nothing worked... Hell it wouldnt even turn over. From then till now i managed to get it running, starting, stopping and even most of the lights working! Since this is a New England car it will not be an easy resto due to all the rust. The body seems to be in decent shape, however the floor boards dont hold more than 1 pound. Right now the interior is out of the car with the exception of the driver seat, dash and shifter ( all u need to move it). Since i did get it running and installed alot of new ignition parts i now have to tackle the body. Once the body is done and ready to be painted i plan to get the engine running a bit smoother. Its a big project but for some reason it seems to be moving very fast. I plan to get photos as soon as possible, but for now i just figured i would post something on my new prized posession

restoration help
I beleive its a stock manifold. i purchased the car 1 week ago and got it from not even turning over to starting, moving, stopping and 99% of the lights to work. The car may have an exhaust manifold from a 280 but i kinda doubt it because it seems to be all original and only has 55k orig. miles on it. Anyways ill plug it like you said. Another question of mine is are there different models of a 240z? because ive noticed some have different stock mirrors, rims, and a rear rail system off the rear bumper. I was told there was a rally edition or something of that sort? but it could be false information. Anyways im new to the 240z, but im catching on quick. Thanks for all the responses.. keep em comin i really appreciate it.
