Bought # 4858
"So honey , I bought another Z today" instant response ," you've got to be fu@£NIH kidding me " anyone else have this conversation-lol Anyway, didn't see this one coming but it's landed in my lap. # 4858 , 5/70 build date. Still not even to my house yet and I've spent a total of 15 minutes looking at it. Too many unknowns to answer anything specific , but it's definetly fixable . Actually in pretty decent shape- respective of its age. Update this when I get it home .

Tracking Down The Clunk - Worn Lower Diff Mount?
Know anyone with a 4 post lift. Drive it up on there and chock everything and put a load on the driveline, or just rock it in gear with someone watching

Tracking Down The Clunk - Worn Lower Diff Mount?
I did that set up and thought it worked out pretty well, but I had driveline vibration that I couldn't figure out and thought it was the cause since it lowers the pinion . i went back to the mount sandwich - Techno mount snubber and stock mount. make sure no twisting motion allows those bolt heads to contact the crossmember since they are so close . I now have just learned to live with the seldom clunk I get. It seems the harder I drive the car the less clunk I get.

Those running clear Dorman filters to their SUs
I've got three extra fuel pumps and I would send you one for shipping costs. i have a RX7 pump and an extra and a Carter . I replaced pumps thinking that was the problem, but it was the freaking filter . Now I'm EFI , so ....

Those running clear Dorman filters to their SUs
It's not about them deteriorating, it was about them not staying assembled inside. When the filter cartridge comes loose ( if it's the replacement type) , it blocks the outgoing fuel. Mine was even intermittent which was really frustrating . I would think Dorman is the same as Mr Gasket- but I could be way wrong. Or maybe I had the only one that came loose- but the fact that it can happen vs a throw away plastic one is why I say get rid of it. Just wanted to make sure you were aware of this possibility

Get rid of that filter - they are junk. The filter assembly inside comes loose and blocks fuel flow. You won't suspect it because you'll see fuel in the filter . Take it off and see if it is coming apart inside

Aftermarket ECU Megasquirt Install
Is was more about avoiding a POSSIBLE problem then fixing one. Improperly fitted caps could lead to dribbling fuel collected in the caps that could lead to a bad idle and other issues.

Aftermarket ECU Megasquirt Install
Well I took Richards advice and put the proper pintle caps on the injectors. I did find out that the injectors I am using have a 18 degree spray pattern . Not sure how that compares to stock. All I know is that this engine runs as good as it ever has- despite finding a valve nick on #1 bore , despite dropping the cam with towers attached from 4 feet in the air. Despite replacing a cam tower that was nicked on its bearing surface from the drop. Despite shaving another 20 thou and not checking clearances despite guessing cam timing and throwing the cam in 6 degrees advanced. and the list goes on thankyou L gods

Aftermarket ECU Megasquirt Install
I guess I should have stated that the aggression part of the timing would be more of how fast I was at total . These are a stock plug number for the zx motor. Don't remember number off hand. And yes, the sooty stuff was mostly from the early, high fuel req calculation . Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile

Agreed Leon, but the single TB is better for me to cut my teeth on OER's would look great though. Decided to do a quick valve lash check after a few miles to see if anything settled and pulled the plugs for a quick look also. Pretty damn happy with what I see , though it's lean more than I like. Took a shot at the 'auto tune' option (VE analyzer ) that MEGASQUIRT offers with their Tuner Studio and it's pretty cool tech stuff. Basically it makes adjustments while you drive the car around and saves them or updates immediately - your choice. Now I'm a bit rich , but maybe a good time to bump up timing. Lots to learn

Aftermarket ECU Megasquirt Install
So as you might have figured out I am kind of STOKED about this. This happened pretty smoothly all things considered. I committed myself after selling the Mikunis, which forced me to make this happen or not be able to drive my car this season. I also had major home improvement projects going on , including building a Z shop behind my house. The ignition side of this install I have been using for a year or so and it's been very stable and tunable. This fuel part included a lot more changes because of fuel pressure requirements needed converting from my carbed car. So far no leaks and very quiet fuel pump has worked great. The beauty of this is the options for tuning you can never achieve with carbs. I drive my car everyday and every chance I get - so being able to get in and turn the key to a well running sports car to run to the store or a cruise is awesome. I have lost nothing in regards to the driving experience compared to when it was carbed with the Mikunis. I never had the induction noise experience since I ran a CAI, not sure if I would have heard it with my exhaust anyway, so nothing lost there. Admittling the view under the hood is not as classic or pretty as the triples, but OER makes FI triples!!! I do miss the punch of the accel pumps of the triples, but I'll get this dialed the same eventually. When I get to the point where I'm feeling confident on tuning I will take her to the dyno. Since I bumped CR, I hope to see a little gain . Right now with very little tuning and conservative timing it already feels as strong as before . I want to thank Richard- chicken man- for helping me out getting a baseline tune going on this. As usual , the Datsunguys are a class act . These big projects can get discouraging and frustrating , but hearing it light off for the first time after all the work makes it worth while. Richard got on line with me and I was tuning at 11pm that night in the garage. I was in the dog house after that with the Mrs. since I stunk up the house with exhaust fumes , but I cooked dinner the next night and all was good. The next morning after Richard put a tune on my car I drove it on its maiden voyage to C&C . It drove pretty damn well too! No looking back to carbs again- for my car anyway Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile

2 4 0 Z Uh Oh Project
That tank probably won't fit -it's to wide. With your skills you could easily fix any tank. I went with a CJ5 tank but I wanted a centered tank to run dual exhausts-AND I wanted to be able to fill from the original door.
