Ok im doing a l28 swap in my 260z. i found a 81zx non turbo at a junkyard. the guy wants 600 for me to take home and take what i want out of it. i want to get the engine, tranney, diff. do u think this is worth the 600. i dont know if the engine starts but he said it does.(i dont know if that 100% true) since im going to carb i dont need all the wireing. i played with the tranney and it moved through all the gears nicely. im not going to through the engine as soon as i get i will clean it up and some mods to it. i think i might rebuild the engine while its out. i just want some input. they have a 280z also that i want to get the moustache bar. i know the non turbo diff has a 3.90 gear. (does the zx have a moustache bar i can use or would be better with the 280?)i looked at the rims and they where the iron ones. i dont know if care for to much for these. any input on this situation. does this sound like a good deal i would not mine trying to get him lower its just i want to see if this is worth 600. i guess i could pull parts off and just sell what i dont want. should i get the pumps, clutch cylinder...etc just throwing some ideas out. i know those who say to go turbo for this and that. i want to keep the n/a going. im not in no hurry to get the engine in because i want to do things right. i plan to keep/store my l26 engine because its the matching number one but it has 240z carbs with the 260z manifold. so i think i will have a nice setup for the f54. i know their is a big thread on heads. i read alot from here,hybrid and zcar. i came to a conclusion that if i use my e88 head and use the springs and valve from the p79 would be nice. of course im going to do the port and polish. srry if i drag this on i really just wanted to see if this was a good deal on parts to go with or dont even bother with the deal. im still keeping my eyes open for other things just z's are hard to come by.

    This is not saying go out and buy it. Ill try to get some pics up soon. If you already know or didn't i had some rust (cough cough ) on my floors(holes). I took the advice of the smart ones and replaced them. well I did not really replace the floors just did some patching which is not all that hard if u practice with a welder.(which i had to do) over all i was happy with it. i wanted to make sure that the floors say as good as they can for years to come. so what i did i ordered the por15 floor pan kit. i did all the prep and i applied the fabric with the por15 paint. one thing about this paint is that its thick. unfortanly i got some on my hand right now and it takes some scrubing to come off. yes iv tried the paint thinner and gas it just this stuff likes to stick to you. :stupid: . i have already had this stuff on me and it take about 4-5 days to come off. since i had some por15 paint left i went ahead and did the whole inside.(spare tire,shock tower...etc). Over all im very impress with this stuff. You do get your money worth if you do the prep work right. So those who question about the por15 way it worked for me and im happy. Im still in the process of a strip down on my car so im getting rid of all cancer on her.

  17. thanks for the info. i will keep looking over my car. i will prob go with what yall say just sand/wet-sand it off. this is a project car so i guess their is no real rush which is a good thing. its just i want to work on my car non stop. its that kinda a relationship Well i got a sander and i started on the hood to see how it would be. I am having fun almost as much as learning to mig weld... :laugh: I took my time and it made the black alot darker u can say. i guess it brought out the better part of the black out. Still sanding to get to that GREEN. could not find the 400 grit so i have alot of 220 grit. not to complain but to get a idea do i keep doing the 220 till it get where? it kinda just making it very smooth which is really cool but its not really taken paint off. unless i just keep at for sometime. yea im new to this so im reading and learning.
  18. i see u upgraded those clamps to modern ones. did the 30+ year old clamps give u hell :stupid: . i will prob do the same set up like u have with some thinking here and their. thank god u dont have like a copyright on that stuff .
  19. where and how would u dispose of teh chemical. some of the black paint is flaking off. i have my car in a barn and i think the winter is dead for the south so i think im ok with the weather right now to do it. another question for the engine buffs. i want to get my engine out and do the engine bay. i just want to know how yall rember where all teh wires are and this and that. i have been studying the engine bay and i think the owner did some riggin on it. since im wanna go with that dark green im thinking of doing the engine bay black or should i do it the same color as the car? i plan on doing a front air kit, rear glass protector(i forgot name its 4 o'clock in the morning) and the tail light part black. kinda give it a mix feeling. how about inside teh car i already have gutted out but the guage console. should i take that out. i dont plan on painting the inside just puting down some por15 on the new floors im getting in.i want to do teh door jams a color but i dont know if i should do them green or black. they are a mix between black and leaf green right now kinda funny. should i paint the inside of the hatch black or green? i want to take all the doors and rear hatch off to clean them up. just cause im a perfectionist person (its becoming a hobby)when im doing this stuff should i take the glass off and the rubber. for xmas i got the whole rubber package for teh car. its a huge arse box full of rubers..... i have been doing searching on this and hybrid and of course google. i could sand parts that needed sanding but i want to do less damage to the body. as far as bondo goes i hope their is non on it :)like yall say if you going to do it might as well do it right.

Ok first my car orginal color is that leaf green #302 not a fan of the color. but the owner put a black over it. the thing about this black is that it goes all over your hands when u rub on it. im thinking of going to #907 Dark Green(its a sexy color) i read that your orginal paint is a good primer because it is stuck to the metal. if this is true how could i get the black color off with out taken off the leaf green. im thinking with going over a lighter color with a dark color might do better or am i just fooling myself? the black paint was definantely half arse. or just do the chemical stripper and go to metal?
  21. o i like that idea of the 90 degree been u inspired me to do that save me alot of screaming at the car. so you all that stuff at the marine shop?
