i know EXACTLY what you're going through, as i had the same ones. what i did was take a dremel to the bushing to remove approx 1/8" (at an angle, so it kind of curved around) off of each side of the bushing and took vice grips and squeezed the brackets together just enough so that i could get the bolts in. took less than 20 minutes and they fit wonderfully now

i recommend getting a canopy from pepboys or such. less that $100 and you can put tarps over the openings. plus that will look hideous for those pesky neighbors

n42 = bigger valves e88 = slightly higher compression IMO n42 is better

did something similar in my e30 bimmer.. saw a button on the dash, was like "what is this?" pushed it, didn't do anything. "huh." later that day, i try to roll down the pass window. won't go down. so i'm trippin, thinking i have to troubleshoot a dreaded electrical problem. look up on ebay on the fuses and what not, and see mention of a window lock button... on the dash

Chevy 250 or 400 for my 78?
what year is the 400 from (i'm assuming it's not '59)? since you're in CA, you can get in mucho trouble if they find you swapped in an older motor.

just for the record, i don't condone what any parties did during WWII, and i am removing myself from that conversation as i don't feel that this is the proper forum to discuss anything politically motivated. anyway, it DOES really suck that people think that keying a car is a good solution to anything. it really pisses me off to think that people would do it to such a classic car in such nice shape.

i do see your point of view, and without getting too political, i don't think that the japanese internment camps were along the lines of human rights. really, a war is a war, but comparing what the japanese did to the genocide of nazi germany is quite a bit extreme, as i'm sure you realize. but i digress.

what 5 speed is easy and cheap?
^dogleg refers to the fact that first gear is over and down, with reverse being above it anyway, 280ZX tranny is where it's at. to use with the stock 3.36 rear gears, get a '79 ZX tranny. there's also folks modding 240sx trannies to use with the Z bellhousing. requires a bit of work and some machining to get it to fit, though. but they're reliable, cheap, and there's plenty
