What wheels are these?
I have a set of dealer installed Appliance Slotted wheels and a set of dealer installed Anson Sprint wheels and there are noticable differences in the shape of the "slots" and other aspects of the wheels. I have no way of knowing for certain, but I think it's likely that different branded wheels were "produced" in one (contracted) foundry in Gardena, to similar (but slightly different) designs provided by the various wheel companies.

Barret Jackson BS
Geez, I would have expected Vintage Motorsport AND Barrett-Jackson to know the difference between a Z and a ZX.

De-varnish the valve cover?
after living in the wonderful, clean, and protected Ohio environment all these years you probably already have cancer.

Can you get Build Sheets?
Does anyone REALLY think dealers keep stuff like that for 30 years? If they did, do you REALLY think they'd be willing to expend the time and effort to rummage through all of it to find something for someone who ISN"T buying something? Does anyone even know if the "factory" (I just love that word!) even provided a "build sheet"? Remeber, Nissan isn't Chevrolet or Ford. They MAY () have done business in a different way.

Can you get Build Sheets?
They can hardly be bothered to stock parts for us any longer. Doubt we'd get much cooperation from them.

What wheels are these?
Are those WIRE wheels? It's really hard to tell from the distance and angle of that picture. To my eyes, they look like one of the versions of dealer installed MAG (Aluminum) wheels, which would not be chrome nor need rechroming. In any event, they are not a "factory" wheel and thus it's questionable if they belong on a "restoration".

Carbon parts (post suggestions)
Possibly related to repairability. i.e. not having to replace the whole thing if only one corner of the car gets damaged.

SURE! As Darrell Waltrip would say, "What's Not to Like?"

De-varnish the valve cover?
I think it was a case of the car having been worked on and someone didn't tighten the bolt properly. I don't really remember the details. If yours was just crusty bits that "appeared" to be scratches, but when you cleaned it up there were no (NONE) scratches, I think Inf has the answer. I have noticed similar markings on valve covers of mine, but all they were was crusty bits in a pattern on the valve cover (i.e. NO actual scratches upon further examination). Just to be safe, put a torque wrench on it and confirm that the bolt is tight. Once it's tight it should stay there. AFAIK, there is no periodic tightening necessary. At least I've never done it.

De-varnish the valve cover?
I think Inf is on the right track here, but.........It is not unheard of for the sprocket to contact the Valve Cover. Usually the cause is the bolt into the camshaft backing out. One of our members had that happen a couple of years ago. Fairly catastrophic as I recall.

MSA Control arm bushings
I am assuming that you are referring to the FRONT suspension bushings, right? Have you got the suspension disassembled yet? I bought my bushings from MSA (packaging didn't specify the brand) and the only bushings that required the OEM "outer sleeves" to remain in the car was the Moustache Bar (rear Diff mount). Front Suspension bushings and Rear Suspension (outer bushings) all required the sleeves to be removed.

I have it on good authority that this is Gary's favorite country song: mms://tonwm.fplive.net/ton/music/300k/u_e_notorious_itshard300.asf ("The Notorious Cherrybombs" is the band)

Steering Wheel Resto
The thread linked below contains info and links that should answer this question definitively. There is a lot of misinformation out there, but when the Chief Designer for the S30 provides the answer it should be accepted as the REAL answer. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15600&highlight=Steering+Plastic+Wood See posts # 4, #12, and #14 in particular

Obviously Not "1st Year"
ALL of this is quite true, however the absence of a VIN in his (or any) car sale auction is suspicious (but NOT necessarily MALicious) to me. Always has been, always will be. Maybe it's just me but I expect that to be divulged prior to the sale of any car. Currently the auction indicates "rare factory authorized a/c" and claims mileage to be "100". Pic of the Right Rear Quarter Panel shows considerable body rot that he doesn't mention in the description. Oh BTW, as a point of reference; ZHome.com indicates that the first 240Z's with Auto trans were "produced" in 08/70 and last of the Series 1 body style was "produced" in 01/71 Z POLICE, what do you think about this car?
